Passover 2023

“Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth” (Isa 53:1-9).
An amazing event was prophesied in Isaiah 53. The very One by whom the world was made would walk on the earth He created and that He would do great things. Isaiah also prophesied about the humiliation, the suffering and the death of Jesus Christ. Isaiah declared, “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him and with His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). This is the message that declares hope for sinners who could never save themselves. Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, He that believes in Me has everlasting life” (John 6:47). Have you recognized your need of a Saviour? Do you see yourself as a sinner? Have you repented and turned to Jesus, acknowledging He is the only one who can save your soul?
The Passover lamb was sacrificed because of the tenth plague on Egypt. There were ten plagues that devastated Egypt because they refused to let the people of Israel leave their land. The tenth plague was the death of the firstborn of the land. However, death was going to come not only on the Egyptians. It would come on the Israelites as well. The only way
of escape was to slaughter a lamb and put the blood on the doorposts of their house. They would be saved by the blood of the lamb.
“Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (Jas 5:13-15).
Every year close to millions of people join armed forces all over the world. It is estimated that over 1.5 million men and women have been injured while serving in the army. Many of these people’s lives were never the same after the injuries. Families break up, and others even go into depression. We are grateful for the many injured soldiers while serving to protect the freedom of the people and the countries they serve. However, only one man was wounded to redeem man from his sins. He was the only one pure enough; only Jesus was righteous enough to suffer and die for the sake of man’s redemption. The prophet Isaiah says “He was wounded for our transgressions” in anguish some 700 years before the birth of Jesus.
Jehovah Rapha heals us of our spiritual and bodily sickness. “By His wounds we are healed”, these are marks of divine judgement. The healing, the spiritual health we have received, is contrasted with the wounds and stripes to which He was subject. Have you been wounded by sin, rejection, loss or betrayal? Only Jesus can heal that and give you His peace.
Jesus’ sacrifice was about love for that which was lost to redeem and set us free from the chains for sin. Every lash, every strike of the hammer he received was for our transgressions and our iniquities we are healed.

“For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls” (1Pe 2:21-25).

In love You purchased my salvation on Calvary’s tree, You bore my grief and sorrow; enduring the pain
So I might be changed and never ensnared again, You were wounded for my transgression and sin
You died that I might be cleansed and made whole within, You were brutally bruised for my iniquity You willingly died so that I might have victory, The punishment for my sin was laid on You So that I might know the joy of peace in all I do, O Lord by Your stripes I am healed each day Come help me now live for Your glory I humbly pray, Help me to serve You diligently each day, In my life Lord Jesus I pray, come have Your own way, Daily in me O Lord fulfill Your own plan
Prepare my heart O Lord for You to willingly stand, Complete Your redemptive work in me I pray I surrender my all Lord Jesus to You today.

“And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me” (1Co 11:24-25).
