“ Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  For by it the elders obtained a good report.  Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear” (Heb 11:1-3). “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Heb 11:6). “I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.  And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.  For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.  Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith” (Hab 2:1-4). There is a point beyond which we have to go. Beyond logic, reason, and our natural caution, into a place of joyful trust and faith. This is who we are as a congregation and as a company of people. This is what God is

building and developing in our midst, and all the circumstances of life right now are training us to be who we should be. So we should give thanks in everything because we have tons of reasons to give thanks. God is great, and the goodness of God is astonishing! “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?  And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!  But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Ro 10:13-17). When our ears hear God’s word believing a change takes place in our spirit man. This change can be seen almost immediately, there is a transformation, from the old ways to the new ways. God called Abraham to leave his home and family, promising Abraham to give him a land and heirs as the sand of the sea, the stars of the heaven. The only thing Abraham had to do was to step out believing God’s promise. This step of faith change Abraham’s life forever, being chosen by God out of all the people in the world, to bring forth a people God could call His own. God said it Abraham believed it, even to the point when he was tested to sacrifice his only son, he believed God would raise his son from the dead, to fulfill the promise.

Abraham lived by faith in all he did, he walked the land as a pilgrim and stranger in a strange land believing in the promise. In the book of Hebrews we read all these died in faith having not received the promise. What does that mean, Abraham received the promise son, but died without receiving the real promise. “For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith” (Rom 4:13). “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.  And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jer 29:11-13). We go through life’s darkest moments we can hold onto is our faith in God. Our faith is what sustains us, no matter how it looks God’s word is what gets us through challenging times when we, ourselves, cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel. It is in those times that through our faith we trust that God must have a plan, that there must be a greater purpose to our suffering. Without that belief, without that faith, we would have nothing to hold onto, nothing to get us through the dark night of the soul. “And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him. Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory” (Eph 3:9-13).
