OUR VALUES

My Vision

“ e Future of Healthcare must be di erent – We have no choice! I imagine a new model where results matter. I imagine a model that has new metrics to determine success. I have a vision for healthcare that promotes prevention over reaction, health optimization over chronic disease management, a prolonged healthspan free of disease and disability over a model that focuses on extending a life lled with su ering, disability, and dependence.

I want to break down the barriers that prevent people from receiving life optimizing care and dispel the myths perpetuated by traditional healthcare organizations and providers. We (society) are at an in ection point. We can no longer a ord to put our heads in the sand and pretend that our system of reactive care is e ective. Patients have never been sicker, more frustrated, and more lost. I imagine a model that puts a premium on the patient’s experience and allows patients to feel comfortable in a collaborative environment. Society is ready for something new, something fresh, something that works. I imagine an approach to primary care that is sexy – Lifestyle-based care that empowers patient to feel in control of their health. I imagine a model less dependent upon expensive insurance, expensive testing, expensive treatment with no obvious metrics for success. Change is hard. Medicine is big business. e Healthcare Industrial Complex thrives on chronic disease management. I, for one, have had enough of watching from the sidelines. Now, more than ever, patients need the principles of Lifestyle Medicine.”

Find Your Why!

“I found my purpose. I understand how the quest for arbitrary nish lines comes at a great cost. I experienced it rst-hand. What started as a quest to nd happiness, ended in the understanding that happiness can be eeting, but purpose is not. Purpose drives me through life’s peaks and valleys. It adds clarity to di cult decisions about my career, my relationships, my life. I see my vision just as clearly as you see your hands. It acts as a beacon for me during times of uncertainty.

My vision is so clear, my purpose so de ned, my “why” so ingrained that I wake daily with a dogged persistence to push forward. I have had plenty of failures, obstacles, and roadblocks. I have questioned my reasoning countless times. I have even considered throwing in the towel. However, I know that these same issues are being experienced by the very same people I wish to help – Executive Men and Women everywhere. I am compelled to keep going. In the end, I am motivated by pleasurable outcomes rather than pleasurable methods. I want to have an impact on patients that are struggling. Success is not an accident; it is a planned event.”

Frustrations with traditional healthcare systems often stem from several common issues:

Long Wait Times: Both scheduling appointments and waiting to be seen by a doctor can be extensive, leading to delays in receiving care. e average wait time to see a physician is 26 days according to a 2022 survey. at number is likely to grow.

Short Appointment Times: Physicians in traditional practices often have limited time per patient, leading to rushed appointments and insu cient time to address all concerns.

Limited Access to Doctors: Di culty in reaching doctors outside of scheduled appointments, often having to go through layers of administrative sta . 10 Minutes – e average talk time between a doctor and a patient during a visit. 5 minutes (on average) were devoted to 1 major topic and the remaining time was spent discussing 4-6 other issues (lifestyle, sleep, nutrition, exercise, mental resilience, relationships, prevention, weight loss, sexual health, longevity). Each issue was allotted less than 1 minute

Fragmented Care: Coordination between primary care providers and specialists can be poor, resulting in disjointed and less e ective care. Example - 0.67% - e percentage of physicians who practice endocrinology. e average wait time for a new appointment in Kentucky in 2023 was 4 months.

Insurance Hassles: Dealing with insurance companies can be complex and frustrating with issues like denied claims, high deductibles, and co-pays.

Lack of Personalized Care: High patient loads can prevent doctors from providing individualized attention and building strong patient-doctor relationships.

Preventative Care Challenges: Traditional models often focus on treating illnesses rather than preventing them due to time constraints and the way care is typically structured and reimbursed.

Burnout in Healthcare Providers: High demands and administrative burdens can lead to physician burnout, potentially a ecting the quality of care provided. Regulatory Boards provide an extra layer of frustration that has led to a mass exodus of physicians to early retirement.

ese frustrations have led some patients to seek alternatives, such as concierge medicine, which aims to address many of these issues through a di erent care model.

