MY DESIGNS ARE AN OUTWARD EXTENSION OF MY INNERMOST SELF. THERE IS A LOT OF THOUGHT PUT INTO EVERY PIECE I PRODUCE.
I’ve loved expressing my creativity since I was a child, and choosing to turn that passion into my career is the best decision I’ve made to date. My name is Joanna Jackson and I am a Graphic Designer and Brand Specialist seeking my next opportunity to expand my creative palette and to share my talents and drive for this industry with others.
I attended Fanshawe College from 2017 to 2020 in their Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design program and I graduated an award winning honour roll student at the top of my class. Shortly after graduating I moved into my position with Modern Design Studio in November of 2020. In that roll I gained valuable experience working one-on-one with clients all throughout the GTA, and also created a strong visual identity, two successful social media accounts and countless other marketing materials for the company in my time with them. In my current position with Branton Advertising, I work directly with clients of all kinds on a wide array of projects from flyers to large in-store displays. I believe that art and design should be experienced by all, so I am also proud to say that I am well trained in design accessibility.
My designs are an outward extension of my innermost self and there is a lot of thought put into every piece I produce. I truly love what I do and seek new experiences to better myself as a designer.

THE FUNDAMENTALS OF A STRONG BRAND
A logo is the central focus of any brand identity, so I work hard to deliver a unique and memorable logo that reflects their brands essence in the most honest way possible. I love working with illustrated elements, fun typography, clever negative space and elegant layouts to really make my logos stand out from the rest. With every project, I always first consider the feeling my client is trying to convey to their consumers and then incorporate that into the design so that their logo embodies the values of their brand.

ICOLOGY DOCUMENTARIES
PROJECT GOAL : To develop the basics of a strong brand that is clean, energetic, fun and recognizable.
Icology Documentaries is a personal project that I developed based on a brief in order to challenge myself. The brief called for an energetic brand that was fun, creative, timeless and bright. I went with this rich orange as the main brand colour to convey that feeling of energy and kept the font families simple and classic as to maintain the integrity of the brand. The “O” in Icology acts as a logo mark on its own, and also provides that sense of creativity and fun in the word mark.
LILLIAN GRACE BAKING CO.
PROJECT GOAL : To develop a brand identity that is feminine, delicate and soft. -
Lillian Grace Baking Co. is an up and coming baked goods company that approached me for their initial branding in November of 2021. The client wanted something soft and feminine with touches of floral illustration, clean and delicate lines and a focus on the name ‘Lillian Grace.’ I delivered on all of these aspects and the result is a beautiful brand identity with lots of potential for future designs.
IN - HOUSE DESIGN WORK
IN-HOUSE CLIENT WORK
With Modern Design Studio I had the privilege of working with a number of businesses around the GTA. Here are some samples of a few notable client experiences I had as the Graphics & Marketing Manager for Modern Design Studio.
THE BIG CARROT
PROJECT GOAL : To create and develop new signage for the clients newest location that gives the location a refreshed look while staying true to the brand’s already developed identity.
The Big Carrot is a chain of organic grocery stores around Toronto. In June of 2021 they opened their new Danforth location and I was privileged to work with them on the signage for this new store. The signage is a refreshed version of their traditional branding, so it not only provides this new location with a fresh look, but also stays true to the integrity of the brand. I created all of the signage for this location as well as their new logo for their ‘waste-free zone’ which is named ‘Unpacked by The Big Carrot.’
GHOST CHICKEN
PROJECT GOAL : To develop and produce a strong brand identity and signage for the clients first brick and mortar.
Ghost Chicken is an up and coming fast food chain that opened their first brick and mortar in 2022. I was fortunate to work with them on their brand identity and signage for their physical location. I reworked their existing logo, identified their needs for signage and produced everything from fun floor decals to neon signage and window decals. I look forward to watching them expand their growing business.
