BASIC INSTINCTS A FRESHNESS FOUND IN ITERATIONS OF ETERNAL, UNIVERSAL GARMENTS
www.miumiu.com

A reaction to and reflection of reality, an economy, a freshness found in iterations of eternal, universal garments. The Spring/Summer 2022 Miu Miu collection by Miuccia Prada is an exercise in referencing and researching reality, using the existing to create the new.

The foundations are classic - trousers, sweaters, shirts, blazers, suits and sheath dresses, absolute archetypes of everyday dress. A new balance of proportion is found through cutting into piecesretaining the believable character of each, yet altering their relationship with the body. Trousers are cut into abbreviated skirts, sweaters and shirts carved out to reveal the body. Edges are left raw, elements of construction exposed in commemoration of the spontaneity of these actions. The notion of reworking existent pieces extends to a collaboration with New Balance - the 574 sneaker is re-proposed in white, khaki or blue denim, with raw-cut edges.

Embroideries reflect the decoration of night-time attire, embellishing dresses and suits. Everyday alongside every night, the aesthetic language of day and evening dress each serve a purpose and have a meaning within life. An antidote to meaningless novelty, the collection examines fundamental realities of dress, the needs and wants of people from their clothes. It is an amplification of actuality - a focus on reality.

Alongside reality, fantasy: the physical and virtual spaces of the Miu Miu show are punctuated with works by the artist Meriem Bennani,

whose body of work explores intimate relationships mediated through the camera. Here, that idea is echoed and overlapped with another interrelation, of women and fashion. Conceived alongside the collection, Bennani commands control of the Miu Miu live stream via a series of filmic artistic interventions starring her own mother. These fantasy sequences are mixed real-time into the broadcast of the show to blur lines between virtual and real.

Underscoring these ideas, the interior of the Palais d’Iena is interrupted rather than transformed. Its architecture remains, a runway devised by AMO snaking through the centre, the audience balanced on Eames office chairs as an echo of the Palais’ continuing function as place of work. In the Palais, Bennani installs binocular- shaped screens to cut through the space, reforming and re-editing the physical experience of the show and projecting her films into real life. As with the clothing of the collection, these filmic cuts create a new work - editing reality, altering perceptions.

DREAM IN COLOR VIBRANT HUES AND NAIVE, ALMOST PSYCHEDELIC PATTERNS THAT SWARM ALL OVER, ENTERTAINING THE EYE
www.moncler.com

Designer Jonathan Anderson employs seemingly boundless creativity, an abstract sensibility, and contemporary edge, creating fashion that is direct, yet twisted, familiar and obscure, straightforward and surprising. His playful juxtaposition of contrasting elements delivers a youthful message in a deftly energetic offering.

An upbeat escapism defines JW Anderson’s new collection, expressed through vibrant hues and naive, almost psychedelic patterns that swarm all over, entertaining the eye. The collection, Anderson’s third for MONCLER GENIUS, strengthens the dialogue with Moncler’s functional and outdoorsy roots, and the idea of clothing meant to meet with the elements, while focusing on pattern, color and texture. Shapes are played down but also playful, meant to be used fluidly across genders: padded parkas with leather straps; cropped blusons; zip-up jackets; padded vests; oversized jumpers; sweatshirts, hoodies and teddy fleeces; padded miniskirts and bermudas; roomy trousers.

On this rather genuine base, colors explode in almost primitive motifs: sprayed dots of different width, coiling waves and colorful blotches are either printed on fabric or knitwear, or rendered in jacquard on thick knitted jumpers. Overdyeing gives outerwear an uneven effect, adding another element of visual and textural stimulation. The intensity of colors – shades of yellow, green, baby blue, baby pink, electric blue, brown and coral – is given a crafty opacity by the choice of materials: washed cottons and denims mixed with Moncler’s nylons and technical fabrics. The dry finish to the materials makes the colors feel deep and rich, allowing for maximum impact.

THE AIR COMMAND COLLECTION TAKES OFF FOR NEW HORIZONS

Blancpain is expanding its Air Command collection, inspired by one of its legendary historical chronographs. The new 36.2 mm-diameter model now joining the Manufacture’s line-up of sporty timepieces is smaller than its predecessor, while nonetheless endowed with all the makings of a great chronograph.

Feminine watches hold a special place in Blancpain’s watch range. Since the early 1930s, the Manufacture has tirelessly developed new movements and introduced innovations on women’s behalf. Blancpain is no stranger to ladies’ chronographs and in 1998 became the first to introduce a flyback chronograph for women. While this function is now found at the heart of several Blancpain models, the Air Command offers a new, sportier and more adventurous interpretation.

The rare 1950s Blancpain chronograph that inspired the Air Command collection is naturally reflected in the vintage look of this new model. The layout of the counters and tachymeter scale on the dial, as well as the shape of the luminescent hands and hour-markers, the piston-type chronograph pushers and the glassbox-type sapphire crystal all evoke the original timepiece.

Exactly like authentic vintage aviation watches, the new Air Command offers two distinct timing modes: a flyback chronograph and a countdown bezel. This model is nonetheless firmly rooted in the 21st century. The blue colour of the dial and the ceramic bezel insert endow it with a blend of modernity and elegance. The refinement continues with the sunburst and snailed dial finishes, as well as the alternating satin- brushed and polished finishing on the case. Housed inside its 36.2 mm diameter is the finest technology, represented by the F188B self-winding movement whose vertical clutch ensures stutter-free activation of the chronograph seconds hand, as well as smooth and optimal stop/start functions. Equipped with a silicon balance-spring, the movement also features a column-wheel system guaranteeing a smooth feel when starting or ending a measurement and resetting the hands to zero. The back of the watch reveals the beauty of this high-end mechanism and its openworked oscillating weight, adorned with traditional watchmaking finishes such as circular graining, bevelling and snailing.

Available in grade 23 titanium – an exceptional quality rarely used in watchmaking – or in red gold, the Air Command comes with a blue calf leather strap featuring white stitching. This new release, reflecting Blancpain’s desire to offer feminine models in all its timepiece collections, will accompany the most intrepid wrists.

HILL HELICOPTER END-TO-END OWNERSHIP EXPERIENCE
www.hillhelicopters.com

A FRESH APPROACH

Hill Helicopters has pioneered a reimagined approach to delivering and supporting safe, exciting luxury private aircraft ownership at an affordable price. We call it General Aviation 2.0.

General Aviation 2.0 (GA2.0) extends far beyond the aircraft. It is an end-to-end ownership experience delivering the aircraft you’ve always wanted and combining it with all the support you need to get the best out of private aviation.

Entirely customer focused, GA2.0 begins with our ground up, exhilarating modern aircraft design embodying all the features today’s pilots demand, while simultaneously meeting or exceeding the latest EASA and FAA airworthiness requirements. Beyond this, GA2.0 also provides an all new, safe, and fully supported ownership experience. These factors together ensure your new aircraft delivers unprecedentedly low operating costs and maintains a stable high resale value, making personal helicopter ownership more attainable than ever before.

DUAL ROLE APPROVAL MODEL

Light helicopter owners fall into two broad categories – private and commercial users. While an aircraft may meet performance requirements for both, private owners demand far more modern technology, greater luxury, frequent product refreshes, and notably different support compared to their commercial operator counterparts.

Our Dual Role Approval Model allows us to best serve the needs of both distinctly different userbases with two variants of the same aircraft. HX50 serves private owners while HC50 focuses on commercial users. Both aircraft are essentially identical, each meeting the latest EASA and FAA certification standards for small/normal category rotorcraft and both entirely factory built in our world-class UK aerospace manufacturing facility.

HX50 however is not sold with a type certificate. Instead, it receives an initial type approval from the UK CAA to the latest certification standards of EASA CS-27, meets FAA Part 27 and is provided to customers with an amateur-built airworthiness approval. Each aircraft is factory constructed during a two-week fully supported build course in the UK.

HX50 Benefits

• Factory-built aircraft

• Meets the latest EASA and FAA certified standards

• Greatly enhanced design and safety features

• Modern technology

• Strong residual value

• Lowest possible cost of ownership

Our commercial variant, HC50, is offered with a traditional type certificate, with the initial certification being provided by the UK CAA and subsequent type validations/acceptances following around the world.

There are only four differences between the HX50 and the HC50

• Price

• Time to market

• Required owner participation in manufacture of HX50

• Private (HX50) versus full commercial (HC50) use

By fusing the best elements of the certification process with those of recreational aviation, GA2.0 makes owner-operators the focus of the general aviation industry and, together with HX50, will trigger a long overdue renaissance in private aviation.

42

CERTIFICATION VS HOLISTIC SAFETY

Certification does not make an aircraft any safer than one designed, manufactured, maintained, and operated in accordance with the certification standards. Certification simply means an aviation authority officially confirms the aircraft meets required airworthiness standards. In the case of privately operated aircraft, there is much more to delivering and operating a holistically safe aircraft than meeting certification requirements. The aircraft must meet the form, function, and safety needs of its end-users.

Private owners are often inexperienced pilots, and their aircraft should focus on their needs – benign handling qualities, resilience to low-g conditions, excellent stability, high power reserves, realistic payload for user requirements, robust crashworthiness, and ease of operation with minimum pilot workload.

The traditional approach to certification inhibits developing innovative new technologies and systems that meet these needs. Manufacturers turn to older, pre-approved components to minimise the cost, complexity, and timescales of certification. This unfortunately limits the ability to deliver ‘holistically safe’ aircraft.

Every Hill helicopter meets the latest EASA and FAA certification standards for normal category rotorcraft and is built in our UK CAA-approved factory. With HX50, we fuse the highest levels of airworthiness from the latest certification standards with the GA-appropriate type approval process found in amateur-built aircraft. HC50, which is essentially the same aircraft, produced in the same approved factory, is offered to the market somewhat later, with a full type certificate enabling commercial use.