Marshall Medical Group

Concierge medicine is a healthcare model where patients pay an annual or monthly fee directly to a primary care physician or medical practice for enhanced care and services. is fee, sometimes called a retainer, grants patients more personalized and accessible care. Key features often include:

Extended Access: Patients usually have direct access to their doctors through phone, email, or text, often including after-hours.

Longer Appointments: Appointments

tend to be longer, allowing for more in-depth consultations

Preventative Care: Emphasis on preventative care and wellness.

Limited Patient Load: Physicians typically limit the number of patients they see, enabling more time and attention for each patient.

Enhanced Services: May include comprehensive annual physicals, same-day or next-day appointments, and coordination of specialist referrals.

Concierge medicine aims to provide a higher level of personalized care, often appealing to those seeking more direct and consistent communication with their healthcare provider.

What is Lifestyle Medicine?

Lifestyle Medicine is a medical specialty that uses therapeutic lifestyle interventions as a primary modality to treat chronic conditions including, but not limited to, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, & obesity. Lifestyle Medicine certi ed clinicians are trained to apply evidence-based, whole-person, prescriptive-lifestyle changes to treat and, when used intensively, often reverse such conditions.

Marshall Medical Group

Lifestyle Medicine & Lifestyle Prescriptions

Lifestyle erapeutic Interventions are evidence-based customized patient action plans designed to promote behaviors and habits that will improve the 12 key areas of a patient’s life.

A successful Lifestyle Medicine prescription starts with a deep understanding of the patient and their life circumstances and an honest and re ective inventory of collective habits and behaviors. After this process is complete, the physician and health coach will write Micro-Habit root cause lifestyle prescriptions that radically improve compliance and outcomes. To maximize the success, the prescriptions must be:

◊ Speci c

◊ Measurable - Metric Driven

◊ Accountability Based

◊ Achievable

◊ Time connected

Lifestyle Medicine Prescriptions add a smart choice of care for patients to the existing Rx presciptions and managing symptoms model. When employed successfully, Lifestyle Medicine has the potentional to prevent up to 80% of chronic disease. No other eld of medicine can match that! It is, quite simply, the best type of medical care there is.

e Lifestyle approach has no endpoint. While there will be micro-successes, there is no endpoint to this form of success. It is the journey that matters - a life of purpose and self-improvement.

Why is Lifestyle Medicine needed more than ever?

GOALS AND SPIRITUALIT Y

INTIMACY

Sleep is the single most e ective thing we can do to reset our body and brain health every day. Matthew states that the leading cause of disease and death in developed nations have links to lack of sleep. He refers to this as, “the shorter your sleep, the shorter your life”.

INTIMACY

NUTRITION

Many patients self-soothe with food. Once you accept that food is the basis for your health, the source of energy and vitality and develop patterns that are purposeful, you will view food di erently. You truly are what you eat.

MENTAL RESILIENCE EXERCISE

Humans were created to move. Although being active helps, proper exercise is a carved-out period of purposeful time, performed >120 mins/weekly. As we age, the types of exercise we perform should evolve to overcome plateasus.

We live in a stressful time. How you deal with stress, anxiety, the cumulative nature of life, and the peaks and valleys of life. Developing strategies to constructively manage these emotional states builds resilience and reduces the tendency to self-medicate with food, alcohol, and other short-term blunting mediums.

CONNECTEDNESS

INTIMACY

GOALS AND SPIRITUALIT Y

SELF-CARE

Dozens of studies have shown that people who have satisfying relationships with family, friends, and their community are happier, have fewer health problems, and live longer. Conversely, a relative lack of social ties is associated with depression and later-life cognitive decline, as well as with increased mortality.

