Kuya Daniel Razon: Public Service PERSONIFIED Broadcast Journalist. TV and Radio News Anchor. TV Program Host. TV and Film Director, Photographer. Recording artist. Martial Arts expert. Sportsman. And recently, a Doctor of the Humanities, honoris causa. Awards of Excellence in broadcasting. He has won them all. With so many awards tucked under his belt, he has nothing to prove anymore. Garnering awards and a track record as a trail-blazer in the delivery of public service in broadcasting have now become a matter of fact in Kuya Daniel’s phenomenal career. But more than all these public accolades what is most fulfilling to him are still the little unreported things he does that make a big difference for the ordinary Filipino. Such as consoling an old woman wearied down by life’s difficulties, wading through knee deep waters with a little boy on his back towards safer ground. “Tulong muna bago balita” is the essence of his belief. He would rather provide assistance first even if unheralded rather than do nothing while someone is in agony just to out-scoop others. That’s because helping others is in his

blood. Born in the province of Bulacan, Philippines, Daniel Razon was reared in a closely-knit, religious family. Taught to read at an early age, he was reciting poems and Biblical verses at the age of three before the Congregation in which his family is a part of. As a child, he wanted to be a medical doctor. But gifted with a good voice, combined with his charm and exposure to public speaking at a young age, he instead found himself veering towards broadcasting, prodded by his uncle Bro. Eli Soriano, spiritual leader of the Church of God International, so he could help the Church in propagating the word of God. While his family could financially support him in his studies, Daniel took the long route to support his studies and have some income to be given to those who are in need of help. Taxi driving, selling merchandise, and more — all these Daniel tried without hesitation. A year after the EDSA Revolution of 1986, Daniel finished his Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications, Major in Broadcasting at the Philippines’ Centro Escolar University. Even while just starting in college, he had his
