LETTER FROM THE

As we move into winter and begin a new year, this season offers a natural moment to pause and reflect. As we move further into the League year, I remain grateful for the steady engagement our members continue to bring.

Fall is always the busiest season of the League year, and our members showed up in every way. From staffing the Pepsi booths at the Red River Revel to operating the Pumpkin Patch at Provenance—a true community favorite—the work of our League was visible across Shreveport-Bossier. At the same time, we continued Artist for a Day, our oldest running community project, offering free, hands-on art experiences to children attending the Revel. Supporting all of these efforts simultaneously takes coordination, flexibility, and teamwork, and our members delivered.

Over my twelve years in the Junior League, I have learned that the relationships formed while serving our community are what truly make this experience meaningful.

Like many women, connecting with like-minded women was one of the reasons I initially joined, but those connections

evolved into friendships and mentorships that have shaped my League journey. These relationships are built while serving in placements, working fund development shifts, and sometimes simply by grabbing an open seat next to a new face at a General Membership Meeting.

As we head into Galentine’s season, it feels fitting to reflect on those relationships, and I’m glad we can highlight some of them in this issue.

This year, our Membership Council, led by Maria Woodley, Membership Vice President, and Tiffany Metoyer, Membership Assistant Vice President, has been intentional about member connection through a Girls’ Night Out in East Bank Bossier, a holiday party, and our Galentine’s series— including a virtual gift exchange and a Galentine’s meetand-greet for current and prospective members.

That same focus carries into the work of the Nominating Committee, which serves under the Membership Council.

Led by Chelsa Jackson-Reese and including Kimberly Brown, Arielle Clark, Kristin Johnson, Jessica Martin, Ashley Morgan, Julia Todd, and Sustainer Advisor Jodi Penn Rives, the committee has been especially present with its advisees—checking in, listening, and offering guidance in ways members have truly appreciated. The committee also hosted a fall social and met with advisees in January to gather feedback and support members as they think about their continued involvement and leadership within the League.

As we move into the second half of the year, the Nominating Committee is now focused on the important work of identifying and slating the leaders who will help guide our League forward.

As we settle into the winter months, the League continues to move forward through the relationships built across our membership and the way members share their experiences with others. I am continually inspired by our Active, Provisional, and Sustaining members, whose leadership and perspective strengthen the League year after year.

As President, I am grateful for the trust you place in me and for the role so many play in carrying the League forward.

HONORING LEADERSHIP THAT ENDURES More than a century ago, Mary Harriman, founder of the Junior League Movement and a pioneer in public service, recognized the need for a new model of leadership—one rooted not in competition, but in collaboration. She understood that lasting change happens when women connect their talents, relationships, and sense of responsibility to the needs of their communities. That belief remains at the heart of the Junior League today.

Each year, the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier has the privilege of honoring a Sustainer whose leadership embodies this legacy through the Sustainer of the Year Award.

This recognition celebrates a woman whose volunteer service continues well beyond her Active League years—someone who carries forward the League’s mission, values, and vision through meaningful, unpaid service in our community.

The Sustainer of the Year is more than a dedicated volunteer. She is a mentor, a connector, and a catalyst—someone who sees possibility where others see challenge, and who inspires those around her to engage, lead, and serve.

Her impact may be felt in education, healthcare, the arts, human services, public safety, environmental stewardship, youth services, or other vital areas of community life. What unites her work is not the cause itself, but the quality of leadership she brings to it.

This award also serves as a powerful reminder that

League service does not end with a placement or a term of membership. Sustainers are the living bridge between generations of League women who offer wisdom, encouragement, and example. By honoring a Sustainer(s) each year, we affirm the enduring influence of women who continue to give generously of their time, talents, and resources, without compensation and without seeking recognition.

Members are encouraged to reflect on the Sustainers they admire—those who organize others toward a common goal, who elevate the work of groups they serve, and who consistently demonstrate integrity, courage, and commitment. Nominees should be women who not only serve, but who bring others alongside them, modeling what it means to lead with purpose and heart.