GOALS & SPIRITUALITY

INTIMACY

GOALS AND SPIRITUALIT Y

A life without goals, is a life without purpose and a life that could become rambling. Having spirituality as the cornerstone of your life encourages people to have better relationships with themselves, others, and the unknown. Spirituality can help you deal with stress by giving you a sense of peace, purpose, and forgiveness. It often becomes more crucial in times of emotional stress or illness.

It is well established that self-care can improve your health, reduce stress and anxiety, boost your self-esteem, protect your mental health, and lead to better and stronger relationships.

FUN & ENTERTAINMENT

COGNITIVE HEALTH

Life is a roller coaster lled with stress, peaks and valleys, repetitive patterns. Some people need to make fun and entertainment a purposeful act as it certainly improves health and results in better, more balanced living.

Humans have powerful brains. But like our bodies, our brains require exercise and intentional, purposeful activity. e number one way to stay cognitively sharp as you age, is to make the health of your brain a priority by continuing to challenge its capabilities.

INTIMACY

INTIMACY

HOME & WORK ENVIRONMENT

HEALTHY HABITS

Intimacy in a relationship is a feeling of being close, and emotionally connected and supported. It means being able to share a whole range of thoughts, feelings, and experiences that we have as human beings. For many, intimacy takes practice but the reward for achievement is great and leads longer, happier, lives.

People spend most of their lives in their homes and at work. Both places should be stress minimal, comfortable, and full of warm memories and emotions. If your work life evokes a feeling of dread, you are in the wrong place.

Lifestyle Medicine is about the development of healthy living habits and strategies and overcoming the tendency to resort to unhealthy habits involving excessive alcohol, drug use, gambling, lust, and egaging in negative self-talk or becoming preoccupied with thoughts that are both negative and destructive.

Marshall Medical Group

Why is Lifestyle Medicine needed?

Like laborers of old, US clinicians are paid on a piecemeal basis. ey are rewarded for the quantity of services provided, regardless of whether they add value. In other words, results are optional. Patients seem oblivious to the fact that the system pro ts from disease management and has little incentive to put any e ort into prevention.

e US healthcare system, as well as US patients, have an obsession with shiny, expensive technologies even though those inventions have done virtually nothing to improve patient health outcomes. Organizations tout their new machines, new imaging devices, new multimillion dollar facilities while failing to admit the obvious - e US healthcare approach to health is not only failing but failing miserably.

e culture of medicine has changed very little in the last 100 years. It is still expensive, di cult to access, and nearly impossible to navigate.

Even patients have been brainwashed into believing that they are virtually powerless to prevent the diseases that the US Health Complex pro ts from.

I started Marshall Lifestyle Medicine because I could no longer participate in a awed and failing system. I watched in disbelief during the pandemic years as the healthcare system buckled to treat Covid patients, most with several lifestyle-induced health conditions. I watched in disbelief at how our reactive healthcare system failed the millions of patients who were subject to the biggest test on traditional healthcare in modern human history.

e US healthcare system focuses on and pro ts o its approach to chronic disease management and reactive treatment of emergencies related to health neglect.
e US approach to health is failing – dramatically! Every US health organization should take a long look at themselves and with brutal honesty recognize that WE ARE FAILING!

e average weight gain during the pandemic was 43 pounds for men and 23 for women.

Social isolation contributed to depression, alcoholism, suicide and helplessness. ese contribution perpetrated on 350 million people in the US has created chronic disease on an epic scale. Which Dr. Mullins has agreed on that this tested tremendously on traditional healthcare which he found could not handle the magnitude.

It is clear that a new approach to care is necessary. Patients are ready. Marshall Lifestyle Medicine is ready. Our model was created to meet the challenge head on and lead the charge!

By meeting patients where they are, developing trust and rapport, and taking a collaborative approach, my version of Lifestyle Medicine will focus energy on preventing all that is preventable, detect (early) all that is detectable, and optimize patient lives.

