HOW ATHOME doyou FEEL?
The Presidents Message
January 2023
Rotary recently surveyed our members and found something that should be unsurprising but still caused manyofusinRotaryleadershiptositupandpayattention: Thesinglemostimportantfactorinmembersatisfactionis the club experience. How at home you feel in your club, how rewarding club meetings are, and how engaged you feelinserviceprojects.
IhaveseenthisfirsthandacrosstheRotaryworldthisyear. Whenmembersfeelanemotionalconnectiontotheirclub, theycannotimagineleaving.Andthatconnectionisoften forgedin“Rotarymoments,”whenpeoplefeelthatspecial connection to the people around them and the impact of theirservice OurImagineImpactTourisallaboutshininga light on those Rotary moments and encouraging our memberstotelltheirstories
But there’s something else that makes an enormous difference in building and sustaining that connection It’s thecomfortandcareofourmembers bothRotariansand Rotaractors AsmyRotaryfriendToddJenkinssays,“People can’tseehowyouthink, buttheysurecanseeyouractions”
Weareintherelationshipbusiness, andifwetakecareof each other genuinely show concern for each other thenwewillmakefriendsforlife, andwewilldoanything towidenthatcircleoffriendship
Thequestionis:Howdowelivewithoureyeswideopenand dothethingsthatreallymatter?Wedothisbytakingtimefor each other, actively listening to one another, and treating every Rotary member as equally valuable no matter how longwehavebeenamemberorwhatpositionwehold.
People like me in Rotary leadership can offer all kinds of advice about how to make your club experience more valuable.Butwhat’smostimportantisforeveryoneinevery Rotaryclubtospeakupandlistentooneanother.Weshould neverbeafraidtosharewithourfellowRotarymemberwhat we expect to get out of our membership and have an open discussionabouthowtomakethathappen
To lead a Rotary club is to invite such dialogue and to be willing to try new approaches Good leadership is giving it away Proppingothersup Allowingotherstofeelthevictory
I have one last request for club leaders We still need to do moreworldwidetoincreaseourfemalemembership It’supa bitthisyear, butIknowwecanandmustdobetter Rotaryis growingagain AsIwritethis,we’rejustahandfulofmembers away from surpassing 12 million Rotarians again So let’s redouble our efforts to bolster our clubs with great new members, then keep them for life by providing comfort and care

A Helping Hand from Walkerston Rotary in Cambodia
TheRotaryClubofWalkerstoniswell known for the installation of its Mini Street Libraries, which can now be found across the region, from Eton to Walkerston,OoraleatoFinchHatton.
Last year, Walkerston Rotary Club Member, Col Baldock joined Rockhampton Fitzroy Rotary club members, other Rotarians and nonRotarians for a ten-day trip to Cambodia's Phnom Penh and Siem Reapregions.
The Rocky Fitzroy club has several projects going on in these areas, building schools, establishing water wellstosupplywaterforahandfulof residences, and also educating and supplyingbirthingkitsanddelivering sanitary kits for women and girls, supplied by the Walkerston Rotary's affiliatedgroupMackayDaysforGirls. Donations-in-kind such as repurposed stretchers and first aid kits were also presented
AsaresultofourmemberColBaldock'spromotionofhisvisittoCambodia, theRotaryClubofWalkerston has donated financial support to the Vision Cambodia Organisation to assist with the purchase of a birthingbedforoneofitsclinics.
