To: Michael Shellenberger Founder - President, Environmental Progress Candidate for Governor of California Berkeley, California June 6, 2018 Cc: Select leading nuclear power advocates Dear Michael, Congratulations on your decision to run for Governor of California based on many of your themes and principles described at Environmental Progress. In my opinion, you are one of the top qualified younger persons to lead California and the United States. Qualified based on concern for history and the world today, high principles and willingness to work with and lead people on many topics relating to working for a better world. Another highly qualified leader for that kind of position is Dr. Kelvin Kemm, Chairman of South African Nuclear Energy Corporation, NECSA. In the primary election for Governor of California you came in 10th place with 0.3 or 0.4% of the vote. In my opinion, this was in part because of focusing on the topic of catastrophic anthropogenic global warming, CAGW, per Dr. James Hansen and others. In my opinion, you could have come in 1st or 2nd place and qualified for the main election in November, 2018. You and Kelvin Kemm are on the opposite sides of the topic of CAGW. California could stop using fossil fuels altogether and it still wouldn't make much difference for manmade climate change or man-made climate disruption as John Holdren now calls it. Michael Shellenberger (USA) and Kelvin Kemm (South Africa) should work together for nuclear power and a better world. Dr. James Hansen should desist with CAGW and work for a better world in other regards. Dr. John Holdren should put his talents to work for pressing problems, besides Catastrophic Anthropogenic Climate Disruption. He should stop claiming that he can Reverse Climate Change. All people working for nuclear power to should follow Theodore Rockwell's advice: "Nuclear power can be a significant help to address problems from of all causes of climate change that will impact the well being of mankind, the environment and wildlife." Ted Rockwell was listed about forty years ago in the World Who's Who in Science from Antiquity to the Present. It was not his most important life time accomplishment. Most likely, nobody on distribution for this letter even earned this recognition. We should get on with the business of promoting global understanding of the importance of nuclear power and stop discussions linking nuclear power with carbon dioxide from fossil fuels. CO2 is a key molecule for life. At 300 ppm atmospheric concentration, it is essential for life, At 400 to 800 ppm, it is not going to cause the end of life as we know it. Best wishes to all, John A. Shanahan Denver, Colorado, USA