It is time to be brutally honest with ourselves. It is time for organizations to self-re ect. It is time to empower patients and promote better ways of living. It may not be as sexy as a million-dollar robot but evolution in this space will not come from new machines or fancy new drugs, but rather through a culture shift to purposeful living and promotion of the steps, actions, and strategies we use to achieve health and well-being.

Lifestyle Medicine can prevent disease, keep people healthier, and lower costs by reducing the incidence of heart attacks, strokes, and cancer. Providing education to patients, implementing modern technology, and addressing mental health issues would make medical care more convenient and lead to superior clinical outcomes.

It is clear that a new approach is necessary. Dr. Mullins and Marshall Lifestyle Medicine’s Concierge Approach is ready to meet the challenge and lead the charge! We are committed to making Lifestyle Medicine sexy and sophisticated.

Rede ning the Healthcare Team Model

Marshall Health Team Approach

Team-based care acknowledges that there are multiple key players treating a patient and that each of them must work with one another to drive optimal care outcomes. e Marshall Health Team Approach involves aligning multiple team member’s actions towards common goals:

• Collaboration and Synergies drive exceptional care outcomes

• E eciency and Hospitality drive satisfaction and participation

• Prevention, Optimization, and Hospitality

De ned Team Roles and Responsibilities, as well as e ective communication and infrastructure support, creates an envirnoment for patients to feel con dent that their needs are best met.

Team-based care has been shown to be superior to fragmented, sliced, and disconnected coordination as it minimizes errors, enhances safety, reduces unnecessary delays, and reduces frustrations that are all too common in traditional healthcare.

Marshall Advanced Diagnostics

Breakthroughs that can save your life!

Safe, painless, a ordable testing to help individuals detect diseases faster & sooner

Cardiac CT Calcium Score

Cardiac calcium scoring tests can be used to determine the risk of cardiovascular disease and heart disease. e tests use a multi-slice CT scanner for the detection of small amounts of calcium or plaque in the coronary arteries. Images can show whether the coronary arteries are narrowed or blocked by any calcium or plaque build-up, which can be an indicator of heart disease. CT Cardiac Calcium scoring has been shown to be superior to standard treadmill stress testing for the diagnosis of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD).

◊ Highly Accurate

◊ Painless

◊ Medically-proven to detect heart disease without symptoms

Low-Dose CT Lung Screening

Low-Dose CT lung screenings have proved to be an e ective tool for early detection of lung cancer, the leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States. Routine chest X-rays are often unable to detect lung cancers until they are of advanced stage. Low-dose CT can greatly improve the likelihood of detection of early lung cancers, enabling treatment at a more curable stage.

◊ It is painless and non-invasive

◊ Often in early stages.

◊ Proven to reduce the number of deaths from lung cancer patients at high risk

◊ Low-Dose CT uses up to 90% less radiation than conventional CT chest scan

Galleri Early Cancer Detection Test

Today, most cancers are found too late and are often deadly. e earlier cancer is identi ed, the greater the chance of successful treatment & survival. Galleri can detect many of the unscreened cancers that cause 71% of cancer deaths every year & detect cancer signals across more than 50 types of cancer with a low-false positive rate of 0.5%. (A simple blood draw and results within 10 days.)

Food Sensitivity Testing

is at-home lab test measures your body’s immune response to 96 foods to help guide you on what types of food to prioritize in a two-part elimination diet.

Genetic Fitness and Nutrition Testing

e body’s unique genetic makeup determines how it best reacts to speci c diet and exercise strategies for weight management. e science of genetic testing can help identify the genes that dictate how the body processes carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and micro-nutrients and how patients respond to di erent types of exercise. Weight loss programs tailored to an individual’s DNA has been proven to be much more e ective than one-size- ts-all programs because they take the guesswork out of health management.