Applications for the 2025-2026 Sustainer of the Year Award will be available beginning January 15 and are due February 15. The honoree will be celebrated at a luncheon on March 10, 2026 at The Shreveport Club.

LEGACY IN ACTION The 1933 Society honors the year the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier was founded and recognizes those who choose to invest in the continued strength of our mission.

Since 1933, our League has advanced women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.

That work continues today because individuals make the decision to support it­—not only with their time, but through financial investment that sustains our programs year after year.

Membership in the 1933 Society represents more than recognition.

It is a direct investment in the initiatives that define our impact across Shreveport-Bossier. Contributions help support programs such as Artist for a Day, MAGIC, the Red Apron Pantry, and our annual scholarship initiative—all of which reflect our commitment to developing leaders and strengthening our community.

As we move through the spring portion of our League year, I invite you to join the 1933 Society at the level that is meaningful to you­—League Leader, League Advocate, or League Partner. Every level of participation strengthens our ability to continue this work and ensures that the mission begun in 1933 remains active and relevant today.

GALENTINE’S DAY CELEBRATES WOMEN’S FRIENDSHIP Galentines was introduced by Leslie Knope in the TV show Parks & Recreation and is “Ladies Celebrating Ladies.” The unofficial holiday is observed February 13 and is a time for friends to share in popular activities such as boozy brunches, spa parties, and fun nights out.

With celebrating women in mind, in this issue we wanted to showcase the friendships that have been created due to the Junior League. Here are what some had to say about their Best Friend Forever.

KATRINA SPROLES & HALEY HENNESSY Year I met my League Bestie: 2024 How did you meet in the League?: Haley was my Co-chair for DBB Favorite League memory together: Designer Bag Bingo 2025 night What makes your League friendship special?: It is special because I didn't know Haley prior to being together as Chair and Co-Chair of such a huge project, but we spoke from almost weekly to daily and had an instant bond through “bingo” conversations! Going into our placement together, we personally had a lot going on—from her birthing twin babies to my oldest son getting married, and then we both were grieving major losses of some important women in our lives—all in one JLSB year. We were both in each others corners encouraging and supporting however we could and getting through all the small details of Designer Bag Bingo, when no one else even knew what had happened behind the scenes in the months leading up to that event.

SHANAÉ ELBERT & RONNETRA GREEN Year I met my League Bestie: 2024 How did you meet in the League?: We met at the small meeting sessions at a Sustainer's home.

Favorite League memory together: Serving as co-honorees in 40 under Forty and her being my cheerleader at the honoree reveal ceremony.

What makes your League friendship special?: Social functions have a way of making me a bit anxious until I see a familiar face that I know. Ronnetra just so happens to be that face 45% of the time because she is a social butterfly.

She is supportive in so many way and always find ways to me sure that I feel included and seen.

CHRISTINE FORTSON & MOLLIE CHELETTE Year I met my League Bestie: 2009 How did you meet in the League?: We worked together at Red River Bank and then Mollie joined the League. I was already an Active.

Favorite League memory together: Sitting together at meetings.

What makes your League friendship special?: This isn't just about one, but ALL of my League friendships: There is a special bond with my friends from JLSB that when I see them again and get a chance to work with them, it's like no time has passed. Call it trauma-bonding if you will, but when you are in the trenches with other people on your committees, you develop lifetime bonds—a sisterhood— that knows no space and time. I have MANY special friendships from the JLSB and treasure them all!

SARAH GIGLIO & GINNY LAMB, ALEX PERSON, HEATHER COURTNEY, SAIGE SOLOMON Year I met my League Bestie: Throughout my League experience, 2015-2025 How did you meet in the League?: Lots of board meetings!

Favorite League memory together: A trip to Broken Bow last summer! And celebrating our Queen Heather at Justinian.

What makes your League friendship special?: These ladies were there with me through thick and thin!

