WHAT IS THE GIRL FROM NOWHERE? It is a 2018 Thailand series that revolves around the story of the mysterious and clever girl named Nanno as she transfers to different schools, uncovering and exposing the wicked acts of both the students and the faculty which often, leads to violence and betrayal. This series is inspired by 13 true incidents where schoolgirls have been victimized. Their stories retold and the series inspired the idea of reversing the destiny from victim to victor.

Echoes of Black Mirror can be felt throughout the 13 episodes as the series weaves a wicked web of moral tales about succumbing to temptation and your darkest desires. It is very fascinating how this series shows the broken side of every school, its students, faculty and staff that perhaps everyone realized that it exists in the real world. After its first season, it is said that the Girl From Nowhere will have its next season soon.

CAST The fact that each episode in the series follows a different plotline, the cast constantly changes, except for Nanno herself, portrayed by 27-yearold Chicha Amatayakul. Playing the role of Nanno, Chicha gives Nanno's life that viewers couldn’t hate. What makes Nanno’s character unique is her ability to foresee what the students and teachers are hiding. There, Nanno is joined by the viewers to uncover the different issues the schools, teachers, and students were hiding.

SOME OF THE SOCIAL ISSUES TACKLED IN THE SERIES The first episode of the series shows us how teenage pregnancy and sexual mistreatment are prevalent in Thailand. It can be clearly shown that most schools in Thailand are not yet open to discussing sex education in the classrooms; perverted teachers are abusing female students.

In the third episode, it shows that insecurities come from comparing ourselves to others and shows the lengths someone could go through to gain approval by lying, throwing friendships away, and stealing others’ works.

In the fifth episode, it tackles that before social media, stan culture has plagued human history for years―from worshipping cats to idolizing K-Pop groups. This episode portrays the nature of fandoms to go the extra mile to defend their idols in an almost cultish manner.

In the sixth and seventh episode, you should be careful of what you wish for or in this case, what you write on the bathroom walls. Whether it’s out of boredom, frustration or anger, the words we say or write have power, meaning too much power is never good in the wrong hands.