Whole Body MRI

A whole-body MRI scan looks at the body from head to toe to nd cancers, in ammation, or obstructive processes in the body. In the head, the exam can show brain masses, shrinkage, old strokes, the sinuses, and nasal cavities. In the neck, abnormalities in the lymph nodes, thyroid masses or arthritis in the cervical spine can be identi ed. In the chest, we check the heart for enlargement and the aorta for aneurysms. Moving to the abdomen and pelvis, we can evaluate the kidneys, liver, spleen, adrenal glands, gallbladder (gallstones), pancreas, bladder, uterus, and ovaries. We look at the spine to check for disc herniation and spinal stenosis, and in the extremities, arthritis in the joints. An additional exam of a speci c area may be required if an abnormality is identi ed to obtain more detailed information.

◊ Safe

◊ Highly Accurate

◊ Quick with no radiation

◊ Able to detect tumors, infections, musculoskeletal abnormalities, old strokes and much more

Advanced Laboratory Diagnostics

Stop guessing. Start addressing. Most tests measure only 3-6 biomarkers. Marshall measures 40+ for a complete picture of your health, including advanced biomarkers rarely available in mainstream medicine. When reviewed with proper context, a true picture of your health emerges and a plan for optimization can be created. ◊ Hormone Balance ◊ Crticial Nutrients ◊ Metabolic Status ◊ Organ Health ◊ Key Risk Factors

Executive Care by Marshall

Marshall Lifestyle Medicine is committed to breaking down barriers that might prevent men from receiving life-optimizing care.

Dr. Mullin’s stance of the importance of men’s health, stem from his own research and experience as a MD. With a collective shared opinion he agrees that: men are signi cantly less likely than women to see a doctor or report symptoms to a health care provider. Only 60 percent of men go to the doctor for a yearly, routine checkup, and 40 percent will not go until something is seriously wrong.

Men are often perceived as the physically stronger gender because they are typically bigger and more muscular than women thanks to testosterone. However, when it comes to health, men are biologically weaker. Men are more likely to experience chronic health conditions earlier than women and have shorter lives.

Men frequently view healthcare as a nuisance, as ine cient and an unpleasant experience. Most men do not feel comfortable discussing male issues with either a male or a female provider. Healthcare o ers a one size ts all approach that does not take into account male speci c goals, ambitions, lifestyles, impediments, and rarely addresses medication side-e ect pro les that can crush a man’s de ning characteristics. Twenty percent of men report seeing a doctor so their signi cant other or a loved one will stop nagging them.

Fifty-nine percent of men report being anxious for 3 or more days in the past 2 weeks and 59% have been depressed. Men’s mental health issues are less e ectively identi ed and managed due to the di erences in how men manifest their symptoms. Men behave di erently than women when worried, scared, anxious, or depressed. e di erence in presentation, societal pressures, and expectations have resulted in generations of men that are both physically and mentally unhealthy.

e overall mortality rate is 41 percent higher for men than women, and it is higher for men for 8 out of 10 leading causes of death—including heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes.

Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths for men in the United States. Most prostate cancer can be e ectively treated if identi ed early with routine lab testing.

Women, on average, live 5 years longer than men.

While both average life expectancy and healthy life expectancy have increased over recent years, healthy life expectancy is increasing more slowly

And here lies the crux of the matter: while we’re extending lifespans, we’re not necessarily extending the years spent in good health, often referred to as healthspan.

is dichotomy raises profound questions about how to ensure quality of life across the lifespan, particularly in our later years, not to mention the gendered experiences that shape the aging process.

Women’s increased lifespan creates unique challenges that MUST be addressed.

Would a woman choose to:

◊ Live longer with decreased mobility?

◊ Live longer dependent on family or nursing home care?

◊ Live longer with cognitive decline?

◊ Live longer in pain?

Dismantling the Myths:

With many Millennials now over 40 and the oldest Gen Xers nearing 60, these demographics are dismantling previously held stereotypes about older women no longer being active, attractive, strong, and healthy.

Beauty

Active

Women report that the ability to be active is a key element to aging positively. Marshall’s approach promotes bone health, arthritis prevention, muscle mass maintenance, endurance, strength, and mental resilience. is multipronged approach allows women to be physically active and live vibrant lives.

