To prevent relapse, the clients need to learn to monitor their thoughts and feelings, paying special attention to internal clues.

Late stage treatment CONDITION OF CLIENTS IN LATE­STAGE TREATMENT

In this stage, the clients work to sustain the attainments of the action stage, and also learn to anticipate and avoid tempting situations and triggers that set off renewed substance use. When the internalized pain of the past is resolved, the client will begin to understand and experience a healthy mutuality, resolving conflicts without an incomplete influence of alcohol or drugs.
