“Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvellous works among all nations. For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the people are idols: but the LORD made the heavens. Glory and honour are in his presence; strength and gladness are in his place. Give unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength. Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness” (1Ch 16:24-29).
“The word “sanctuary” in the Hebrew language is a derivation on the word “holy.” This should not come as a surprise really. The tabernacle, or sanctuary, is a holy place. In it is contained the Holy of Holies. It is holy ground in the holy land. It is where the holy people of Israel go to meet the Holy One of Israel. Holiness is everywhere in the Old Testament! So as we continue thinking about what it means to live into our value of sanctuary, we must consider what it means to live into holiness.
God is holy, and we’re not. In fact, He's so holy, His unmediated presence is lethal. Even angels hide their faces and cry, “Holy, holy, holy!” And yet, this holy God has redeemed a people for Himself and has chosen to dwell among them.
“For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. For I
am the LORD that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy” (Lev 11:44-45). “And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles. And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain. And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles. This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles. In that day shall there be upon the bells of the horses, HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD; and the pots in the LORD'S house shall be like the bowls before the altar. Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts” (Zec 14:16-21) .
“If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ” (1Pe 2:3-5).
Israel was set apart for the Lord and God dwelt amongst them. His presence in their midst sealed the fact that He had called them apart from the rest of the world to be his chosen people. It is the same case with the church, the body of Christ.
God’s appearance to Moses in the burning bush. The bible says when Moses saw the bush burning, he decided to draw closer to see why it burned but was not consumed. Then the Angel of the Lord spoke to him from the midst of the bush and said; Do not come nearer, put off your sandals from your feet for the place where you stand is Holy ground. (Exodus 3:5).

The essence of God is holiness. As children of God, we must not be conformed to this world; instead, our lives must be a life of holiness. Peter instructed believers to be holy as the Lord is. God also commanded the Children of the Old Testament to be holy Leviticus 11:44; therefore, our lives must be set apart from the world because we have chosen a different lifestyle to live by. “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:” (1 Peter 2:9).
Holiness is wholesomeness, completeness, pureness, and perfection unto God. It is also a place in God. When God sanctifies something— whether it’s a place, a person or a thing, it becomes holy. That person, place or thing becomes separated from all things, unto God. As God’s children, we’ve been sanctified by the Spirit unto Him; therefore, we are holy. Also, when God’s presence comes upon someone or when His presence comes upon a place—like it did on Mount Sinai in the Old Testament, it becomes holy. The temple in the Old Testament also was called holy because the presence of God dwelt there, and God had separated that place unto Himself. Exodus 24:15-16
And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD. Exodus 28:36
