2011ko urriaren bukaeran bildu zen hainbat arkitektura-estudio eta -enpresak Leioako UPV/EHUren Zientzia Parkean graduondoko ikertzaile eta ikasleentzako egoitza bat diseinatzeko ideia -lehiaketara aurkeztutako 26 proiektuak ebaluatu behar zituen epaimahaia.
A finales de Octubre del 2011 se reunía el Jurado que debía evaluar los 26 proyectos presentados por diferentes estudios y empresas de arquitectura al concurso de ideas para el diseño de una residencia para investigadores y estudiantes de postgrado en el Parque Científico de la UPV/EHU en Leioa.
At the end of October 2011 the jury met that had been assigned to assess the 26 projects submitted by different architects’ studios and firms for the design competition of a residence for researchers and postgraduate business students within the Science Park at the UPV/EHU in Leioa.
Lehiaketa hori posible izan zen urte bat lehenago UPV/EHU Nazioarteko Bikaintasun Campus gisa aitortu zutelako EUSKAMPUS proiektuari esker. Aitortzarekin batera aurrekontuko diru-hornidura eman zioten aipaturiko lehiaketa egiteko. Bikaintasun unibertsitate bat ez da ikertzen duen, kalitateko doktoretza-programak dituen eta doktore-tesiak defendatzen dituen –urtean 300dik gora–, ISI zientzia-artikuluak idazten dituen –7.000tik gora azken bost urte hauetan–, patenteen lizentziak ematen dituen –berrogeita hamarretik gora urtero– edo deialdi lehiakorretan bere ikerketa-proiektuetarako finantzaketa lortzen duen unibertsitatea soilik. Master, graduondoko eta doktorego ikasleei, ikertzaile junior eta seniorrei, erakarri dezakeen giza adimen horri guztiari ostatu erakargarria, erosoa eta ikerketa-guneetatik hurbil dagoena eskaintzeko gai den unibertsitatea ere bada. Ezinbestekoa da ostatu funtzionala eta modernoa eskaintzea ere, askatasuna eta autonomia zerbitzu komunekin, bizikidetzarekin, lasaitasunarekin eta ingurune naturalarekin konbinatzen dituena.
Este concurso era posible porque la UPV/EHU había sido reconocida, apenas un año antes, como Campus de Excelencia Internacional con el proyecto EUSKAMPUS, y ese reconocimiento iba acompañado de una dotación presupuestaria para la realización del citado concurso. Porque una Universidad de excelencia no es sólo una Universidad que investiga, que tiene programas de doctorado de calidad y que defiende tesis doctorales –más de 300 anuales–, una Universidad que escribe artículos científicos ISI –más de 7.000 en los últimos cinco años–, licencia patentes –más de una cincuentena cada año– u obtiene financiación para sus proyectos de investigación en convocatorias competitivas, sino es aquella Universidad que es también capaz de ofrecer un alojamiento atractivo, cómodo y cercano a los espacios de investigación, a todas esas personas, estudiantes de másteres, de postgrado y doctorado, investigadores juniors y seniors, a toda esa inteligencia humana que es capaz de atraer. Es necesario también ofrecer un alojamiento funcional, moderno, que combine la libertad y la autonomía con unas dosis de servicios comunes, convivencia, tranquilidad y entorno natural.
This competition was made possible because the UPV/EHU had been recognised barely a year before as a Campus of International Excellence with the EUSKAMPUS project, and this recognition was accompanied by the provision of a budget in order to proceed with the competition. Because a university of excellence is not just a university that carries out research, that offers top quality PhD syllabuses and defends PhD theses – over 300 a year –, a university that writes scientific articles – over 7,000 over the last five years –, licences patents – over fifty a year – and obtains funding for its research projects in competitive tenders, but is also a university that is able to offer attractive and comfortable accommodation that is close to research areas for all those individuals – MA, postgraduate and PhD students, junior and senior researchers –, for all that human intelligence that it is able to attract. It is also necessary to offer functional, modern accommodation that combines freedom and independence with common services, coexistence, calm and a natural environment.

La Universidad del País Vasco tiene tres residencias en las tres capitales de los territorios históricos (Blas de Otero, en Bilbao; Manuel Agud Querol, en San Sebastián, y Tomás Alfaro Fournier, en Vitoria) y el Colegio Mayor Miguel de Unamuno, en la capital bizkaína. Pero al calor del crecimiento del Parque Científico de la UPV/EHU era necesario avanzar un paso más y ofrecer a los investigadores de los diferentes Institutos y grupos consolidados, a los investigadores que llegan con el programa Ikerbasque, y a todos los estudiantes de los másteres de investiga-

Asmo horiekin egin zen lehiaketarako deialdia, eta ia hogeita hamar proiektu aurkeztu ziren. Askotariko ideiak erakutsi ziren 2 astez UPV/EHUko Bizkaia Aretoa izeneko eta Alvaro Sizak diseinatutako Paraninfoko Txillida erakusketa-aretoan, Euskal Herriko hiritarrek ikus zezaten lehiaketan parte hartutako ideia eta proposamenen aberastasuna.
Con estas ideas se convoca el Concurso al que, como decía, se presentaron casi una treintena de proyectos. Una variedad enorme de ideas que quedaron expuestas durante 2 semanas en la sala de exposiciones Chillida del Bizkaia Aretoa, el Paraninfo de la UPV/EHU diseñado por Alvaro Siza, para que los ciudadanos y las ciudadanas de Euskal-Herria vieran la riqueza de ideas y de propuestas que participaron en este concurso.
With these ideas in mind, the design competition was called for which, as has been stated previously, around thirty projects were submitted. A huge range of ideas were presented over 2 weeks at the Chillida exhibition hall at Bizkaia Aretoa, the Paraninfo Assembly Hall at the UPV/EHU designed by Alvaro Siza to ensure that the citizens of the Basque Country would be able to see the wealth of ideas and proposals that were being submitted for this competition.

A los efectos de comparar los diferentes proyectos se estableció un baremo en el que la mitad de su puntuación se basaba en la calidad arquitectónica, y la sostenibilidad económica y medioambiental de la residencia, y la otra mitad, en la optimización de los espacios, la flexibilidad y la modularidad.
A yardstick was established for the purpose of comparing the different projects, whereby half the score was based on architectural quality and the economic and environmental sustainability of the residence, and the other half on optimization of spaces, flexibility and modularity.

El primer premio fue concedido a la empresa Aq4 Arquitectura, bajo el lema METRO CUBICO. Este proyecto destacaba por la disposición en peine de la planta, la capacidad de seriación y el aprovechamiento del módulo y la coherencia global de la propuesta.
The first prize was awarded to the firm Aq4 Arquitectura, under the motto METRO CUBICO. This project was noteworthy for the comb-shaped layout of the floor, the capacity for mass-production and the advantageous use taken of the module and the overall consistency of the proposal.
Orain, ikertzaile eta graduondoko ikasleentzako ikasle-egoitzarako proiektu bikaina dugu Leioako UPV/EHUren Zientzia Parkean eraikitzeko. Inbertitzailea edo inbertsioa eta egoitzaren proiektua gauzatzeko eragilea aurkitzea besterik ez zaigu falta.
Ahora, tenemos un excelente proyecto de residencia para investigadores y estudiantes de postgrado para construir en el Parque Científico de la UPV/EHU en Leioa, sólo nos queda encontrar un inversor, o la inversión, y el operador para llevar a cabo el proyecto de la Residencia.
Now that we have an excellent residence project for researchers and postgraduate students to build at the Science Park at the UPV/EHU in Leioa, all that remains for us to do is find an investor so that we can carry out the project.