The dual role approval model allows the innovative HX50 to meet the highest possible safety standards while being brought to market faster and with lower overall costs, holistically improving the safety and affordability of all light helicopters.

www.hillhelicopters.com/general-aviation-20
How the Program Works Ownership of a Hill HX50 provides the high-performance, luxury aircraft you always wanted with the skills and knowledge you need to be a holistically safe independent owner-operator. Our approach intelligently fuses standards-meeting, factory-built aircraft with the crucial owner-operator training, education, and insight that can only be effectively delivered though involvement in the construction of your own aircraft. HX50 not only signals a paradigm shift in aircraft design, but also in how we equip private pilots to be independent owner-operators. HX50 Ownership includes the following crucial elements: 2-Week Factory Construction Course • Owner-operators participate in two-week factory workshop • Assemble your aircraft alongside CAA-approved production staff • Receive unparalleled insight into the aircraft’s inner workings, manufacturing process, and rationale behind aircraft operating procedures and limitations • Gain considerable advantage and safety awareness • Receive an unforgettable experience to launch your helicopter ownership Safety Course • A comprehensive pilot safety course aimed specifically at private owner-operators and the HX50 aircraft • A comprehensive maintenance training course for owners or their designated licensed mechanics covering all field-approved An integrated cloud-based HX50 operating platform • Integrates with flight data recorder functions • Provides access to pilot and technical support

• flying

HX50

The Ideal Option for Private Owners

For private owners, the HX50 cost model is nothing short of revolutionary. Calendar depreciation is essentially eliminated with a long 5,000-hour, on-condition TBO and no 12-year aircraft and engine overhaul requirement. Hill’s commitment to low ongoing maintenance and insurance costs drive down the remaining fixed costs, allowing the majority of entry-level private helicopter owners to keep their aircraft to themselves and avoid the perils and uncertainty of leaseback.

MOVERS AND SHAKERS

HENRY HORN GROUP

Let’s face it. When you’re buying or selling luxury properties in Southern California, it takes an agent and a team with a luxury pedigree to ensure success. And it also takes an elite real estate mind to ensure your financial and lifestyle futures will not only benefit you in the short term, but will also generate a whole new level of personal success and fulfillment for years to come.

It’s not just about the Calacatta marble countertops, or accordion doors, or coved and coffered ceilings—that’s not what sells a property. In order to realize your ultimate real estate goals, whether you’re looking to make a profit or looking to lay down some roots, it’s about the entire vision of how a home can transform your life on a fundamental level. That’s a sacred responsibility—and it should be handled with respect, finesse, and superior knowledge.

Enter Henry Horn, the well traveled, well connected, in-the-know spirit and mind behind one of L.A.’s most iconic real estate teams.

Focused. Determined. Personable. Intellectual. Sophisticated. Progressive—these are just some of the buzzwords clients use to describe their experience with the Henry Horn Group, a SoCal powerhouse of some of the most motivated and talented agents you can find in the industry.

Let’s get this straight—Henry is a true California real estate guru. Having grown up in both L.A. and Southern Orange County, as well as calling San Francisco home while heading-up a real estate highrise lead gen platform, Henry not only provides his clients with the regional knowledge and insight necessary to take their real estate game to the next level, but also has the insider info on all up-andcoming markets, trends, and…California luxury essentials.

Having put his stamp on the SoCal luxury market as a top-producing senior broker at Agentinc., Henry offers his clients and colleagues a truly upmarket real estate experience founded upon his worldly business acumen sourced from Singapore to Switzerland, as well as his ability to match minds, investors, and personalities around the globe to create an elite network of who’s whos.

How does he do it? Henry holds a fundamental belief that real estate is more than just buying and selling homes—it’s about connecting people, creating eternal memories, and ensuring clients experience their richest lifestyle dreams. In order to reach the pinnacle of luxury, it takes a team effort. The Henry Horn Group consistently ups the ante when it comes to client expectations and they’re prepared to tackle any transactional challenge across the entire luxury real estate market. Add a new buzzword to the list—fearless.

Elevated caught up with Henry to sit down and talk about his vision, his history, and what the world of luxury will look like in the coming months. What did we discover? Henry is at the top of his game.

When it comes to luxury real estate, you’ve represented quite a few jaw-dropping listings in both L.A. and Coastal Orange County. How did you find your niche in two of the world’s most competitive and demanding markets?

I love Los Angeles—there’s so much energy. But Orange County is a very sentimental place for me. Growing up, I had the opportunity to live and experience the dynamics of both L.A. and South Orange County. The familiarity of both markets has really influenced how I market real estate, and having associates on my team in both areas is a huge positive factor.

With the prices homes are selling for these days, it seems everyone is in the luxury market. Where do you see the future of the luxury market going in the coming months?

In my opinion, the luxury market has continued to evolve dramatically over the last few years in Los Angeles and Orange County. Many homes under $5,000,000 wouldn’t be considered luxury today compared to some of the estate properties that are currently on the market. I see the luxury market transforming into many different segments in the coming years. As smaller and older homes are being renovated with the highest-end materials and fixtures, these homes represent a new aspirational segment of luxury homes for many first-time and upgrading homebuyers. Estate properties are getting larger, and with more over-the-top features, they become the new standard in the ultra-luxury market.

L.A. has diverse range of architecture spanning across an expansive region, and Los Angelenos have a diverse range of tastes. What neighborhoods do you think always retain their value while continuing to attract buyers from an aesthetic standpoint?

There are so many neighborhoods I love in Los Angeles. Centrally, you have The Flats in Beverly Hills with its spectacular estates, awesome pockets in West Hollywood including Sunset Plaza and Melrose, and the celebrity-filled Bird Streets in the Hollywood Hills. There is also the Silver Lake and Echo Park district that has been a strong epicenter for arts, culture, and diversity. As you move west to Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, and south to Manhattan Beach, you’ll find additional enclaves of architecturally rich homes. These areas will continue to attract buyers because of their location, storied histories, and iconic status.

The entire team at Henry Horn Group prides itself on next-level service, knowledge, and drive. How were you able to put together a synergistic team of like-minded individuals who all have the same passion for real estate?

I’m very fortunate to have such a great team and be a part of a group that’s so talented and dynamic. My journey over the last year at Agentinc. allowed me to cross paths with many wonderful individuals and assemble an elite team. We’re growing extremely fast and welcome motivated agents to join. We have agents with backgrounds in business, entertainment, art and law who all share a love of real estate and are able to infuse it with their other passions. Our team isn’t just about selling real estate—we embrace camaraderie, experience, and support. Most importantly, we have fun as we continue to grow and prosper.

As mentioned before, you’ve represented some amazing properties over your career. Can you share a couple of your favorites?

Early in my career, I was able to represent a buyer on a stunning vineyard in the Central Valley. I learned a lot and am grateful to have that experience under my belt. As my career progressed, I was able to represent a wide range of properties including single-family homes, multifamily, and commercial buildings. My most recent favorite sale was an Art Deco multifamily apartment building, in which I was truly in awe of the original vintage light fixtures. I am also listing a collection of luxury residences in the Bel Air area that have undergone an impeccable remodel. I’ve represented some amazing properties from San Francisco to Los Angeles to San Diego. One commonality was the wonderful people I was fortunate to interact with. What really

matters most to me is developing strong lifelong relationships with my clients and being their trusted partner in real estate.

Where’s your go-to spot for dinner or lunch in L.A.?

I really enjoy 208 Rodeo in Beverly Hills—their California cuisine is delicious, and it’s set among some beautiful boutiques along a European style cobblestone walkway. Another favorite is Katana in West Hollywood. There is open-air seating right off the Sunset Strip with DJ’s playing. They serve some of the best sushi and robata in the city. Paired with some sake or an aged Japanese whisky, it’s one of my favorite dinner spots for sure. For a casual lunch, you have to try South Beverly Grill and order their Osaka-style pressed sushi.

You have a $2.5M budget to find a home in L.A. or Coastal Orange County—where do you look first?

I would recommend one hidden gem of a community in Los Angeles County—Palos Verdes Estates. I’m a little biased because that’s where I own a home. It’s a coastal enclave reminiscent of some South O.C. coastal communities. Palos Verdes Estates is known for its beautiful bluff homes and access to the beach, nature preserves and horseback riding, yet it’s close enough to Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and all the other hot spots in Los Angeles. You’re minutes away from Pacific Coast Highway and can spontaneously take a leisurely drive north towards Malibu or south to Laguna Beach, and be in either location in about an hour in good traffic.

INTERIOR EXTERIOR
We asked ourselves: where are we headed to in the next 5, 10, 20 years? What kind of territory is the Dominant Species going to conquer next?

As a showcase of the Pacific Northwest, The George offers a modern, brasserie-inspired dining experience in the heart of downtown Seattle featuring the freshest seafood straight from local waters and dry aged meats sourced from farms across the state and region.

Artisan cheeses will be provided by local dairies, and seasonal Pacific Northwest fruits and vegetables from local farmers and sustainable foragers.

Originally opened in 1924, Fairmont Olympic Hotel’s dining room has served as the social hub of Seattle for many decades. From hosting fashion icons and legendary musicians to top philanthropists and tastemakers, the space has been a favorite for locals and visitors alike.

Through the years, the classic dining room has been the setting for

generations of events and has become a memorable part the Seattle dining scene. The new name pays homage to the history of the cherished dining room, while evolving into a new era and introducing fresh traditions.

...brasserie-inspired dining experience...

The George makes its debut with a stunning new look by Spanish design studio Lázaro Rosa-Violán (LRV) that honors the space’s famed history and soaring classical framework, while incorporating fresh and timeless interior designs, as well as a new beautifully crafted bar and a dedicated street entrance from Seneca Street at the corner of 5th Avenue. Still guided by the vernacular of the building’s original architect George B. Post, many of the unique design elements remain the same, while bringing in a new overall interior aesthetic.

