Welcome to the next chapter of your life! Whether studying for the first time, wanting more and returning for another course, or dusting off your old university notebooks and jumping back into it, we welcome you to Billy Blue College of Design at Torrens University.
Throughout this journey your new home will be our Ultimo campus. As you commence your studies, the challenge I give you is to have the mindset that this is also your campus. Your campus is a heritage listed building with an array of different, purpose-built spaces. Whether it be in our labs, photo-imaging studio, light-craft workshop room or fashion studio, I know you will find this an inspiring place to be in.
Across these pages you will find helpful resources and information, along with ways to connect and engage with the campus community — The Ultimo campus team and myself are here to support you.

3D Design and Animation
This painting takes inspiration from Gustav Klimp’s ‘The Kiss’. Klimp’s work, for me, has always been the standard when it comes to the expression of emotions. I was amazed by the color palette, the shapes and objects with irregular anatomy, and how a piece can convey such strong feelings … like being in a kiss with a loved one. The inspiration for this work came to me during covid, during which time my partner and myself were separated by 3 oceans, not knowing when we could see each other again. After one year of separation, I created this picture. The metaphor in this picture can be interpreted in many ways, including “You are my guiding star!”, “I love you to the moon and back” or “I will find the way to you by the stars”. Since the stars represent my gold, I decided not just to draw or paint the stars, but instead to make them voluminous and luminous, which in turn conveys the magic and sparks that are born between two souls in love.
The Dengs was taken as part of a portrait series of the refugee and asylum seeker community in Canberra which I submitted for my final portfolio. Undertaking this unit as part of my Diploma of Photo Imaging course gave me the opportunity to immerse myself in this project.
This garment was influenced by the nouveau art period which inspired the use of a butterfly motif following the nouveau ideal of bringing nature to modern life. This use of texture was quite important. As per the design brief, neutral colours were only to be used which inspired this idea of using form to create visual interest.
Due to this, Gaultier’s 2008 couture show was influential for the use of puffed quilted channels to add texture within the design which was ultimately translated into the butterfly pattern on the top. The need for a collar and cuff inspired me to balance the tightness of the waistline by adding volume to the sleeves achieving a more harmonious final design.
