A YEAR IN REVIEW In college athletics, as in life, its rewarding to set lofty goals and to achieve them. It has long been an internal goal to align with peer institutions and compete at a national level across all our sport programs. We were able to realize that goal last year and look forward to building upon that foundation. Similar to the department as a whole, our fundraising arm, the JMU Duke Club, has had lofty goals and I’m thrilled to report that they were able to exceed those goals in fiscal year 2023. The Duke Club has surpassed a record high of 5,633 donors and smashed its fundraising records with an annual fund total of nearly $4.7 million and a total fundraising figure of $6.3 million. I’d like to thank and congratulate our external operations staff who achieved these milestones, particularly Associate ADs Scooter Renkin and Brad Burgess, and their respective staffs in the Duke Club and in the ticket and strategic revenue units. It’s rewarding to see our financial figures climb and to feel the positive impact of our conference moves that occurred in July of 2022. This excitement is also evident in the record ticket sales that we’ve experienced for JMU football. As we announced earlier in July of 2023, we hit a record of 8,718 football season tickets. Thank you to each of you who has purchased tickets and made donations to support our student-athletes. Your support truly boosts their collegiate experience and is felt on game day! I am pleased with the accomplishments we have achieved as a program and the positive impact we have been able to make in the lives of our student-athletes. Our athletic program is in a great place and poised for a bright future, particularly with our overall culture and the people who comprise it. Like every institution in the country, our greatest future challenge will be proactively adapting to the evolution of college athletics. Thank you for your continued support of JMU Athletics and the Dukes’ student-athlete experience. Go Dukes!

Jeff Bourne JMU Director of Athletics

THE DUKE CLUB We are the fundraising arm for JMU Athletics, providing financial support to all of the Dukes’ 18 varsity sport programs. Duke Club members are Proud & True Fund (PATF) donors who recognize the value of the student-athlete experience and the JMU education — helping to keep JMU Athletics programs among the best in the nation. Support of the Proud & True Fund is vital to the continued success of more than 500 JMU student-athletes and makes a significant impact on each athlete and program.

OUR MISSION Serving as the team behind the teams, our mission is to aid in the development and delivery of resources to enhance and positively impact the JMU student-athlete experience — preparing Dukes to be champions in sport, in school and in life by: » Educating alumni, donors, fans, and friends of JMU about the importance of philanthropy and the impact of giving; » Enriching the lives of current and former JMU student-athletes through annual campaigns, membership programs, capital projects and endowed giving; » Engaging, empowering, and providing opportunities for alumni and friends of JMU to get involved through donation of funds and sharing of their time, experience and skills to enhance the JMU student-athlete experience.

#PROUDANDTRUE

OUR VISION We encourage and provide opportunities for JMU alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends of JMU Athletics to raise unrestricted and restricted funds and resources to enhance the student-athlete experience. The financial support generated through the Duke Club will: » Support the student-athlete scholarship bill and the student-athlete academic experience; » Expand recruiting outreach, team operations, and travel opportunities; » Provide resources and program support for student-athlete training, nutrition, mental health and personal and professional development.

OUR VALUES » Educate and demonstrate how donor dollars are hard at work through the accomplishments of our current and former student-athletes; » Celebrate the success of our student-athletes, teams, alumni and donors; » Provide the highest level of customer service to our donors, members, coaches, student-athletes and community in-person, by phone or by written communication; » Deliver membership benefits in a timely and consistent manner; » Communicate effectively and often with our constituents; and » Provide quality and memorable event experiences for all donors and members.

FAQs

For any additional questions, please contact the Duke Club office at (540) 568-6461 or dukeclub@jmu.edu.

What is the difference between a restricted and unrestricted gift to the Duke Club?

Is my gift to the Duke Club tax deductible?

Restricted gifts are designated to specific program, facility, or project. Unrestricted gifts through the PATF go directly toward the general athletic scholarship fund & help offset departmental expenses. Only unrestricted gifts secure Duke Club benefits.

All gifts to the Duke Club, excluding Duke Club Seat Contribution, are tax deductible. For more information regarding tax deductibility, please consult your tax advisor.

How much of my Duke Club gift will my company match and what is the procedure?

Do I receive Duke Club credit for contributions to the JMU Foundation on behalf of other JMU Departments or the Alumni Association?

Companies that offer a matching gift program determine the specific criteria and policies by which they will match gifts. Please contact your HR department for copies of these policies. For questions and assistance, please contact matchgifts@jmu.edu.

Duke Club membership benefits are determined by the unrestricted portion of a donation to JMU Athletics. The first-level of benefits in the PATF begin at the Madison Level ($75 gift).

LAUREN AYLMER SWIM & DIVE

“By supporting Swim & Dive you are supporting this team now and the future teams that are along the way. But you’re also honoring the teams of the past that have paved this way for us.”

GARRETT KUHLA MEN’S GOLF

“We’re very thankful for all the donations that we have received to help get us to this point. We really appreciate everything that goes towards helping us get better as players and improve our game.”

Where can I find my current Duke Club member ranking and status relating to priority points? Log into your JMU Ticketing account and go to “Manage My Account.” Scroll down to find Priority Points and click “View Active Priority Points.” You can also call the Duke Club at (540) 568-6461.

What is the difference between the Duke Club Seat Contribution and the Proud and True Fund (PATF)?

How is parking for athletic events allocated, and how is it related to my Duke Club gift?

A Duke Club Seat Contribution allows access to premium seats at Bridgeforth Stadium and AUBC. A PATF gift provides access to gameday experience benefits. Both funds help with the annual student-athlete scholarship bill that continues to grow.

JMU Athletics reserves football and basketball game day parking for season ticket holders. Parking pass locations are determined by your Duke Club giving level and based upon availability.

What are Priority, Chairback and Club Level football season tickets and how are they related to my giving? Priority, Chairback and Club Level seats are our premium seating locations within Bridgeforth Stadium. These seats require varying Duke Club Seat Contributions along with the cost of the season ticket.

When will the next season ticket reseating occur? In order to provide fair and equitable seating, football and men’s basketball season tickets are reassigned every four years based on Duke Club priority.