19 55 MERCEDES-BENZ 300 SLR UHLENHAUT COUPES ACCLAIMED POSITION IN SPORTS CAR MYTHOLOGY
www.mercedes-benz.com SOLD FOR 135 MILLION EUROS 58

• All time record: One of two ultra-rare original 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupes from the Mercedes-Benz Classic Collection has been auctioned for 135 million EUR to a private collector, making it the most valuable car of all time.

• Using this value to drive change: The proceeds will be used to establish a worldwide "Mercedes-Benz Fund" that will provide educational and research scholarships in the areas of environmental science and decarbonization for young people.

A Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe from 1955 has been sold at auction for a record price of 135 million EUR to a private collector. This icon of automotive history is an absolute rarity – one of just two prototypes built at the time. Named after its creator and chief engineer, Rudolf Uhlenhaut, it is considered to be one of the finest examples of automotive engineering and design by automotive experts and enthusiasts worldwide.

"The 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupes are milestones in sports car development and key historical elements that have shaped our brand. The decision to sell one of these two unique sports cars was taken with very sound reasoning – to benefit a good cause. The proceeds from the auction will fund a global scholarship program. With the "Mercedes-Benz Fund" we would like to encourage a new generation to follow in Rudolf Uhlenhaut's innovative footsteps and develop amazing new technologies, particularly those that support the critical goal of decarbonization and resource preservation," says Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group AG. "At the same time, achieving the highest price ever paid for a vehicle is extraordinary and humbling: A Mercedes-Benz is by far the most valuable car in the world."

"As a global company and as a luxury brand we bear a great level of responsibility towards society," says Renata Jungo Brüngger, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG for Integrity and Legal Affairs, who is responsible for the governance of the "Mercedes-Benz Fund". "The proceeds from the sale of the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe provide us with a unique opportunity to strengthen our commitment with a long-term flagship project: We will establish the global scholarship program "Mercedes-Benz Fund" supporting young people in their studies, commitment and actions towards a more sustainable future. We are convinced that access to education in these areas will be crucial in encountering the great challenges of our time and contribute to greater stability, prosperity and social cohesion."

Seed capital for scholarship program from proceeds

The proceeds from the auction of the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe

serve as seed capital for the global initiative. Mercedes-Benz is committed to investing additional resources in the coming years.

The "Mercedes-Benz Fund" will be divided into two sub-categories: University Scholarships in order to connect, educate and encourage students to realize/conduct research on environmental science projects and School Scholarships focusing on pupils to realize local environmental projects in their communities. The program funds will be directed to individuals who otherwise do not have the financial means for their projects and career paths. The program will go beyond financially supporting the young people and include extracurricular elements like Mercedes-Benz mentorships opening up new career prospects. The "Mercedes-Benz Fund" will be jointly developed with and managed by an experienced partner which is currently being evaluated. The

History and auction of 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe

The sale of the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe took place on May 5th at an auction held at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in cooperation with renowned auctioneer RM Sotheby's. The invitees were among selected Mercedes-Benz customers and international collectors of cars and art, who share the corporate values of Mercedes-Benz.

The 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe sold at auction was part of the non-public vehicle collection belonging to Mercedes- Benz Classic, comprising more than 1100 automobiles from the invention of the automobile in 1886 until today.

"We are proud that we can contribute with our historical collection to this initiative connecting the past with the future of engineering and decarbonization technology", says Marcus Breitschwerdt,

that the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe will remain accessible for public display on special occasions, while the second original 300 SLR Coupe remains in company ownership and will continue to be displayed at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart."

The special circumstances behind its creation, its unique design and its innovative technology have endowed the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe with a remarkable level of mystique that endures to this day. The design of the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe set benchmarks that put it among the world's most significant automotive icons – not least on account of its distinctive "gullwing" doors. Added to this is the outstanding performance delivered by its thoroughbred racing technology. Together, both have secured the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe its acclaimed position in sports car mythology and a very special place in the hearts of Mercedes fans around the world.v

“Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance answers the strong demand we continue to see for higher-performance versions of the Lucid Air,” said Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO, Lucid Group. “The remarkable speed with which we are able to conceive and bring this model to market is possible only because of Lucid’s high degree of vertical integration and in-house production of our proprietary EV powertrain and battery pack technology.”

HISTORIQUES OF AN ICON

222 RETURN

www.vacheron-constantin.com

name derived from its bidirectional rotating bezel with a 15-minute graduated scale. The shape of the baton-type hands and the geometry of its straight hour-markers did not go unnoticed, even though the model had a relatively short lifespan.

In 1975, the Maison made a new foray into the field of urban watches with the Chronomètre Royal reference 42001. With its special-shaped case, combined with a rounded octagonal bezel, this first Vacheron Constantin timepiece in steel with an integrated bracelet opened up new style perspectives. These were confirmed two years with the 222 designed by Jorg Hysek, whose modern style retains Vacheron Constantin’s inherent elegance and attention to detail.

In addition to being a new model with an integrated bracelet, the 222 watch launched in 1977 introduced a functional architecture with its flat base topped by a prominent fluted bezel. Its monobloc case, which required the movement to be cased-up from above, was water-resistant to 120 metres thanks to its screw-down bezel. The 222 boasted exemplary thinness at 7 mm, thanks to its ultra-thin movement measuring barely 3.05 mm and driving indications of the hours, minutes and date. The baton-type hands and straight hour-markers similar to the 1963 reference 6782

Turnograph watch confirmed an understated and refined aesthetic, while exuding an impression of robustness thanks to its bracelet screwed to the case middle and featuring large hexagonal central links. Initially presented in a 37 mm version nicknamed "Jumbo", the 222 was subsequently interpreted in 34 mm and 24 mm steel, yellow gold or two-tone iterations, polished or gemset but always adorned with the Maison’s Maltese cross emblem nestling in the right-hand corner of the case at 5 o'clock. Remaining in limited production until 1985, the 222 belongs to the legend of the first "sporty-chic" watches in watchmaking history.

The importance of details

Vacheron Constantin is offering an updated interpretation of this legendary model in its Jumbo version with the Historiques 222 watch in 18K 3N yellow gold. In keeping with the spirit of the Historiques collection, the watches composing the collection are not identical replicas of the original watch, but instead contemporary reinterpretations, endowed with the latest technical advances to optimise their reliability and comfort on the wrist.

The emblematic codes of the 222 have been respected: 37 mm diameter, fluted bezel, gold-toned dial, straight hour-markers and baton-type hands, integrated bracelet and hexagonal central links, as well as the Maltese cross at 5 o'clock made of polished Pd150 white gold and soldered onto the flat base of the case.

A few subtle changes have been made to the Historiques 222 watch:

Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations/hour) and endowed with a 40-hour power reserve (compared with 2.75 Hz for the original model), Calibre 2455/2 delivers enhanced precision. The oscillating weight of Calibre 2455/2 was specifically developed for this model and is engraved with the original 222 logo,

surrounded by a fluted motif echoing the bezel.

The caseback is openworked to reveal the calibre.

The finishes – vertical-satin-brushed crown and bracelet; circular satin-finished bezel and polished hour-markers, hand-chamfered gear trains and bridges adorned with a Côtes de Genève motif, as well as a circular-grained mainplate – reveal the concern for each and every detail characterising the world of Haute Horlogerie.

The dial features the vintage font of the “AUTOMATIC” inscription.

The date window has been significantly offset from the outer rim of the dial to enhance legibility, thanks to the slightly smaller diameter of the calibre compared with its predecessor.

The Super-LumiNova® coating of the hands and hour-markers (off-white by day and lime green by night) also results in improved

The bracelet articulations have been revisited to hide the visible pins and improve comfort on the wrist.

The Anatomy of Beauty®

All the features of the legendary 222 have been respected in this contemporary re-edition. The meticulous attention to detail illustrates the Vacheron Constantin theme of the year, "The Anatomy of Beauty®". This painstaking care is expressed through the designers' aesthetic choices and preferences as well as in the finishing work performed by the artisans. All the components of a Vacheron Constantin watch benefit from this scrupulous attention, even those that remain invisible once the movement has been assembled. A keen eye will note the fine guilloché work on a dial or the gem-set minutes track; it will make out the contours of the Maison’s Maltese cross emblem on the links of a bracelet; it will notice the small flame-blued screw serving as a seconds indicator on a tourbillon carriage and the mirror polish of a minute-repeater hammer; it will appreciate the artisans’ delicate touch when chamfering a plate or rounding off a bridge; and finally, it will admire the miniature enamel painting depicting a ship tossed around by a stormy sea streaked with lightning. At Vacheron Constantin, concern for detail delicately shapes an anatomy of beauty in which nothing is left to chance.

"Above and beyond its status as an icon, the 222 watch is a wonderful tribute to the work of our designers and engineers, and an illustration of their ability to perpetuate the avant-garde spirit of our Maison.”

THE POLARIS EMBARKS ON NEW ADVENTURES
www.jaeger-lecoultre.com DURABLE APPEAL OF THIS DESIGN, WITH ITS SUBTLE VINTAGE TOUCHES 88

Inspired by the 1968 Memovox Polaris, the Polaris collection has defined the spirit of sporty elegance at Jaeger-LeCoultre. Utilitarian functions, vintage design codes and modern standards of chronometric performance — these are the three characteristics that distinguish the Polaris, which now comes in a deep green dial, bringing a new touch of colour to the everyday adventures of life.

A signature model of Jaeger-LeCoultre, the Memovox Polaris has been a mainstay of uniquely utilitarian watchmaking since its introduction in 1968. Diving watches are a staple of any sports watch collection, but few have maintained as consistent a following over the decades as the Memovox Polaris.

Launched in 2018, the Polaris Date drew inspiration from the 1968 Memovox Polaris, one of the most popular Polaris models of all time, demonstrating the durable appeal of this design, with its subtle vintage touches through the vanilla luminescent coating. In 2022, the Polaris Date is now available with a gradient deep green dial.

