Dear Reader, All throughout the year, the publications of Mediterraneum Editions keep you up to date with news in the region and the many various events and festivities on the Côte d'Azur.

However, you can understand why I have a particular interest in, and bias towards, the September issue as it dedicates a special supplement to the Monaco Yacht Show* each year.

For four days, the Principality becomes the focus of the international luxury yachting sector, with 500 companies involved in this prestigious business participation, alongside a hundred super and megayachts on the water, including the most spectacular of the year's new launches.

As you will discover again this year, the Monaco Yacht Show remains a unique event on a global level. For its 22nd

edition, some 30,000 participants are expected as professionals in the sector and an ultra-wealthy clientele will be coming to meet the leading superyacht shipyards, the biggest naval architect firms, yacht brokers and charterers, and the suppliers offering their latest premium products and services for yachting.

New for 2012 is the Upper Deck Lounge. This superb 650m² space, with interior design by one of the major luxury brands, is in the heart of the show and welcomes exhibitors and visitors to its meeting areas, champagne bar and official MYS restaurant.

This zone will also host the MYS 2012's official sponsors, the German car manufacturer BMW and Swiss watchmaker Ulysse Nardin.

More than ever, the 22nd Monaco Yacht Show promises to be another fantastic event.

We look forward to seeing all those of you who are passionate about luxury

yachting from 19th to 22nd September on the quays of Port Hercule in Monaco.

Sicher verstehen Sie jedoch, dass ich mich immer besonders auf die SeptemberAusgaben freue, da diese jedes Jahr ein Special über die Monaco Yacht Show* beinhalten.

Vier Tage lang wird das Fürstentum Monaco wieder zum internationalen Zentrum

der Yachtszene: mit 500 Unternehmen, die im Bereich der Luxusyachten tätig sind, und etwa hundert Super- und Megayachten, unter ihnen die neuesten und Aufsehen erregendsten Modelle. Wie Sie es auch dieses Jahr wieder entdecken können, ist und bleibt die Monaco Yacht Show ein weltweit einzigartiges Ereignis.

Zu der 22. Ausgabe werden 30 000 Teilnehmer erwartet – Experten der Branche und extrem wohlhabende PrivatKunden. Sie alle kommen nach Monaco, um sich mit den leitenden Werften von Luxusyachten auszutauschen oder Vertreter der großen Boots-Architekten, BrokerAgenturen, Yachten-Vermieter und -Ausstatter zu treffen, die neueste Produkte und hochwertige Service-Leistungen in der Nautikwelt vorstellen.

Ganz neu in diesem Jahr ist die Upper Deck Lounge: eine herrliche, 650 Quadratmeter umfassende Wohlfühlecke im Herzen der Messe, die von

Construction is booming Der Bootsbau boomt

A

fter a sharp drop in 2009, the French leisure and yachting business has recovered well. According to the Fédération des Industries Nautiques in Paris, the industry, including the manufacturing of boats, rose in France by 11 per cent between 2010 and 2011.

In total, 54,548 boats were built in the past year including 4,530 sailing boats and 19,294 motorboats, achieving a turnover of 901 million euros. Exports rose by a remarkable 67 percent and every second newly built boat is now exported.

Meanwhile, this success in the area of new builds is helping to push up the second-hand market, which grew by five percent.

It is all having a positive impact on the various boatrelated companies that operate in the Côte d'Azur.

Businesses in the conversion and repair fields have a strong presence here and under-

standably so. Boat buyers almost always request changes to the vessels.

A quarter of all boats in France is located in the ports of Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur (PACA). In the Alpes Maritimes alone, there are 33 harbours and within them are 17,450 boats and yachts.

The ports employ 3,671 fulltime employees and pull-in 1.2 billion euros annually.

There is no doubt this is a significant contributor to the local economy.

But something's missing.

Demand is high and supply is more or less stagnant.

The need for new or extended ports is being met with a lack of suitable land and opposition by environmentalists is inhibiting plans that are already in place. For example, rumours of collaboration between Saint Laurent du Var and Cagnes sur Mer remain remarkably quiet.

ach einem starken Einbruch 2009 hat sich das französische Sport boot- und Yachtgeschäft gut erholt. Die eigentliche Industrie, also der Boots- und Yachtbau, konnte in Frankreich von 2010 auf 2011 um elf Prozent zulegen, wie die Fédération des Industries Nautiques bekannt gegeben hat.

