One crank at a time...

A Solution that everyone could grasp.

The automobile; a follow up on one of mankind’s milestone.

For over one hundred years, we have used automobile to transport passengers and goods but this hefty evolution of a carriage cost a pretty penny for the average to maintain.

On average, if one was to drive 15,000 miles a year, it would cost a whopping $9,000 USD for them to keep the car in good shape. That is if the car was in good shape to begin with. This amount is only the baseline to the average cost. The owner of that vehicle has to take in consideration of fuel, labor and the many surppises that awaits them of the trecherous roads of the outside enviorment. In this case, the drive faces the bumpy roads of Houston.

With hundreds of miles paved onto the ground, Houston is rated the fourth largest city in the nation trailing under New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

Over 90% of Houston’s households owns a vehicle noting that this is one of America’s greatest commuter cities.

With a reputation like that arises many problems and opportunities for a solution.

The concept arised from a walk down the block of 8313 Jensen Dr. on the Northside of the city. There was a handfull of broken down cars parked infront of small bungalow houses and an substantial amount of carshops competing against each other on a single mile stretch. As people who hope to preserve the enviorment, the automobile views as the problem that needs to disapear but to stop relying on something we depend on so much would be a disaster.

A better idea is to implement a facility that encourages the public to upkeep their vehicles health. By doing so, the Autohub will serve as a place that raises the bar a crank at a time.

The fouth largest city in the nation, Houston sprawling design promoted neighborhoods and districts that resemble satillites from Houston’s core. Millions of cars commute back and forth.

From the center of the city to the first loop (610 Loop) is 5 miles. From the center to the outer loop is 11 miles.

THE HISTORY ELYSIAN’S DOWNFALL FOR UPRISE The Elysian viaduct connects the North side of Houston just right outside of the cities core to Downtown. Built over Elysian St. in 1955, it contributed to the decline of the neigborhoods surrounding. A viaduct is a long bridge-like structure, typically a series of arches, carrying a road or railway across a valley or other low ground. The stucture was built without removing any adjacent properties. This made those properties extremely un-pleasant to occupy cause a vast space of eerie under-past below the viaduct. The area is now consister industrial warehouses, facto-ries and small rundown residentail housing

MFA Extension Since its founding in 1900, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH), has vigorously pursued a mission to serve as a place for all people through excellence in the collection, exhibition, preservation, conservation, and interpretation of art. To that end, the MFAH actively seeks to connect the institution with the community through outreach programs held across the region, touching the lives of hundreds of thousands of people each year. More than two and a half million visitors engage annually with the museum’s permanent collection of nearly 64,000 objects, as well as the artists and works featured in special exhibitions, presentations, and programs.

By providing a broad range of educational and artistic activities, the museum seeks to capture the vibrant patchwork of Houston’s unique culture and to respond to the interests and needs of a diverse population.

Thus, the vision of inclusion and accessibility on which the MFAH was founded continues to motivate the MFAH board and staff to constantly refine museum programs and design innovative approaches that engage the entire community in the arts and in a celebration of the diverse forms of creativity that intrigue, inspire, and excite us all.

By replacing the main parking lot that sits right in the middle of the MFAH Campus, The Kinder Building becomes a node for the visitors of these museums. This promotes for the public to park under the Glassel School. They would arrive up at the Cullen sculture garden and would be able to walk through to the other Buildings.

1. In order to fit all of the museum’s function on to the site, a basic instinct is to take the boudaries of our given build lot and extrude that shape. The height would be determined when all of the square footages of the building activities are met within the given boundaries 3. The Square Prism is then lifted inorder to make the the facade seem like a floating cube. This gesture allows for the public to see through most of the ground floor from the street to to the extended Cullen Sculpture Garden.

2. To make things interesting, that extrusion is pinched to a square foot print. The building would become a square prism on site turning it into a tower. This being said, this tower allows for us to give back the surrounding space inside the lot to a more celebrated space.

Viewed by Layer The museum was designed to be a treat to the public. Like a floating giftbox, the people inside go through layers of content (flashy tissue paper) to the gift. Which in this case, the temporary exhibition is displayed on the top four floors.

THIS BIG BANG THEORY A group of local astronomers and scientists have formed a partnership to promote the awareness of the universe around us.the partneship has recieved substancial financial gifts from a variety of investors is in order to fund the construction of a new Planetarium project for the City of Houston. The mission is to provide the community with a place to explore the wonders of the universe. In addition to the Planetarium function, the project will also include an exhibit hall to be used for traveling natural science exhibits and special events.
