MONDRI CABIN

Location: adaptable

Year: 2021

Designed for an architecture competition aiming to provide a habitable solution for the future

Inspired by an ever-changing world, the project propose an adaptable architecture, capable of transforming itself according to the user’s needs in different contexts and environments.

Composed of three retractable modules that can be closed and opened via a rail system, the cabin allows the costumer to by or sell modules according to their demand. Futhermore, its dimensions enable easy transportation through various means, such as ships, trains and trucks.

The compact module ensures greather thermal inertia inside, in addition to the frame panel, wich allows natural light to enter and promotes efficient cross ventilation. The window panel enables better control of the airflow, while also introducing a unique pattern.

The structure is adaptable to different terrains without requiring major ground modifications, thanks to its ponctual foundation connected to a retractable support. This easy-to-install system is reusable in different terrains and allows a better anchorage to the ground while also elevating the cabin. This elevation minimizes issues related to humidity and facilitates airflow underneath, helpeing to keep the interior cool.

The temple aims to create an instrospective meeting space that integrates different beliefs and cultures. It serves as a refuge within an academic enviroment dominated by brutalist buildings.

To evoke a sense of comfort and timelessness, sawn Maçaranduba (Manikara sp.), sourced from the city’s surroundings, was used.

The temple follows a radial arrangement, with three organic, introspective paths leading to a circular central space, semi-isolated from the exterior. The nucleus features a semi circular covered area with polycarbonate openings that allow zenithal lighting. Futhermore, it includes an internal garden with a central fountain

With such a rich surrounding, frequented by users of different ages and social classses, the goal was to balance preservation, production and circulation. The building has three blocks, each dedicated to different activities (cultural, administrative and educational), connected at the center by a circular tower that houses the vertical circulation.

CIRCULAÇÃO

With a clear span of over 20 meters, the pedestrian flow is both preserved and enhanced, creating a more dynamic and engaging environment.

The structures employs a system of hollow tubular columns (TUBE660.4/8), (IPE750x219) beams and an external steel-frame wall. The circular core also serves as a stabilizing element, contributing to the structure’s rigidity.

The design draws inspiration from renowed architects such as Zaha Hadid, Le Corbusier, Ruy Ohtake and Frank Gehry, resulting in a building that stands out due to its unique form while seamslessly blending with Brasília’s modern architectural landscape.

NEXUM HOTEL

Location: Águas Claras, Brasília -DF

The project is a skyscraper located in Águas Claras, a developing neighborhood in Brasília, famous for its skyline filled with high-rises. Aiming to stand out, the building followed an organic design approach

ABOUT THE HOTEL

The 200-meter-high bulding hosts different types of hotels, well divided yet seamsslessly integrated. This provides an option from diverse social backgrounds, age groups and realites to enjoy this remarkable structure in one of Brasília’s most vibrant locations.

The underground level accomodates a parking area and technical spaces. The lower ground level houses the administrative sector and an auditorium for large events hosted at the hotel. On the upper ground level, there are two receptions, one for the 3- and 5-star hotels and another for the 7-stars hotel.

Above this, the building features two commercial floors, followed by the three hotel sections, in crescent order, each one containg a dedicated recreational space. Above the hotels, a cultural space is located, and at the very top, a restaurant offers panoramic views. At the same level, an external glass skywalk encircles the buiding.

Structurally, the building is supported by a central core, which contains the vertical circulation, and by external organic metallic columns. Additionally, the skywalk plays a structural role, acting as an external ring that stabilizes the metalic columns.

CREATIVE PROCESS

The building emerged as a response to the ongoing process of verticalization. Althought it has been crutial for social development, after the World War II, a monotous ‘boxed’ skyscraper became the dominant design trend, leading to lifeless cities with dull landscapes composed of straight lines.

Inferno de Dante

The goal was to create an organic and visually engaging building that would stand out from the rigid style of the past. To achieve this, the design drew inspiration from various forms of art, from paintings, literature, music, nature and buildings. One of the first muses was the Dante’s timeless book, The Divine Comedy, aiming to craft an architecture that tells a story. This concept led to the idea of a buiding divided into three distinct parts, inspired by Hell, Purgatory and Heaven. The lower part represents Hell, characterized by a chaotic and intense atmosphere. The middle section, symbolizing Purgatory, is more restrained, serving as a transitional space. Finally, the upper section embodies Heaven, with a lighter, more fluid design

The building’s form was further inspired by fashion, particularly the organic and sculptural works of Iris Van Herpen, resulting in a dynamic design. The top section was also inspired by the lyrics “breakable heaven” from Taylor Swift’s song “Cruel Summer”, reinforcing the idea of a fascinating yet delicate “Heaven.”

The model aimed to recreat a existing project, in scale, in order understand its structural behaviour, its funcionality and its users experience. The material chosen was wood, similar with the real one.

The bridge is located in an ecoturism resort in China, within an agricultural region known for its fishing activities. To construct the model, images, textual informations and technical drawings from the studio were used. However, the lack of scale in the early materials made the early stages more challenging.

From the model, templates were also produced, consisting of 12 duplicate templates (forming the 24 transverse sections) and a template for the Glulam elements (beams of the main arches and the stairs). The transverse templates follow a mirrored pattern: 1; 2; 3; 4; 5; 6; 7; 8; 9; 10; 11; 12; 12; 11; 10; 9; 8; 7; 6; 5; 4; 3; 2; 1.

First, the wooden sheets for the Glulam were cut. Then, using wooden molds, the sheets were glued togheter. Then wooden sticks were cut according to the templates and then glued together with the help of pins to stabilize the structure.

Finally, a 3D-printed base was created, with a pre-cut fit for the main arches. The bridge was then placed on the base, and the acetate sheets were glued on the upper part.

Prison systems around the world vary according to the legal framework adopted by each country. While some prioritize inmate rehabilitation, others focus on punishment and retribution.

Unfortunately, Brazilian prisons are still marked by sexism and a lack of security, especially concerning incarcerated women.

This project proposes the construction of a semi-open penitentiary for 600 women, in accordance with the guidelines of the Brazilian Penal Code and the Law of Penal Execution.

The proposal seeks to offer a more humane environment conducive to reintegration, providing opportunities for work and education, as well as psychological and social support.

One of the main strategies to ensure a more humane space is the application of biophilic architecture Contact with nature was a key pillar of the project’s concept, incorporating the cultivation of native Cerrado plants as a central activity within the prison. In addition to contributing to the maintenance of the facility’s internal gardens, this initiative also enables the commercialization of cultivated products, promoting training and income generation for inmates.

The 3D models were used to gain a better understanding of the architectural approach adopted, which follows a hexagonal format.

This social housing takes place in a underutilized parking lot in Prato and its part of a broader neighborhood revitalization plan.

The building is a five-story square structure, featuring commercial spaces on the ground floor and four residential floors above.

On the east side, a portico area enhances the pedestrian experience by providing a pleasant and sheltered walkway

At the heart of the project lies a semi-public internal garden, inspired by the renowned brazilian architect, painter, and landscape designer Burle Marx. The garden consists of two distinct areas:

- A paved piazza, designed as a lively meeting point for residents and visitors.

- An organic garden, offering an introspective retreat while also providing a visually appealing landscape for the apartments.

The residential units follow a modular layout with three apartment typologies:

- One-bedroom corner apartments;

- One-bedroom apartments;

- Two-bedroom apartments;

Each unit is designed to integrate harmoniously, creating a flexible and functional living environment.