54 548 Boote wurden im vergangenen Jahr neu gebaut (darunter 4530 Segel- und 19 294 Motorboote) und damit ein Umsatz von 901 Millionen Euro erzielt. Der Export konnte um beachtliche 67 Prozent gesteigert werden.

Jedes zweite neue Boot wandert jetzt ins Ausland.

Der Markt für Neubauten treibt auch das Zweite-HandGeschäft. Es legte um fünf Prozent zu und gibt gerade den Unternehmen an der Côte d’Azur Impulse: Diese sind auf Grund des großen Marktes hier stark vertreten und arbeiten im Umrüstungsund Reparaturgeschäft: Ein

Ein Viertel aller Boote und Yachten Frankreichs liegt in den Häfen der Region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA), allein das Departement Alpes-Maritimes beherbergt in 33 Sportboot- und 6 Handelshäfen 17 450 Boote und Yachten. Letztere Häfen beschäftigen 3671 Vollzeitkräfte und setzen jährlich 1,2 Milliarden Euro um.

Alles in bester Ordnung?

Nein. Es fehlen Liegeplätze.

Die Nachfrage ist groß, das Angebot stagniert mehr oder minder. Neubauten oder Hafen-Erweiterungen kommen mangels geeigneten Geländes und des Einspruchs von Umweltschützern nicht immer voran. Letztes Beispiel: Um das angedachte Gemeinschftsprojekt SaintLaurent-du-Var und Cagnessur-Mer ist es auffallend ruhig geworden.

With royal blue indicator lights around the elegant 50m sailing yacht, 'Better Place' (Exhibitors: Wally) will be among motor yachts such as 'Far Away' (Canados) or 'Azimut Grande 100' (Azimut Yachts), both of which will be in extravagant silver. Among the largest yachts to be exhibited are the 73.5m 'Mogambo' (Nobiskrug), and the one metre shorter 'NB54' (Proteksan Turquoise Yachts Inc.) with its own on board spa and side balconies being the icing on the cake.

He had his premiere at the age of 13, and last month gave the first performance of a hymn he composed in Tuscany.

Meanwhile, his father wants to put the brakes on: "Two concerts a year is enough, I think," says Tonio Arcaini. "He already works 12 to 16 hours a day, but he should also enjoy his childhood."

Yacht show confirms the trend: there’s an upswing in the boating industry The Monaco Yacht Show 2012 was another huge success, achieving a record attendance of 33,000 and continuing a 20-year legacy that has solidified Monaco as the yacht capital of the world. Yachting companies, yacht owners, wealthy customers and representatives of future purchasers came to explore the 500 stands and more than 100 superyachts. Organisers say last year’s show signalled an upswing in the market, and this year confirmed that trend. Offshore, 120 superyachts were at anchor, directly linked by tenders to the exhibitors on the docks. Cocktail parties at the stands, press talks and onboard parties, gala dinners in Monte Carlo’s grand hotels: there were about 100 events this year. A record. Vorjahres-Trend bestätigt sich: Es geht wieder bergauf in der Branche Die Monaco Yacht Show 2012 und ihre 33 000 Teilnehmer bestätigten eindrucksvoll, was sich im Vorjahr sachte angekündigt hatte: Das Luxusyachten-Business nimmt langsam, aber sicher wieder Fahrt auf. Die Preise der High-End-Boote sind in den letzten vier Jahren deutlich gesunken.

Zusammen mit einer ungleich höheren Auswahl an Yachten bedeutete dies für die Messe eine absolut käuferfreundliche Konstellation. 103 Superyachten mit einer Durchschnittslänge von mehr als 46 Metern schaukelten vier Tage lang am Kai des Port Hercule, darunter sechs mit mehr als 70 Metern Länge und insgesamt 38 Marktneuheiten. 500 Stände boten Zubehör und Zusatzdienste, mehr als 100 Events rundeten die Show ab. Auch die RCZ war wie gewohnt präsent und konnte zahlreiche Leser und Partner an ihrem Stand begrüßen.