Measuring 42mm in diameter, the case of the Polaris Date remains subtle, thanks to its satin-finished surfaces, with polished chamfers on the case lugs and narrow bezel. This allows the dial to take centre focus, showcased by the glass-box crystal that recalls the Plexiglas dial crystals of mid-century timepieces.

For maximum versatility in wear, the Polaris Date comes with a green rubber strap that is equipped with a quick-change system. Within seconds, the strap can easily be swapped with a wide range of Jaeger-LeCoultre bracelets and straps with perfect compatibility.

The new green dial of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date represents the all-terrain nature of the timepiece, emphasised by its rugged, matt-finished case construction. Its heritage shines through in the vanilla-hued Super-LumiNova® indexes, suggestive of a well-aged aesthetic. Within the 42mm steel case beats the latest-generation Calibre 899, with 70 hours of power reserve. Now, more than ever, the Polaris is the elegant sports watch for a life of adventure.

The Polaris Date is a Boutique Edition and will be available exclusively from Jaeger-LeCoultre e-commerce for a month.

About Chef-Owner Jeoffrey Offer

Born and raised in the South of France, Jeoffrey Offer discovered his culinary inspiration at a young age. Since his teenage years, Offer had a laser-focused vision of creating a life for himself in America. With classically trained French chefs in high demand, Offer saw an opportunity to use his passion for cooking as a means to make his American dream a reality. At 19, he attended culinary school in his hometown, Toulouse, France, where he advanced to the top of his class, completing the curriculum and an apprenticeship in just one year. During his studies, he began working at Le Cercle d’Oc, under the tutelage of Chef Raymond Serres, who played a formative role in Offer’s culinary journey, fully igniting his passion for cooking. Impressed by his work ethic, Serres invited Offer to join him in opening a new restaurant, Le Patio de St. Jory, as one of just two chefs in the kitchen. With his American dream at the forefront of his mind, Offer saw an opportunity to bolster his resume and accepted a chefeducator position at a new culinary school and restaurant in Burma, Myanmar in 2011. He was responsible for teaching a group of young Monastery students the technical skills of classic French cooking. The following year, Offer returned to France, accepting a corporate sous chef position at Sodexo Co.’s The Sky, a fine-dining restaurant reserved exclusively for Airbus executives. It was here that he developed the technical and operational skills required to run a restaurant. By October 2013, he had five years of experience and a well-rounded resume. He eagerly obtained a two-month tourist visa and boarded a flight, arriving in Los Angeles with nothing but a backpack and a dream. Within a few days, he began working as a cook at Monsieur Marcel, assisting with catering jobs for Hollywood’s elite. Following months of hurdles involving false promises of permanent positions and travels back to France for renewed visas, Offer’s reputation among the French community garnered the attention of Laurent Vrignaud. The French-born businessman was building a restaurant and tapped Offer to join the opening team. In 2014, he moved to Orange County to open Moulin, where he worked as the Executive Chef for over six years, from opening the brand’s flagship location in Newport Beach to its expansion into a 5th location. Now, with more than a decade of experience in opening and operating restaurants around the world, Offer has carved out his own slice of the American dream with the opening of his first restaurant Butcher’s House.

BOAT TAIL, THE NEXT CHAPTER, LAKE COMO ROLLS-ROYCE MASTERWORK OF RESTRAINT, SOPHISTICATION, ELEGANCE AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL
www.rolls-roycemotorcars.com 108

The essence of Rolls-Royce Coachbuild is that each commission tells a story entirely unique and personal to its owner, reflecting their own history, tastes and sensibilities. With this in mind, Boat Tail, revealed at Concorso d'Eleganza, Villa d'Este 2022, on the shores of Lake Como in northern Italy, is a masterwork of restraint, sophistication, elegance and attention to detail.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is honoured to present the next chapter of its Boat Tail coachbuilt commission – one of just three that have been, and ever will be made.

“Coachbuild elevates our work as a House of Luxury into a new space; it is the haute couture of our industry. For the commissioning patron it offers the ultimate in individuality, self-expression and Bespoke service. Far more than just a beautiful motor car, a coachbuilt creation becomes a legacy that embodies something extraordinarily personal and emotionally resonant for each client. For our designers, too, Coachbuild provides unparalleled creative freedom; opportunities to take design, materials, engineering and craftsmanship to the very highest levels. For Rolls-Royce as a marque, it is both a return to our roots and a contemporary revolution, in which we deliver the impossible in conventional automotive manufacturing into a stunning reality.”

“Every Rolls-Royce Coachbuild commission is, of course, incredibly special; but in this case, there was an additional depth of feeling. Creating a motor car in honour of a revered client’s father and family history is an extraordinary privilege; a responsibility that we took very much to heart. The commissioning patron's deep-rooted connection to Boat Tail is an inspiration – the result far exceeds a means of conveyance to become, quite literally, a moving work of art."

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is honoured to present the next chapter of its Boat Tail coachbuilt commission – one of just three that have been, and ever will be made.

Boat Tail is entirely hand-built, with the body panels fashioned from vast, single sheets of aluminium to create the distinctive outline inspired by the racing yachts of the early 20th century. In every respect, this remarkable motor car is entirely unique.

It was commissioned by a patron whose family business has grown from his father's origins in the pearling industry. Widely travelled, internationally educated and cosmopolitan in his tastes and influences, the client is an established patron of the arts, who additionally owns a sizeable collection of classic and modern cars, housed in a dedicated private museum.

A level of sophistication, garnered from the client's extensive knowledge of luxury, is

clearly visible in this coveted objet d'art. The overall design aesthetic is restrained; a study in carefully considered materials and precise details that together create a highly personal and emotionally resonant homage to the client’s father.

At the onset of the commissioning process, the client presented Rolls-Royce Coachbuild Designers with a selection of four pearl shells, personally chosen from his private collection for their unique colour and complexity. The shells provided inspiration for the exterior colour, which is one of the most complex Bespoke finishes ever created by Rolls-Royce.

The foundation of the colour is a shimmering blend of oyster and soft rose, with large white and bronze mica flakes adding a unique pearlescent quality that changes subtly under different light conditions. The contrasting cognac-coloured bonnet, created specifically for this Boat Tail, contains fine bronze and gold coloured aluminium mica flakes complete with a layer of crystal and iced matt clear coat, adding significant warmth and depth to the car's appearance. The technical fibre lower sills of Boat Tail incorporate a rose gold woven thread.

The rear deck, which houses Boat Tail's unique 'butterfly-design' hosting suite, is swathed in Royal Walnut veneer, inlaid with rose gold-plated pinstripes with a satin-brushed finish to ensure a sensitive and sophisticated appearance. The Royal Walnut was specifically selected by the client for its beautiful properties as it matures over time, a material that will gradually transition to the tonal properties of the cognac colour. From above, one observes a harmonious balance and satin effect of the iced bonnet and tactile wooden rear deck, in contrast with the high-gloss front and side perspectives.

From the front, the Pantheon Grille, milled from a single, solid billet of aluminium, is graced with a Spirit of Ecstasy fashioned in rose gold.

The interior is a beautifully curated combination of perfectly matched cognac and oyster-coloured leathers and Royal Walnut veneer, with rose gold and mother-of-pearl accents throughout. The leathers, complete with a pearlescent finish, accentuate the surfaces and forms of Boat Tail's seats and interior design. The transmission tunnel is formed from Royal Walnut veneer with rose gold pinstripes, drawing a direct visual reference to the rear deck and adding a glowing warmth to Boat Tail's interior.

The centrepiece of the dashboard is a timepiece made from mother-of-pearl, chosen and supplied by the client from his own collection; the fascia of which is pure and minimal in its appearance so as not to detract from the precious material. The same prised substance graces the control switches and instrument dials, creating a strong visual and material connection between the car, the owner, and his family heritage.

Alex Innes, Head of Coachbuild Design, said, “Boat Tail is a step-change in ingenuity and creative liberty. Building a motor car by hand offers a new realm of exploration and possibility: we can accomplish things and resolve challenges that normal industrialised methods would prohibit. This is the tale of two worlds: a modern motor car of contemporary design, made possible by historical techniques and time-honoured craft. It is

Pure(bred) Beauty A Day in the Life of Robert and Dixie North of North Arabians Horse Ranch
114

For over 35 years, Robert and Dixie North have been at the forefront of the Arabian horse breeding world, carving a name out for themselves and their famed animals across the world. Having owned perhaps the most legendary stallion of our time, Padrons Psyche, Robert and Dixie have continued to provide a long lineage of Arabian progeny and National Champions that continue to excite and dazzle horse lovers around the globe.

Today, Robert and Dixie care for one of the most beautiful broodmare bands in the world, welcoming new foals with unlimited potential each spring. But it’s not just about the quality of the Arabians the North Arabians ranch breeds—it’s about the setting, the vision, and the quality of life the North’s have created to ensure each new foal is welcomed into an ideal world of comfort, wellbeing, opportunity, and love—a love Dixie North has been cultivating since childhood.

To come face-to-face with an Arabian —the world’s oldest purebred horse—with it’s distinctive dished face, high tail carriage, and near 1000 pound stature is breathtaking and invigorating to say the least. But behind the beauty also lies an extremely intelligent and emotional animal known to form strong bonds with its owners and family members. One long gaze into the eyes of an Arabian on the North Arabians ranch and you’ll be hooked forever—just as Dixie North was at 8 years old.

Situated on 350 acres in Ramona, California, the North Arabians ranch has become the epicenter of Arabian horse breeding, bringing forth mares sired not only Padrons Psyche, but also Bey Shah, Falcon BHF, Ever After NA, and Sir Fames HBV. If you’re not well versed in Arabian horse culture, let’s just say a vast majority of award-winning Arabian horses have originated from the North Arabians ranch over the past few decades. A dynasty? You bet.