Aging Gracefully with Aesthetics allows women to restore and rejuvenate what they once looked like or prevent unnecessary age-related appearance changes through proactive measures. e combination of lifestyle behaviors, hormone health, and preventative care allows for a graceful aging process.

Marshall Medical Group

Strength

So many physical abilities decline with normal aging, including strength, swiftness, and stamina. Together, these changes mean that as you age, you may not be able to perform activities vital to a ful lling life. Marshall has an approach to stop the natural decline in muscle mass after 40 (12% yearly). Muscle is the key to maintaining the active life you have as you age.

Healthy

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease.

e enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being without distinction of race, gender, religion, political belief, economic or social condition.

Concierge care helps to provide health and social measures to ful ll health needs with a personalized care. No woman should be deprived of her right to pursue treatment that allows for complete physical, mental, and social well-being.

Marshall Medical Group

Right now, the best treatment for postmenopausal women to mitigate the dramatic health risks is hormone replacement therapy (HRT). We know that replacing a few of those hormones—usually estrogen, progesterone and low-dose testosterone—can dramatically and bene cially impact women’s overall health.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) has a controversial history due to misrepresentation in the media. e rst published results from the Women’s Health Initiative in 2002 were awed, leading to a whole generation of women being suddenly taken o HRT and doctors ceasing to prescribe it. Since that paper 20 years ago, updated research has disproved the initial results using the same data. Recent studies show HRT use in early postmenopausal women has bene cial e ects on the cardiovascular system, e ectively reducing coronary artery disease and all-cause mortality.

is data does not include the many ways women have been mismanaged with respect to their moods, weight, sleep, sexual health, and countless other signs and symptoms that are driven by hormone changes.

Marshall Medical Group

Queit Con dence

Marshall’s approach resonates with those women who have achieved a state of mind that they are con dent in themselves and their abilities, without being loud or boastful. Quiet con dence means valuing yourself enough to not be disheartened by aging, but rather selfassured knowing you are strategically riding the crest of the journey with quiet self-assurance. Aging is inevitable but there are multiple paths to this journey.

Emotionally Resilient

Self-re ection and adaptive strategies in a woman’s forties allow for better coping styles, gratitude, happiness, mental health, and optimism/ hopefulness play a crucial role in resilience as they age. Marshall’s Age Management strategies allow for continued community involvement, positive relationships, a sense of purpose, and strong connections with family and friends contribute to resilience. at resilience empowers mature women to face challenges, and maintain well-being.

Cognitively Sharp

It is well established that women that incorporate purposeful lifestyle behaviors, emphasize hormone health, weight management, and muscle maintenance have far less age-related cognitive decline. Marshall’s approach focuses entirely on preventing unnecessary impediments to living optimally.

Women who live to age 90, 95 or even 100 experience what’s known as “exceptional longevity.” An analysis Dr. Mullins has studied found one factor linking those long lives: maintaining a stable body weight over decades.

e study, he read, doesn’t just suggest that weight stability might be able to predict longevity, the researchers write. ey also note that “blanket recommendations for weight loss in older women are unlikely to lead to better survival to advanced ages.”

Currently, there is an overzealous use of very e ective weight loss drugs with little consideration for their e ects on bone density, collagen loss, loss of muscle mass, metabolism, and overall health. is represents yet another way that women are being mismanaged.

A woman’s body is like a symphony! It must be managed with small, purposeful movements as not to disrupt the overall ensemble.

You are the composer to your life. Marshall just wants to aid the tempo.
We are committed to helping our patients develop healthy patterns, structure, and balance!
Take the reins of your ensemble.

Independent

Marshall has a plan to help women maintain their independence as they navigate aging. Age management programs allow women who frequently outlive their spouses maintain a sense of purpose, autonomy, control, and allows for the maintenance of positive interpersonal relationships that have shown to maintain cognitive sharpness.