Der Tenor unter den Ausstellern hätte einhelliger nicht sein können: Wer in der Welt der Superyachten ein Wort mitreden will, kommt an der Monaco Yacht Show nicht vorbei.

Monaco: Heute startet im Fürstentum die „Monaco Yacht Show 2012“

Schau der Superyachten im Port Hercules Zahlreiche Attraktionen und Weltneuheiten sind vom 19. bis zum 22.

September auf der Monaco Yacht Show zu entdecken. Allein 73 Superyachten mit über 40 Metern Länge zeigen sich in voller Pracht, darunter so markante Exponate wie die "Nirvana" von Oceanco, die neuseeländische Designlegende "Vertigo" oder die jüngste Auslieferung der deutschen Nobiskrug Werft "Mogambo". Zum 13. Mal bereits ist der Verlag Mediterraneum Editions Pressepartner. RCZ-Leser haben die Gelegenheit, das Team am Stand QP 7 am Parvis Piscine zu treffen!

Die angekündigten Weltneuheiten auf der Monaco Yacht Show übertreffen sich von Jahr zu Jahr. Nicht unbedingt an Größe oder Länge doch sicher an Ideenreichtum.

So ist eine der Attraktionen dieser Tage im Fürstentum das Luxusboot "Nirvana" von Oceano. Auf der 88,5 Meter langen Yacht wird der Swimmingpool mittels einer ausziehbaren Abdeckung zur Tanzfläche.

Desweiteren verfügt das Gefährt über zwei Vivarien in denen ein Kamäleon, MYS 2012: 61 Prozent der ausgestellten Yachten Schildkröten sowie exotische Frösche und sind nicht älter als zwei Jahre Echsen leben. Auch die holländische Hampshire II ist an Extravaganz kaum zu übertreffen: Per Knopfdruck lässt sich der Hubschrauberlandeplatz in ein Fußball-, Tennisplatz oder Baseballfeld verwandeln. Ein rieisiges Netz sorgt dafür, dass die Bälle nicht über Bord gehen.

Insgesamt sind auf der diesjährigen Schau 85 Motor- und 18 Segelyachten zu sehen, die großteils aus niederländischen und italienischen Werften stammen. Ein umfangreiches Angebot an Zubehör und Dienstleistungen für die luxuriöse Lebensart wird ebenso geboten. Die größte Yacht in diesem Jahr ist ein Segler: Mit 90 Metern Länge und einer Segelfläche von 2.500 Quadratmetern ist Royal Huismans "Athena" eines der größten Segelboot der Welt. Sie bietet Platz für 12 Passagier und 22 Besatzungsmitgliedern.

Monaco Yacht Show a success The yachting event of the year took place in spectacular style with 100 luxury yachts assembled at Port Hercule. The 22nd Monaco Yacht Show has seen many firsts, including the Ipanema from Bavaria and an international influx like never before.

With a yacht club that boasts over 1,000 members from 56 nationalities, Monaco has become the international centre of yachting. This year's show put Monaco's global reputation into the limelight as the world's top 15 customised yacht builders exhibited their creations on the famous Port Hercule from 19th to 22nd September.

Gaelle Tallarida, general manager of the Monaco Yacht Show, says: "We feel very positive, with signs of renewed interest."

Meanwhile, it appears that the celebrated show has discovered a new demographic in Asia: "The Chinese are part of our new clientele," she adds.

The Graf Ipanema was among the international display at Port Hercule. This hand-crafted boat exudes tradition as the keel, frame and stringers are made entirely of oak and mahogany. At first glance, you are transported back in time to the 50s and 60s, where movie stars and monarchs cruised the Cote d'Azur in similar specimens. But don't let appearances fool you, this Bavarian runabout can reach top speeds of 40 knots and tackle the tightest corners. It is the perfect ambassador for a yacht show which is both progressing into modernity and rooted in tradition.

Also new for 2012 was the upper-deck lounge, where exhibitors and visitors could meet at the champagne bar or dine at the official MYS restaurant. Media co-ordinator of the Monaco Yacht Show, Johan Pizzardini, says: "We transformed the restaurant to a lounge 650 metres squared to accomodate the elite of society and of the yacht market." This social space also played host to the official sponsers of MYS, German car manufacturer BMW and Swiss watchmaker Ulysse