Elevated took some time to visit Dixie at her ranch to discuss and enjoy the awe and splendor of some of the finest Arabian horses on the planet as well as dive into the rich history of the North Arabians ranch and legacy. Saddle up—it’s time to ride through the world of Robert and Dixie North.

Let’s start at the beginning—how did North Arabians come to exist and why Ramona, CA?

When I was little, I was horse crazy. When I grew up and got married to my husband, Robert, he had never even touched a large animal. So in our thirties, we went to live in Alice Springs, Australia for a few years. I had horses there and rode into the outback daily. When we came back to California, I knew I had to keep horses in my life. We bought a half-acre home in Rolling Hills, California. I started with a quarter horse, then a Morgan mare. But one day, as I was riding, an absolutely magnificent Arabian stallion came up the trail. I stopped to chat with the owner, and the next day had my mare over to her house to breed. So our first two foals were half Arabians. We decided since we had two halves we could justify being North Arabians. Of course next came the first purebred mare, and I fell in love with that magnificent stallion. We had outgrown our half acre so we moved to one-and-a-half acres at Orange Park Acres and outgrew that as we added to the broodmares, until we found twelve acres in Ramona. And now, we’ve got 350 acres for our horses to enjoy.

Let’s pretend our readers know nothing about Arabian horse breeding and Arabian horse culture. What is it about Arabian horses that’s so captivating?

There’s just something about an Arabian, from the intelligent look in their soft dark eyes, to the graceful way they carry themselves, to the beautiful arched neck and tail flagged in the air, not to mention their short dishy faces and tipped-in ears. Their personalities alone are captivating enough when you have the chance to bond with them.

Arabians are known to be “people horses.” What has it been like to connect with so many beautiful horses over your career?

We’ve been very fortunate to have owned some highly soughtafter horses from all over the world. At one time we had a very impressive broodmare band consisting of multiple national and international champions. We imported two stallions from Brazil— two of the sweetest stallions to experience. Lumiar Amadeus resided here for several years and was sold to Charlie Watts in England. And the other, Sir Fames, produced Ever After NA who

was our major stallion. Ever After was very successful in the show ring, and was only shown once at U.S. Nationals taking Reserve National Champion, and was also the number one producer of champions for several years. Ever After took the breeding away from his sire, so Sir Fames was sold to a new owner in Brazil.

Padrons Psyche was one of the most, if not the most, legendary Arabian horses of his time. What was it like having him at North Arabians?

Pardons Psyche was called the “Living Legend” when he was alive. We bought him as a 12-year-old for an astronomical sum—he was known all over the world. He produced so many champions in the U.S. but also across the globe. At the top shows, Psyche was the number one producer of winners in halter and performance for many years. It was not unusual to go to a show with 25 horses entered in one class, and 80 percent of them were sired by him or a daughter of his or by a son of his. He changed our lives—we were no longer Robert and Dixie—we were introduced as Psyche’s owners. Through him we met wonderful breeders that became friends, and we traveled the world visiting his offspring.

Padrons Psyche had a major impact on the Arabian horse world. What do you think his biggest contribution was?

Producing outstanding show horses and great producing broodmares. Psyche produced some of the finest stallions and the broodmares were sought out by breeders everywhere.

Breeding and raising horses isn’t as easy as it looks in the movies. Tell us what it takes to successfully run an Arabian horse breeding facility.

Good help! We’ve been fortunate to have had excellent, dedicated help over the years. We rely more and more on them as we grow older. Everyone on the farm today has been with us for over 14 years, some longer. When foals were born, I did it alone for the first 10 years. Of course in the early 70’s I did everything alone and loved it. Robert would work long hours and the horses kept me busy. When Robert retired in 2000, we bought Psyche. So Robert spent the last 22 years heavily involved—he loves the horses and the business. That’s when we bought this lovely 350 acre farm and hired eight employees. We had a resident vet, a breeding manager, an office and barn manager, stall cleaners, and a maintenance professional. Managing a farm with major stallions brought tons of visitors from around the world—so we entertained a lot.

To find the Arabian horse of your dreams or to learn more about the North Arabians ranch, visit www.agentranch.com

There have been a lot of ups and downs—watching champions be born, losing a beloved horse, handling 120 horses at a time, vet visits, farrier visits, cleaning, billing—overall it’s the joy of creating a new superstar that kept us going.

What do you love most about what you do?

Seeing the horses on green pastures. I’ve dreamed of that since I was eight-years-old—seeing mares and babies in a natural environment. And enjoying the friends we’ve made over the years through the horses.

Let’s talk a little about the ranch. I’ve heard there’s some history to it. Enlighten us.

This was the Rotanzi ranch and was in the same family from the late 1800’s until we bought it in 2000. It used to be a stagecoach stop in the late 1800’s. On the property is a small house that was where the stagecoach stopped, a blacksmith shop, a one-room schoolhouse, and the original dwelling dating back to 1890, plus another house dating back to 1910. When we bought it, we built housing for employees, our own home, as well as barns and fences, roads, and underground electricity. The land is home to bobcats, coyotes, turkey, raccoons, deer, cows and an occasional mountain lion—not to mention millions of ground squirrels.

You’ve been in the Arabian horse game for quite some time. Can you share some memorable moments that stand out?

Of course. 1973 when our first purebred foaled a filly—I was so excited. And then the wonder of legendary horsewoman and Arabian breeder Sheila Varian coming to see the filly and purchasing her. The day after Ever After was born and I knew immediately he was very special. Our first national champion in 1978. The day Padrons Psyche walked off the 12 horse trailer we hired to transport him from Minnesota into our brand new barn built just for him. The day our book about Padrons Psyche was published and we finally held it in our hands. Our lifetime Achievement Award from the AHBA at the Arabian Breeder’s Cup in Las Vegas in 2016. And most recently, our Lifetime Achievement Award presented in Brazil in 2019.

What does your perfect day on the North Arabians ranch look like?

To have mares and foals in the pastures and visitors come to experience them. We feel so proud that we’ve had such wonderful horses here to share with other horse lovers.

Home Grown: Buttonwood Farms Delivers a Wine Experience that Elevates the Whole Body

It’s well known that Buttonwood Farms creates some of Santa Barbara County’s most exceptional wines. But it’s not just what the team at Buttonwood puts into the bottle that differentiates the vineyard from everyone else—it’s the environment and atmosphere in which the grapes are grown, harvested, and masterfully presented to the world that makes a Buttonwood wine a whole-body experience.

122

They say when you open a bottle of wine you connect with the soil, the earth, and the hands that brought the grapes from vine to palette. But to head north on the 101, arrive at the sprawling Buttonwood farm, and experience the land, peach orchards, and pastoral hillside views with a bottle of their finest Cabernet is something more than an excursion —it’s spiritual discovery. Buttonwood Farms is a living, breathing world of verdant earth adorned with some of the most magnificent flora in the Santa Ynez Valley, all living together in harmony to create an environment that builds a symbiotic relationship between nature and human.

For the Gleason family, proprietors of Buttonwood Farms, these 39 acres of sprawling vineyard and farmland aren’t just for the cultivation of grapes—they exist to connect heaven and earth.

As you set foot on the Buttonwood property, it’s as if time not only stops, it travels backwards. It’s difficult to put into words the simplistic, understated beauty of the property—the way the breeze flitters through your hair, the sound of rustling peaches dangling from trees, the faint lilt of laughter—friends and family enjoying life and their time together.

The vineyard, nestled on a sun-soaked hillside overlooking the tasting room and Santa Ynez Valley, features an array of Bordeaux style varietals including, semillon sauvignon blanc, malbec, and cabernet sauvignon as well as some exquisite Rhone varietals— syrah, grenache noir, and viognier.

In addition to their exceptional grapes, Buttonwood harvests sustainably farmed herbs, vegetables, and peppers used by local chefs to elevate their seasonal menus and dazzle taste buds across the county.

When we say Buttonwood Farms delivers a whole-body experience, we mean it.

Elevated took a road trip up north to Buttonwood Farms to get a taste of the Santa Barbara County vineyard lifestyle and dive-in to all things wine and nature.

Let’s start with a 40,000-foot question—what makes Buttonwood wines and the Buttonwood farm so unique?

Buttonwood is a secret garden in the middle of the Santa Ynez Valley featuring lush grounds, orchards, and vineyards. Almost all our wines are estate grown, and we hand harvest and sustainably farm our vineyards and produce. Our wines, property, and staff are authentic and approachable. It’s a place where everyone belongs and all are welcome!

At Buttonwood, it’s not just about producing some of Santa Barbara County’s finest grapes, it’s also about being stewards of the land. Tell us about the Buttonwood vision from an environmental standpoint.

Our vision for the future of environmental stewardship is still very much influenced by our original owner, Betty Williams’, commitment to community, organic farming practices, and improvement of the land over time. We’re working to continue in her footsteps and consider ourselves stewards of the land. We cultivate organic soil health, and we also cultivate our community. We have a great selection of fruiting trees, including our famous peaches with over 17 cultivars that visitors come from all around to enjoy. Also, cover crops and crop rotation are in the works with a possible future of integrated animal systems to help close the loop as well.

What wines are you particularly excited about this summer?

Our summer hits include our award-winning rosés and sauvignon blancs. Both are perfect for hot summer days and pair great with light fare, seafood, and summer BBQ.

Here in California, we don’t need an excuse to open a bottle— but, we all know the right bottle can take a meal to the next level and vice versa. Any Buttonwood bottles a must-try with a certain culinary offering?

Buttonwood wines are made to be paired with food! We include recipes and pairing suggestions with each new release and wine club shipment.

Let’s talk Buttonwood peaches. I’ve had them, I’ve obsessed over them—and I even get a hint of it in your world-class sauvignon blanc—but that could just be me. Tell us how the famous Buttonwood peaches integrate with the land and the wines.