ARIELLE KENDALL & EMORY BRAY Year I met my League Bestie: 2019 How did you meet in the League?: We were in the same Provisional class Favorite League memory together: The moment we finished unloading our last pumpkin from the truck—a true moment of accomplishment!

What makes your League friendship special?: Emory and I have an appreciation for each other's dedication to not only JLSB, but to our families at home and the communities we serve—whether it be in the classroom or the closing table.

We both wear many hats, some of the same and some very different, but we make a great team because we know we know we share the same goals­ —and conveniently, the same taste in music!

EMORY BRAY & ARIELLE KENDALL Year I met my League Bestie: 2019 How did you meet in the League?: Arielle Kendall and I were on Patch together when I asked her to be our realtor as my husband and I were searching for our first house.

We were already friendly, but not friends. As the search progressed, we realized how much we had in common and how well we got along. Shortly after, I became her Assistant Chair for Patch. Three years later, we live two minutes away from each other and have become the best of friends! We celebrate social occasion together and even went to the Eras Tour together.

Favorite League memory together: It was 2023 and I was Patch Chair. Arielle had graciously agreed to stay on Patch one more year for my sake. We had just finished unloading the pumpkins and sat atop the remaining pumpkins—tired, dirty, but happy to be done!

JESSICA LATIN & DESTINY JAMISON, KRISTIN JOHNSON, ARIELLE CLARK, DESTINEE WRIGHT Year I met my Galentines: Five years ago and counting!

How did you meet in the League?: So in the midst of COVID-19 in 2020, my friend Destiny Jamison invited me to eat dinner with some ladies she knew. We started meeting once a month at a different restaurant in the ShreveportBossier area. That following year I became Provisional Chair and invited all of the ladies to join and they did! The rest is history!

Favorite League memory together: I was so proud as Provisional Chair to have recruited these phenomenal women. That whole year was such a joy being able to see them beyond our dinners at GMMs and Provisional Meetings and play bingo with them at Designer Bag Bingo.

ALEX PERSON & HEATHER COURTNEY, SARAH GIGLIO, GINNY LAMB, SAIGE SOLOMON Year I met my League Bestie: Heather in 2013-2014, Sarah in 2020-2021, Ginny in 2022-2023, and Saige in 2018-2019 How did you meet in the League?: Heather and I worked on the Shopping for a Cause Spring Market committee together and became life-long friends. We have served on several Boards together and even had babies two weeks apart—not planned, but it made for the best maternity leave!

I had the privilege of asking Saige to be the Executive Vice President in 2018-2019, then sat on the Executive Committee the year she was President as Fund Development VP, 2020-2021.

I sat on the Board Sarah was President in 2021-2022 as Active at Large and really got to know her then, along with the year she was President Elect in 2020-2021.

Ginny and I served on the Board together in 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 when she was President and I was President Elect.

Favorite League memory together: I have so many memories with these ladies! From walkie-talkie fun at Shopping for a Cause Spring Market, to Trader Joe stops when going to a conference in Dallas, and the many meetings in between— yet there are many JLSB memories with other ladies too.

We lift each other up, celebrate the wins, and hold each other during the difficult times. I am so thankful for the relationships formed during our time in the League that carry over for us now as Sustainers. These are the ladies I will continue to do life with long after our years in the JLSB. What makes your League friendship special?: Our friendship is special because four of us held the same position as President, and one was on two of our Boards when we were President. We have been through some of the same unique situations and we understand the League well. Their support the year I was President was just what I needed in the hard times. We can be honest with one another, but still love each other no matter what. I think having women who understand where you have been and who continue to cheer you on is important. I love having these four in my corner for everyday life.

With spring just around the corner, it’s time to start planning a night out that blends fun, fashion, and giving back.

The countdown is on for the Junior League of ShreveportBossier’s largest and most popular fundraising event of the year. Designer Bag Bingo returns with a new venue and several exciting updates you won’t want to miss. Save the date for the 8th Annual Designer Bag Bingo on Thursday, April 2, at Live! Casino and Hotel.