In Personal Life: Prioritizing deep, meaningful relationships with family, friends, and partners, valuing quality time and emotional support.

In Healthcare: Developing strong patient-provider relationships, emphasizing personalized care, empathy, and e ective communication to improve health outcomes and patient satisfaction.

In Leadership: Leading with empathy and understanding, fostering a supportive and collaborative team environment, and valuing the well-being and development of team members.

Sexual Intimacy

It is time for a change in Healthcare. Sexual Health in men and women is truly an afterthought in the medical community despite research that overwhelming shows that sexual health is linked to overall health and well-being. e amount of time medical students spend in education about sexual health is 8 hours. It should come as no surprise that patients rarely receive advice or treatment for their problems from traditionally trained physicians.

Less than 50% of OB/GYN physicians feel comfortable talking about female sexual dysfunction. Even more troubling is the sheer ignorance regarding the prescribing of medications that have devastating e ects on Men’s and Women’s Sexual Health.

Mismatched libido, sexual dysfunction, and lack of physical intimacy cause loneliness, depression and relationship deterioration. With so much focus on management of chronic disease in this country, love, connection, and sexual intimacy virtually takes a backseat.

Marshall Lifestyle Medicine takes a di erent approach – one that devotes an entire pillar to this vital issue. Providers are trained and time is allotted to have an unrushed important conversation with patients about their unique sexual needs. Marshall Lifestyle Medicine has programs, treatments, products, procedures and strategies to successfully navigate and enhance Men’s and Women’s Sexual Intimacy Issues. Marshall is not just about managing disease, but rather about optimizing the lives of Men and Women.

90% of Marshall Patients are Couples e Implications of Being “In it Together”: Relationship Satisfaction and Joint Health Behaviors Predict Better Health and Stronger Bonds Between Partners

How important is it for a couple to have the same goals in life?

In long term partnership, shared interests, common likes, and mutual life objectives can streghten and sustain the relationship. Having common goals and sharing at least a few interests is bene cial. ese could include: morals, passions, pastimes, lifestyles, and more.

Couples that share common goals and similarities in their approach to life report much higher relationship satisfaction.

More satis ed couples engaged in more joint health behaviors than less satis ed counterparts. More joint health behaviors were also associated with less medication use, less co-morbid conditions, and less healthcare utilization. Dr. Mullins has studied which suggest that couples who work together to change their unhealthy habits and incorporate positive lifestyle behaviors have more successful outcomes. (happiness, satisfaction, longevity)

A recent study shows that “changing together” is associated with even better outcomes than even having a partner with a consistently healthy lifestyle, said study researcher Jane Wardle, a psychology professor and director of the health behavior research center at the University College London.

Exactly why couples who change their health behaviors together have better results is unclear, but it’s probably because partners can in uence each other’s behavior in both positive and negative ways – sharing problems, providing mutual support and a touch of competition strengthens bonds between couples. Although research has been focused on couples 50 years old and over, experts are in agreement that these characteristics translate to couples of all ages.

In addition to shared health goals as a predictor of happiness, satisfaction, and longevity, sexual compatibility in a relationship is a signi cant component of overall relationship satisfaction. When couples are sexually compatible, they are more likely to report higher levels of happiness and ful llment in their marriage. Sexual intimacy fosters emotional closeness and strengthens the bond between partners. It can enhance feelings of love, a ection, and connection. Regular, satisfying sexual encounters can increase physical and emotional intimacy, making partners feel closer and more connected. Common health goals in married couples can signi cantly enhance their relationship and overall well-being. Here are some reasons why these shared objectives are important:

Enhanced Motivation:

◊ Working together towards a common health goal can provide mutual motivation. Couples can encourage and support each other, making it easier to stay committed to their health plans.

Improved Communication:

◊ Setting and achieving health goals together requires good communication. is can lead to more open discussions about personal needs, preferences, and concerns - strengthening the relationship.