Well, you aren’t alone in your obsession over Buttonwood peaches—they do perhaps have a little bit of magic in them. Our orchard is special and is planted like the spokes of a wheel. Our peaches have been organic since they were planted over 20 years ago, and they are pruned and picked with care.

Hop-On is your hop infused white wine—we have to know about the inspiration behind that.

Hop-On is infused with hops after fermentation to create piney, herbaceous, and floral notes. Our winemaker at the time was from a family of brewers. She wanted to produce a wine that had IPA-inspired tonalities in its profile without the traditional pungent beer flavor. We grow several different hops on the property including Chinook, Cascade, Crystal and Citra, so it seemed like a natural progression.

Any upcoming “can’t miss” events happening at Buttonwood Farm?

We love community and we’re always offering events and adding elements to our wine tastings. This summer we have “Summer Sundays” featuring local musicians. Beginning mid-fall we will add a farm-to-table food program on the weekends. We look forward to adding more Buttonwood events throughout the year.

Buttonwood offers one of the best wine club memberships in Santa Barbara Wine Country—what’s in the latest shipment?

We do! Guests have the option to choose four, six, or 12 bottle shipments and always receive 20% off wine purchases. Our next shipment is this September and will include our 2018 Merlot, 2018 Pinot Noir, 2021 Signature Blend SB, 2021 Chardonnay and Winemakers Select 2020 Grenache.

Tell us about all the other Buttonwood farm products visitors can enjoy.

We have a wonderful Buttonwood Farm Shop featuring Buttonwood Peach Jam, sorbet, pies, shrubs, soy candles, pickling kits, handmade local soaps, Buttonwood hats, sweatshirts, and tee shirts!

You’ve got a perfect summer’s day off and are built with a hollow leg. What bottles are you enjoying and where are you enjoying them?

Either the Grenache Rosé on a boat or the Cabernet Franc at Sundown BBQ.

Elevated Builder Spotlight

Reimagining O.C.—Forever.

How Julie Laughton Design Build Creates Timeless Pieces of Architectural Art

For over thirty years, Julie Laughton has been building some of Coastal Orange County’s most prized homes and interiors. Equipped with an unmatched eye for design, a rich history in construction, and…a contractor’s license, Julie offers clients a seamless top-to-bottom, start-to-finish approach that combines dynamic artistic flair with pragmatic building concepts to create remarkable spaces that elevate the mind and body. The result: an architectural masterpiece that connects on an emotional, physical, and spiritual level—and jealous guests.

For Julie, designing one-of-a-kind conversation-starting spaces has long been a part of her day-to-day. She began drafting as a teenager, studied architecture and landscaping in college, and before too long was designing kitchens for clients in Southern California. From there, the next step was obvious, at least to Julie— become a contractor so she could not only imagine interior and exterior design concepts, but also build them.

It’s rare that you come across a mind and personality like Julie’s in the building community—vivacious, entertaining, tough, forward thinking, and—completely artsy.

You see, for Julie, it’s not just about building something that combines luxury, function, and environment into the scope of design—it’s about building something unique to each client’s personality. And that ability comes from her willingness and freedom to explore the unknown, to take what she’s already done and build from it, and to constantly evolve and take the chances most builders either won’t take or don’t know how to execute.

For Julie, it’s not just about piecing together a kitchen with Calacatta countertops, a farmhouse sink, and a multipurpose island—it’s about every inch of a home coming together in artistic and emotional harmony. It’s about creating a space that brings joy to the heart, stimulates the mind, and makes each day better than the last. It’s about evoking a sense of pride of ownership that lasts a lifetime.

The team at Julie Laughton Design Build isn’t just about building a home, or a kitchen, or a new primary suite bath— they’re about building a new reality.

Elevated sat down with Julie to catch-up and dive-in on her own reality—which, as you can imagine, is quite interesting.

Lets start granular—what inspires you to wake up each morning and design and build homes?

I love building homes and overseeing the entire process to make sure they’re done right the first time for each and every client. The very first day I walk into a client’s home I can see what needs to be fixed and updated, as well as what can and can’t be done. My goal is to get the homeowner’s dreams on paper and execute a seamless process from the conception of design to the completion of the construction. I provide a turnkey, one-stop shop experience where the client only talks to one person while I coordinate and oversee all the aspects with my amazing tried-and-true team.

Working your way up to becoming one of California’s top design/build companies doesn’t just happen out of nowhere. Tell us about your vision and what defined you early on.

My career started in New York City working for the top five developers in Manhattan. From the very beginning, my favorite part of the process was taking the plans and standing in the dirt, making sure things worked out. Everything I do today on a daily basis is what I learned and perfected during my early career working in New York City for the best of the best. Bringing that professional, corporate, highly organized experience to residential construction is what it was all about for me when I began my own business.

You specialize in coastal masterpieces. How do you create homes and spaces that connect homeowners with their environment on an emotional level?

I start by interviewing the client to find out what they want and what they need. I always make sure the home matches their lifestyle, and choose a design concept that appeals to them and complements the architecture. Everything from the paint colors, to the textures, to the natural lighting affects the homeowner’s emotional response while they’re living in their home. As you know, your home is your castle—where you go to retreat, recharge, and spend time with family and friends.

Building a sanctuary that reflects how you live creates a space that grows with you over time. My designs are timeless—not trendy. So when the home is finished, there’s nothing left to do other than maintenance and upkeep.

Obviously, architectural style, materials, and exterior/interior design has changed over the years. Tell us what design elements will not only add value to today’s homes, but will also remain timeless.

My first recommendation is to always use quality building materials that will last. I like to do a lot of custom features when designing a home. My custom kitchens are made by local craftsmen and this ensures the highest quality, which results a lasting product. I prefer to use natural wood and stone products for their durability and beauty.

I’ve recently chosen porcelain and quartz countertops for my clients who desire virtually zero maintenance. Natural stones are timeless, but require a little more maintenance. The natural beauty of the products we select is what makes each and every home unique—just like every client is unique.

Building a home in Coastal Orange County is completely different today than it was five or even ten years ago. Tell us how you’ve been able to enhance the client experience.

As a one-stop shop, I provide a 5-Star concierge service that buffers the client from the behind the scenes work it actually takes to get the job done. Living along the coastline surrounded by multimillion dollar homes comes with plenty of restrictions and challenges that other inland cities don’t

134

have and this makes for unique conditions on every job. If you aren’t used to working in these areas, it’s difficult to jump over the hurdles. My thirty years of experience and unique personality have empowered me to perfect this process and provide a stress-free experience for all my clients.

Everyone talks about the downside of building your own home—the time, the selection of materials, etc. But you’re known to create an uplifting and empowering experience for your clients throughout the process. So, what’s the secret to happily building a home?

The secret is working with the right person and the right team. If you don’t follow the steps and work with the right people, you’ll most likely end up in a nightmare remodel scenario, especially if you choose to manage the project

yourself. I like doing things right the first time and giving my clients the help they deserve and expect, which allows me to ensure they’ll have a 5-Star experience.

Too much access to information means too much worry. So, let’s face this question head-on—How has the supply shortage affected building and how have you been able to help your clients successfully navigate the process?

We haven’t been affected by the supply shortage because we plan ahead and order everything we need the day the job starts. I also don’t order things that aren’t available. There are always other options, and waiting twelve weeks for an appliance isn’t an issue if you order it the day the job starts— that’s what separates our team from everyone else. We work with you from the beginning so there aren’t any problems.

Let’s discuss a million-year long debate—which space/room in the home is the most important and why?

The kitchen because it’s the heart of the home and where everything happens. It’s where we cook, dine, entertain family and friends, and have serious conversations. And today, thanks to new open floor plans, the kitchen is combined with the family room and all the activities happen in the same area. The kitchen and the living room are typically adjacent to the outdoor living space and this becomes one huge area where all activities happen together.

31342 TRIGO TRAIL 140
PICKLEBALL NEWPORT BEACH
142

1. The Club has a long history. What drew you to the location and what makes it one of the finest tennis and pickleball venues in the nation?

A: As I was searching for a new home for over 200 of my players, it was not only important that I find a location that could accommodate the size of my program but it was equally as important to me that I find a location with a strong sense of community. When I came across The Tennis Club at Newport Beach, I learned of its rich history as a tennis facility and I fell in love with the residents of Newport Beach. While the club was in major need of some TLC and had a declining membership of less than 100 individuals, I knew I could reinvigorate the club that was once deemed THE most prestigious tennis facility in Orange County while creating a place that the members and community would be proud of.

Since my acquisition of the club in 2014, we have modernized the facility with the addition of a new clubhouse, fully repaired and resurfaced courts, along with a rare European red clay court and a world class pickleball facility with 31 courts, customized fencing and premiere LED lighting. We continue to invest in the grounds to maintain the charm of the original club that the residents of Newport Beach reminisce of. My biggest personal accomplishment within this club is the creation of a facility where junior players can learn to love the sport. Young players that have the desire to play at the collegiate or professional level, have access to world class training that is imperative to reaching those goals.

2. Tennis has certainly changed over the years. But Pickleball, although not new, is gaining serious attention in the active community. What makes The Tennis and Pickleball Club at Newport Beach the go-to Pickleball destination in the Country?

A: Coming from tennis, I entered the pickleball world as a skeptic but I did my research and spoke to key people to understand the sport and it’s growth and with that I said we’ve gotta give this a shot! As I planned out the addition of pickleball to the club, it was important to me that it be done with the same vision and passion as I had when

building the tennis facility, and I was determined to make it the best. Since the conversion of our first tennis court to pickleball courts, we have been continuously growing and improving our facility. We now have 31 dedicated pickleball courts and some multi-purpose courts which allows us to add courts for larger events. We have a world class stadium court where we have showcased the top tennis and Pickleball players in the world. Our Pickleball community is the most supportive and positive group of people I have had the pleasure of being around. I have visiting pros tell me all the time that our members make their trip to our facility so special.

