COURSE DESCRIPTION ¡Bienvenidos a español 370! This course offers a survey of the literature of Spain from the Middle Ages to the 21st century serving as a foundation for future literary study. The course includes the reading and analysis of a selection of prose, and poetry, organized around broad themes to facilitate understanding of Spanish identity. Themes include religious and cultural conflict, as well as critical theories on gender, class and race issues in order to study key moments in the History of Spain, including the rise and fall of the Spanish Empire, the Spanish-American War of 1898, the Spanish Civil War, the Transition to democratic contemporary Spain, among others. This course does not include exams but a crucial component of conducting research using library resources effectively throughout the term to write critical response papers and solid research essays under the MLA Guidelines. The student’s preparedness regarding readings and other assignments together with class attendance and participation are highly expected, valued and graded. ---Conducted in Spanish---.
