Positively Powerful Corporate Leader Connie Robinson Chief Operating Officer of The Gideon Group
Positively Powerful Community Leader Jolyana Begay-Kroupa Chief Executive Officer of the Phoenix Indian Center
Positively Powerful Visionary Leader January Contreras President and CEO of the Children's Action Alliance
Positively Powerful Nonprofit Leader Laura Bulluck Founder and CEO of Hope's Crossing
2024 Positively Powerful Corporate Leader Connie Robinson is the Chief Operating Officer of The Gideon Group and leads the HR Services team, which focuses on executive and organizational development, talent acquisition, recruitment, succession planning, HR audits, DEI, compliance, employee relations, training and development, and workplace safety.
She is a proud resident of Phoenix and has a profound and abiding love for her home state of Arizona. Her deep-rooted connection to the community is a testament to her commitment and dedication. Her expertise extends to a wide range of employmentrelated legal issues, including ADA, FMLA, ACA, Employment Law, HR processes and systems, HR Audits, and AAP/EEO. Her collaboration with the courts led to the creation and implementation of the Arizona judicial sexual harassment policy, a significant milestone in the field. She also contributed to the statewide training for the Arizona Supreme Court, further solidifying her reputation as a leader in the HR industry. She has over 30 years of HR experience at Dial Pinnacle West, Capital Corporation, The Arizona Supreme Court, and Motorola.
Among her many honors, she received the President's Award for consistently exceeding hiring goals, a company first for non-technical staff, recognition for her award-winning recruitment model for talent acquisition and sourcing, the 2022 Golden Standard Award from the Phoenix Suns, and as Chair of the "48 Women, Arizona’s Most Intriguing Women" her program was Awarded an official Arizona Centennial Legacy Project. She is the author of the book 48 Women, Arizona’s Most Intriguing Women.
Connie Robinson is a W. K. Kellogg Leadership & Philanthropic Program graduate. She serves on the board of Valley Leadership Alumni, FBI Citizens Academy Alumni Associations, Sandra Day O'Connor Institute for American Democracy, and the Arizona State University Center for the Study on Race & Democracy.
2024 Positively Powerful Community Leader Jolyana BegayKroupa is the Chief Executive Officer of the Phoenix Indian Center, specializing in language and culture revitalization. The Phoenix Indian Center is a central and vital urban hub for the Native American community.
Jolyana Begay-Kroupa, a woman of remarkable resilience and determination, hails from Ts'iłdiilyesiitah (Rabbitbrush) near Fort Defiance, AZ. Her journey to becoming the 50th Miss Navajo Nation (2001-2002) was a testament to her character.
Today, she resides in the Phoenix-Metro area and continues to inspire, teach, and lead. In addition to her work at Phoenix Indian Center, she teaches Navajo language classes at Arizona State University and Stanford University and has also taught at Harvard University and Yale University. Language is her passion, and she advocates for the importance of language revitalization.
She is a motivating force to many as she leads the Phoenix Indian Center and works to provide cultural and educational services to the Native American community. Native Americans living in an urban setting can lose access to their culture and ceremony. Still, because of the Phoenix Indian Center, many participate in the programs and maintain the connection they were missing out on before.
2024 Positively Powerful Visionary Leader January Contreras is an attorney and non-profit executive. Her commitment to championing women and children for over twenty-five years is evident in her role as the President and CEO of the Children's Action Alliance where she spearheads advocacy that impacts the well-being of children and families in Arizona.
She is the founder of Arizona Legal Women and Youth Services (ALWAYS), a legal aid center that represents people often left behind in the justice system. It provides life-changing and life-saving legal services to children and young adults facing homelessness, abuse, human trafficking, and the foster care system.
January Contreras previously served at the national level as the Assistant Secretary for the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, a position for which she received bipartisan support in the U.S. Senate. At ACF, she managed federal programs ranging from child care to Head Start to child welfare, delivered nationwide advancements, including more support for grandparents and kinship caregivers of children, for families to prevent entrance into the foster care system, new resources to support homeless youth, and new grants and government-to-government partnerships to preserve Indigenous languages and empower tribal decision making over Head Start eligibility. She also created a new Office of Family Violence Prevention. She has also served as a cabinet member and advisor to Gov. Janet Napolitano, overseeing AZDHS as the Interim Director and managing 2,000 employees and a $2 billion budget.
In 2020, she was honored as the State Bar of Arizona's Legal Aid Attorney of the Year and by the YWCA with the Leadership Tribute Award. She received the Judge Learned Hand Public Service Award in 2017, the highest honor the American Jewish Committee bestows on members of the legal profession. She has been honored by Phoenix Business Journal's Outstanding Women in Business Top Forty Under 40 and the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's 40 Hispanic Leaders Under 40.
2024 Positively Powerful Nonprofit Leader Laura Bulluck is the Founder and CEO of Hope's Crossing, a non-pro fi t organization in Phoenix, AZ, that helps at-risk women become whole and healthy. She has 14 years of leadership in lifechanging nonprofit work and is the CEO behind her recently launched Bulluck C Enterprises LLC consulting firm.
Her leadership journey began in 2005 with her Ladies in Power community project. Today, she is one of the Phoenix Business Journal's "Most Admired Leaders of 2022" for her commitment to her community. Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego appointed her to serve on The City of Phoenix Human Services Commission,
As a dedicated mentor and leadership coach, Laura Bulluck invests her time and energy in guiding others. She hosts the Position Yourself For Purpose leadership conference and the CEO Power Talk global podcast, available to 80,000+ listeners.

Genesis of the Awards: The idea began when I delivered a speech before women judges and attorneys. I was motivated to ask, "How many of you give to yourselves the way you give to others?" Only one woman raised her hand, and I knew I needed to do something about this. They were givers who deserved to be cherished. That moment was the spark that fueled my engine to create the annual Positively Powerful Education Summit and Awards Conference and events.