Outside of the facility itself our location, right off of the PCH in Newport is home to premiere lodging, famous restaurants, unique activities and the most amazing weather in the world with an international airport less than 10 minutes away.

3. As a long-time tennis coach and the son of Hall of Fame tennis coach, Nick Bollettieri, you know the game of tennis like the back of your (back)hand. So, why pickleball!?

A: First, I have to say that I am honored and beyond grateful to have Nick in my life. I’m not his biological or his legally adopted son per say. But we have a father son relationship since I was a kid. I have called him my “father”, “dad”, and the supportive male figure I needed since I was a young boy. Even when my own father wasn’t supportive of my tennis ambitions, I always turned to Nick for love, support & guidance. What he has done for me personally, for the game of tennis, and the many athletes whose lives he touched, is nothing short of iconic. Nick to me and most, is a Legend— how he pumped talent and energy into tennis I can only hope to one day do for pickleball. If I can change people’s lives for the better, give them hope, lead them to success and reach their potential in this sport, I would love that. Many have said pickleball has saved their lives especially during the pandemic. Perhaps one day I can be part of that sentiment: to be known for helping people with their mental and physical well being through this wonderful game of pickleball.

4. You recently acquired the facility you’ve been leasing for some years in Coto de Caza. Tell us what members and visitors can expect.

A: The future of that project is also contingent on the future of the club in Newport. Therefore, at this time it would be premature to share what will be coming. Coto has been used for our UTR Tennis tournaments, and our members in Newport have a membership in Coto at no additional cost. What I can tell you is that it will be another world class club like Newport serving another great community.

I’ve had the honor over the last 7 years to work night and day to build our coveted club in Newport. It’s no exaggeration to say I put my heart and soul into making Newport an epicenter for many to come and enjoy. My children started as babies and are now young kids enjoying both sports of tennis & pickleball. I will replicate that same energy and work to make Coto a success, it is a dream come true for me. I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity.

5. Where do you think the future of SoCal tennis and pickleball is headed?

A: SoCal has been notorious in developing great athletes in all

sports due to our great weather and dynamic sports facilities. Florida historically has always developed the most tennis professionals, yet California always had its share of champions such as Michael Cheng, Tracy Austen, Pete Sampras, and of course our Newport Beach native Lindsey Davenport.

Pickleball is an all-American sport and has yet to become international. Texas is the center of our nation, therefore Texas, specifically Dreamland Pickleball facility near Austin, is where a number of pickleball pros are training out of, and the second place is Florida. California has its share of players including our very own pickleball star Parris Todd who not only trained in tennis at our club since a junior, but also developed her professional pickleball career. I am thrilled to represent her as part of her management team and can’t see where the future takes her.

6. Tell us some of the perks The Tennis and Pickleball Club at Newport Beach members can enjoy.

A: The biggest perk of membership at our club is being exposed to the energy the community exudes. When I walk through the gates of the club each morning I see both tennis and pickleball members who are smiling, socializing, and exercising. When we have tournaments at the club I see our club supporting their fellow members and cheering the competition on as well. It makes me so proud to hear people say they love coming to our club because it is so positive. It doesn’t get any better than that!

7. You obviously had a distinct vision for what The Tennis Club at Newport Beach would look like and feel like. Tell us where you drew your inspiration from?

A: Thirty years ago, when I was barely an adult, I was given a chance to operate a small private tennis facility with a pro shop, fitness room, and pool. At that time my wish was to bring a Florida style full-service tennis academy to the west coast. Within the first few years I integrated and mixed a primarily adult private club setting with an academy concept, which became the first full-service tennis academy in the

west coast. That led to opening multiple other private facilities with similar concepts, each of them being very different depending on the community and culture presented in that city. Newport Beach allowed me to once again integrate a high performance culture with a private club setting. I think we have done it better than anyone, but I will warn others that it is not easy. It takes a lot of organization, passion, and tenacity. This was all possible because of the inspiration and guidance that I got from the person who has been the father figure in my life, Nick Bollettieri.

8. What are some of your favorite memories over the past seven years of owning The Tennis and Pickleball Club at Newport Beach?

A: It has been 8 years! Without a doubt it would be the first day when I received the keys for the club. It gave me the opportunity to build something from scratch in the best city on the planet. Bringing Universal Tennis (UTR) tournaments to our club has allowed us to build the biggest virtual tennis club in the world serving thousands of youngsters and pros around the world who refer to our club being their home away from home. It has become their choice for finding great competition and being noticed by college coaches. Finally, growing our pickleball membership and community to what it is today.

Attaining Starrdom: How Shelley Starr of Shelley Starr Interior Design Creates Environments That Inspire Elevated Design Spotlight
146

Inspiration presents itself to all of us in many different forms. Chance encounters with a stranger. A book found at an abandoned subway stop. A rose budding right before your eyes in an unexpected June thunderstorm. And of course, staring at someone else’s furniture.

For Shelley Starr, the latter is the inspiration behind her iconic interior design firm, Shelley Starr Interior Design—and thankfully, she took notice.

We can all trace the lines that brought us to where we are today— the good decisions, the unwise choices, the relationships, the sights, sounds, travels—they all come together to generate what we call “moments of inspiration.” And it’s through these moments that we find what defines us spiritually and professionally.

Shelley’s love of furniture created her own moment of inspiration. And from that moment onward, she set out to do one thing—create environments and furnishings that speak to us with a resounding cosmic vibration. As a lifelong host who thrives on curating sensational soirees, and a venerated designer who lives life outside the frame, Shelley Starr consistently reimagines what is functional, what is luxury, what is beautiful, and what is the future of “space.”

Having worked with several high-profile celebrities, entrepreneurs, and notable personalities, Shelley has enjoyed the freedom to create inspired environments across the globe while utilizing her experience, intuition, and soul to inject life, love, warmth, and art into the homes and hearts of her clients.

There are those who imagine—and there are those who take imagination and turn it into a new reality. Shelley Starr is an interior design juggernaut that refuses to succumb to trends. Instead, she builds spaces that nurture thought—spaces that communicate.

Elevated popped into Shelley’s latest tour de force design project to gain some insight on what’s new in design, and what it means to be inspired.

You’ve been turning homes into masterpieces for over twenty years. How did you get started in interior design? I actually started my career as a product designer. I was obsessed with the processes involved with running factories and the production of furniture. Through this, I learned a great deal about construction, spatial planning, how essential product scale is, utilizing multiple materials and, of course, product development. So how did this evolve into Interior Design? I love to entertain and have spent my entire adulthood hosting parties. My friends and guests often told me that I had a lovely eye for design and attention to detail. As most circuitous stories unfold, my design firm and career then began when an amazing client took a chance and asked me to design their two-story penthouse in Soho, Manhattan. The rest is history and now I enjoy a career that I’m incredibly proud of.

Obviously interior design trends change from year to year, decade to decade, and generation to generation. What constants have you seen throughout your career? Consistency, integrity, quality craftsmanship, and thoughtful attention to classic or timeless design concepts, and most importantly—a deep sense of ownership, pride, and responsibility when it comes pulling together the thousands of details my clients request, while realizing their specific vision and needs.

Indoor/outdoor living is all the rage these days. How do you seamlessly combine indoor and outdoor aesthetics from a geographical standpoint? You are correct! In the past few years we’ve seen many families reprioritize how they experience their home, and enjoy the amenities they provide for their family and friends. When I’m designing, I’m always looking for the common thread that links my interior rooms to one another—yet each room must have its individual characteristics. And then, I explore how this thread connects to the exterior living area. Once I have the design concepts drafted, then it becomes about extraordinary materials that are not only beautiful and functional, but also user friendly and sustainable.

You like to take design to the next level by utilizing a combination of exotic and outside-the-box materials including reclaimed wood, leather, and...horsehair. What materials are you in love with right now for kitchens, baths, and living spaces?

Oh my gosh…this is a difficult one. I’m obsessed with so many different materials. I’m always collecting materials and stones and sticking them to walls while I wait for the perfect room or project to use them in. One little secret—I’m known for always honing and/or leathering all stones I work with. I would like to give a shout-out to Ann Sacks for their incredible selection these days. Sky’s the limit when I hit one of their thoughtful showrooms. I’m also in love with a lot of David Sutterland exterior materials and I often use them for interior product.

You’re unique in that you offer clients a product design element. What are some of your favorite pieces you’ve dreamed up recently? That’s tough— it takes a great deal of time and energy to create each and every custom piece. I recently designed the most spectacular modular seating unit for a massive living room and a lighting installation for a fivestory apartment building in Manhattan that’s moved into first and second place in my heart. I wanted to go big and unique, and luckily, I have amazing clients that chose to trust my vision. I’m beyond excited to photograph this room and post the photos. I’m also crazy for extremely thoughtful cabinet designs. I love thinking outside the box and creating the endless details that people ignore or forget to address, until the cabinets have been completed, and they’re left scratching their heads thinking “Wish I had thought of that.”

You’ve stamped your name on quite a few homes over your career—can you name a couple favorites and what their defining elements were? Another tough one—because I personally evolve and push my creative perspective on each project!

My first would be an amazing penthouse for a high-profile client in Manhattan. I worked with a company out of Germany designing what I like to refer to as a “functional artful lighting installation”—handmade crystal butterflies in a multitude of crystal colors. It’s spectacular!

I have a project I’m currently working on in Calabasas and I must say, the bar I designed, and the hand-cut marble pieces I used on the back wall take my breath away each and every time I look at it. Honestly, I’m obsessed with the whole home and what my clients and I have achieved together.

In Malibu, I created custom-made bronze entry doors as well as a reclaimed wood ceiling from old barns across America. The whole home turned out spectacular.

And in Encino, I have a project still under construction, but I think I can retire after it’s complete. I’m beyond proud of each and every detail I have thought of when it comes to renovating this home for my dear clients.