Better Health Outcomes:

◊ When both partners are aligned in their health goals, they can create a healthier home environment. is can lead to better dietary choices, more consistent exercise routines, and overall healthier habits.

Shared Activities:

◊ Common health goals o en involve activities that couples can do together, such as cooking healthy meals, exercising, or participating in sports. ese shared activities can strengthen the bond between partners.

Emotional Support:

◊ Pursuing health goals together provides emotional support during challenging times. Whether facing a health crisis or dealing with the ups and downs of a tness journey, having a partner who understands and supports your e orts can be invaluable.

Accountability:

◊ Having someone to hold you accountable can signi cantly increase the likelihood of achieving health goals. Couples can gently remind each other of their commitments and celebrate successes together.

Stress Reduction:

◊ Working on health goals together can reduce stress. Shared activities like walking, yoga, or even cooking together can be relaxing and help manage stress levels.

Role Modeling for Children:

◊ For couples with children, pursuing health goals together sets a positive example. It teaches children the importance of health and wellness and the bene ts of working together as a team.

Long-term Commitment:

◊ Health goals o en require long-term commitment. Having a partner to share the journey with can make it more sustainable and enjoyable.

Increased Intimacy:

◊ Engaging in activities that promote health and well-being can increase physical and emotional intimacy between partners, further enhancing the relationship.

Fostering common health goals, lifestyles, and sexual satisfaction requires communication, co-operation, and a shared commitment to well-being. All of which contribute to a healthier and happier relationship.

Weight - A World in Crisis

e Epidemic the Medical Community is Ignoring

We are now experiencing the worst global epidemic in history. Statistics show that 43% of adults age 20 and over are “Obese” and 74% are at least overweight. Almost all Americans are currently overweight. Excess weight is a condition associated with carrying excess fat than optimal or desirable. While slightly less severe than obesity, patients with excessive weight have a higher incidence of disease development and decreased lifespan. Being overweight increases people’s risk of metabolic dysfunction, which manifests as hypertension, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, heart disease, and strokes.

Nearly 50% of adults in the US are diabetic or prediabetic. at number increases even further when one looks at Insulin Resistance as a marker for health. Simply put, we are in trouble. Our health system is designed to diagnose and provide treatments that are palliative rather than curative. It is a system that reacts rather than prevents or reverses. Virtually no time or resources are devoted to prevention or optimization. Patients have been conditioned to take pills for management rather than focus on lifestyle changes that can virtually eliminate the disease at the root cause.

Crisis can be avoided through positive changes and choices which douses the ames that can burn away your lifespan.

Closing statement from John Marshall Mullins MD

“My life changed for the better the day I found my “Why.” I grew up poor. I grew up with a less-than-ideal family structure that lacked nurturing and parental involvement. I formed a belief system that focused on arbitrary nish (success) lines at the expense of the rest of my life. When you grow up poor and without mentoring, you often search for validation wherever you can nd it. I found great success in athletics, academics, and as a physician and business owner. I started an ER group out of a second bedroom of an apartment and grew it to be the largest provider of ER and Hospitalist Care in this area of the country. I did this without any formal ER training. None of those successes provided the feeling of accomplishment I was expecting. In fact, those successes came, unfortunately, at great cost. Lost in the pursuit of individual accomplishment, I neglected my relationships, my spirituality, my health – physical and mental, my need for self-care and the satisfaction that comes from simply living.

I found my “Why” when I became a Father and felt the love that can only come from being bound by birth. I found my “Why” when I realized that I had a story to tell, an epiphany to discuss loudly and often. I found my “Why” when I came to realize that the journey IS the success and sometimes the hardest journeys, yield the most satisfaction. I am proud to be a Father. I am proud to be the Founder of this medical practice. I hope to continue to provide the highest quality of healthcare delivered with my own unique air.

ank you for entrusting your care in me and my team.
