delivering primary care services to a vulnerable population, JMU’s suitcase clinics are designed to help break the cycle of homelessness by providing care at area shelters and helping residents move one step closer to permanent housing. Clients, many of whom suffer from chronic illness, substance abuse and mental health issues, report a high level of satisfaction with the program. More than 80 percent surveyed in 2015-16 said it kept them out of the emergency room.