You have a blank slate and a blank check. What’s the first thing you do to take your home to the next level?

Hahaaaa….I love this question. First, I would create a kitchen that Mario Batali would envy and beg to hang out with me in. Where he would choose to sit back and marvel at my attention to detail, all while I cook him one of my signature dishes! Then, I would design my closet in a manner that would make Carrie Bradshaw fall to her knees and beg me to allow her to shoot one more movie in which she solely hangs out in my closet! Finally, I would build a private spa that all my closest friends beg to hang out with me in and I would relax daily in my favorite bikini and robe!

You’ve traveled around the world masterfully curating jawdropping homes—so, where’s your dream home and what defines it?

Capri, Italy. A cozy kitchen, Mario stopping-in regularly to tell me how awesome I am. A lovely garden and an intimate pool. Fabulous bedding, great towels and lots of exterior seating for the endless stream of guests that I would receive. This will be my heaven one day!

Lido House Hotel Enters into Summer with All-New Culinary Programming

Executive Chef-Partner Riley Huddleston Introduces Reinvigorated Menus at Topside Roof Deck & Mayor’s Table

158

Lido House, Marriott’s boutique Autograph Collection hotel nestled on the Balboa Peninsula, enters into summer with all-new culinary programming. To celebrate their busiest season, Executive ChefPartner Riley Huddleston has introduced a reinvigorated culinary program, complete with new menus across each of the boutique hotel’s dining outlets, including The Mayor’s Table, Topside Roof Deck, Crew Coffee & Cremerie, and its pool.

“Our mission here at Lido House is to create an experience exactly like nothing else. That ethos transcends into everything we do here, especially our food and beverage programs,” comments Huddleston, who brings more than a decade of experience to the kitchens at Lido House. “Using the ever-changing availability of seasonal ingredients to our advantage, our one-of-a-kind dishes and drinks offer a creative tribute to summertime in coastal California.”

At Mayor’s Table, named for its location at the former site of the city’s town hall, Huddleston highlights the vibrant flavors of seasonal ingredients. Offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, the menus for summer showcase seasonality through artfully plated dishes. Lunchtime offerings draw inspiration from around the globe with starters like Sea Bass Ceviche with watermelon radish and halved tomatoes topped with Yuzu dressing and Wagyu Bao Buns with pickled onions and ponzu butter. Dinner selections showcase elegant starters like Hamachi Crudo with a mosaic of strawberry, avocado, and spring radish with white soy vinaigrette, and elevated mains like Maine Lobster Pasta with house-made orecchiette made with activated charcoal and fresh lobster. Guests can embark on a culinary journey with “Dine Like a Mayor,” a prix-fixe menu featuring Huddleston’s daily selection of starters, entrees, and dessert. Weekend Brunch offers “Wow” items like the Kachapurri with cheese, ham, and poached eggs, and the Large Dutch Oven Pancake served with rotating seasonal toppings.

Huddleston’s Kitchen Cocktails program, which features a rotation of three meticulously crafted cocktails each season, earned Mayor’s Table a nod from Tales of the Cocktail in their 2022 Spirited Awards® as a Regional Top 10 Honoree for Best US Hotel Bar – West. These seasonal cocktails mirror the ethos of the kitchen and are crafted with the same artistry and attention to detail as the restaurant’s most illustrious dishes.

As Newport Beach’s only rooftop bar, Topside Roof Deck is a beacon for local sunset-seekers and travelers alike. Boasting panoramic views of Newport’s peninsula, marina, and beaches, Topside is a community hotspot offering guests a selection of hand-crafted cocktails, small bites, and premium Champagnes, including its namesake Signature Lido House Cuvée, a one-of-a-kind collaboration with French Champagne House, Piper Heidsieck. In addition to its popular Topside Margarita presented with a seasonal popsicle, guests can look forward to a new menu of elevated summertime libations, including Beach Day, a visually striking, bright blue superfood-infused cocktail; Summer Lovin’, a strawberry-infused vodka cocktail with notes of rose and bergamot topped with kiwi pearls; and The Jungle a robust cocktail that brings into balance the sweetness of reposado tequila with roasted banana.

Inspired additions to Lido House’s boutique cafe, Crew Coffee + Cremerie, include the Chagaccino, an antioxidantrich mushroom latte; Strawberries & Cream, an iced

espresso beverage crafted with house-made strawberry milk; and a selection of Bubble Milk Coffee made with espresso-soaked tapioca pearls. The Lido House Pool is the perfect locale for guests to lounge and luxuriate with a cocktail in hand. Its summer menu of poolside bites includes hearty options like the “Award-Winning” Burger made with wagyu beef to a refreshing Grilled Steak Salad served with a creamy chimichurri dressing. Over-the-top cocktails include sorbet-based margarita flights and orangesicle mimosas.

Lido House Hotel is located on the Newport Beach Peninsula (3300 Newport Blvd). The Mayor’s Table is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with brunch served on the weekends. Topside is open Wednesday - Sunday.

About Lido House Debuted as an Autograph Collection hotel in April 2018, Lido House is designed with an effortless sense of style and a definitive beach house vibe. The hotel is Newport Beach’s favorite guest house for locals and out-of-town visitors. The property features 130 guest rooms, including one presidential suite, several executive suites, and five custom-designed threestory cottages. Ideally situated among the city’s marina, beach, and retail hub, the stylish coastal retreat will be located in the heart of Newport Beach, just steps away from Lido Marina Village. The property features The Mayor’s Table, a full-service restaurant, along with Topside, the first rooftop bar in Newport Beach. Vanessa is an Adaptive Bike recipient as part of Variety’s Mobility Program “We have no words to express how grateful we are to Variety of SoCal! Vanessa has always enjoyed a tricycle at a young age. Back then she could not peddle but just enjoyed being on one. Now that she has outgrown any tricycle out in the market, we were sad for her and had no idea what we can do for her. The smile on her face tells it all and our hearts are full of joy. Thank you to everyone that helped contribute to Vanessa's joy. It will help her tremendously with her core, balance and much more.”

Poker Night:

Despite an incredibly challenging 24 months where the Charity had almost zero in-person fundraising due to the pandemic, in Fiscal Years 2020 and 2021 Variety of Southern CA still managed to give away over $950,000 dollars in grants to organizations which support abused, underprivileged, disabled and emotionally challenged children in Southern California. They are looking forward to resuming their tentpole fundraisers like the Annual Poker and Casino Night to get back to pre-pandemic grant giving for kids in our community who need help more than ever.

On Wednesday July 27th, Poker Night is BACK after a two year covid hiatus!! This is our 10th year and we are hoping to make it the biggest and best yet!! We are back again at the gorgeous Paramount Studios Lot for a high energy evening with over 300 studio executives, corporate partners and industry colleagues to

enjoy great food and Vegas-style game play – all in a beautiful outdoor setting under the Hollywood stars. We appreciate your support – thank you for your consideration.

Founded in 1941, Variety the Children's Charity of Southern California is dedicated to inspiring hope, enriching lives and building a better future for the children of Southern California. Variety SoCal is one of the leading chapters of Variety International – The Children’s Charity. Variety awards over three quarters of a million dollars annually to organizations that serve Southern California children in the areas of Health Care, Education and Mobility. Variety is also a major supporter of the Variety Boys and Girls Club of Boyle Heights. The money raised in Southern California stays here in our community – and Variety personally visits every organization it supports to ensure that every donation helps the most amount of children where the need is greatest.

Variety’s Education Grants provide underprivileged children and at-risk youth the programs necessary to pursue their education and dreams and overcome the barriers of poverty, poor performing schools and high levels of unemployment. Education grants fund early literacy programs, college scholarships, homework assistance, college prep, career readiness, art, music, science and technology workshops, sports and gang prevention counseling.

Variety’s Health Care Grants support early intervention programs for kids with learning disabilities; medical care and therapy for children who are victims of abuse and neglect, and help for kids and families facing homelessness. Variety sends hundreds of kids battling life-threatening illnesses to camp – to give them a break from the pain and chaos of

Variety’s Mobility Program provides confidence, freedom, and much-needed therapeutic exercise to children with disabilities by providing specially-designed adaptive bikes. Many of these children cannot walk on their own, so when they receive a bike specially designed for their needs, they experience the pure joy of riding a bike like any other kid. These adaptive bikes are not covered by insurance and out of reach financially for most families.

Since 1949, the Variety Boys & Girls Club has responded to the needs of children in the Boyle Heights/ East Los Angeles community by offering leadership development programs, tutoring and mentoring, sports and aquatics programs, art programs, a computer learning center and library and college scholarships. The Club is a safe haven where our children are provided the support they need to make their dreams a reality.

LAURA’S HOUSE

Dedicated to domestic violence prevention and education, Laura’s House is a Southern California nonprofit organization that has served those whose lives have been affected by domestic and family violence for more than 28 years. The mission of Laura’s House is to change the social beliefs, attitudes and behaviors that perpetuate domestic violence while creating a safe space to empower individuals and families affected by abuse. Laura’s House has provided emergency shelter, transitional living and support services to more than 6,500 abused women, men and children and counseling; life skills education and legal assistance to nearly 72,000 people.

In 2021, the nonprofit opened the first multi-service collaborative focused on holistic domestic violencerelated services in Orange County. The new Domestic Violence Resource center, a 19,000-square-foot building in Aliso Viejo, is four times larger than their previous office space in Ladera Ranch. The space has allowed for more preventive services including counseling and resources, children’s therapeutic services, legal advocacy, community outreach, prevention and education. It also provided much-needed space for future expansion of nonresidential programming and enables them to continue offering critical and foundational services to best serve domestic violence survivors in South Orange County. The establishment wouldn’t have been possible without donor contributions or their “Power of the Journey” capital campaign which is in the home stretch and currently stands at $5.7 million of the $10 million goal raised.