Doors will open at 5:45 p.m. for General Admission, while sponsors will enjoy early access beginning at 5:15 p.m. The excitement kicks off at 6:45 p.m. with 10 fast-paced games of bingo and more than 100 raffle prizes awarded throughout the evening, making it a night full of energy, anticipation, and unforgettable moments.

All ticketholders will receive dinner, a bingo game packet (3 plays per sheet), 10 sheets for 10 rounds of bingo, and one bingo dauber (generously donated by ANECA Federal Credit Union). This year’s event will feature nine designer handbags valued at over $300 per bag and a show stopping grand prize of an authentic Louis Vuitton handbag valued at over $1,000.

New this year, we’re excited to include donated designer wristlets and wallets as consolation prizes throughout the bingo rounds.

This year, we welcome back Emmy award-winning journalist, KTAL News Anchor and JLSB Sustainer Jacque Jovic as our emcee for the night. She was so much fun in 2024, and we are excited to have her back!

In addition to the handbags, the event will feature a “Treat Yourself Raffle” of various items donated by Shreveport-Bossier businesses and friends of JLSB. Items include spa treatments, jewelry, handbags, house décor, local art, restaurant gift cards, and MUCH more. “Treat Yourself” to these raffle tickets for only $10.00 each! A second raffle for the night is the $25.00 Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend Raffle.” With the purchase of this raffle ticket, attendees will have three chances to win a beautiful jewelry piece donated by Sid Potts.

Live! Casino Hotel is offering a JLSB Designer Bag Bingo room block for the night with a special rate of $119 per room for a deluxe king or deluxe two queen non-smoking room. For room reservations, please contact Live! Hotel and Casino at 318.595.0435.

This event raises more than $50,000 each year to support the Junior League’s community projects and initiatives throughout the Shreveport-Bossier area. Our committee has been working tirelessly to make this the best Designer Bag Bingo yet, and community support plays a key role in making that possible. We are currently seeking

JUNIOR LEAGUE OF SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER Kristina Glass

A DBB GIRLS’ NIGHT OUT . . . FROM THE BEGINNING! Designer Bag Bingo has become a beloved annual event of the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier. The excitement for tickets and tables begins long before ticket sales are available to the public. Year after year, women gather together for a “Girls’ Night Out” filled with laughter, celebration, a little competitiveness, BINGO!, and of course, designer handbags.

The Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier’s annual Designer Bag Bingo event began in 2018 and has almost tripled in size since, moving to larger venues along the way.

On March 1, 2018, over 350 women took their seats in the Centenary College Fitness Center for ten rounds of bingo, all hoping for their chance to yell the magic word, “BINGO!,” and win a designer handbag. The event was emceed by a local KSLA News 12 anchor, Adria Goins. The inaugural event raised over $35,000 to support the League’s many community projects.

By the event’s second year, it had already grown to 600 attendees and was moved to the Horseshoe Casino Riverdome to accommodate its growing size. As at the inaugural event, many local businesses donated a plethora of bags, including those from Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Tory Burch, and, of course, the tenth-round grand finale Louis Vuitton bag. The event was a sold-out success, raising over $53,000 to support the Junior League of ShreveportBossier’s community projects.

After a strong start, the Junior League had to cancel Designer Bag Bingo in the spring of 2020, as we were in the peak of the pandemic and could not gather for a good cause.

Initially, the event was postponed, with hopes that things would return to “normal.” As spring 2021 rolled around and we were still quite restricted by COVID-19, the Designer Bag Bingo committee got creative, and the event “Bags, Bourbon, & Bling” was born. This was a five-night virtual raffle fundraiser, where, like Designer Bag Bingo, some of the big prizes were designer bags! Despite the adjustments, the committee sold over $20,000 in raffle tickets, continuing to support the local projects of the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier.

In 2022, the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier returned with an in-person Designer Bag Bingo, and the community was elated. There were still some restrictions in place; however, the event returned to the Horseshoe Casino Riverdome for a night of fun! The event was another soldout extravaganza, emceed by Miss Louisiana 2020, Courtney Butts, and raised over $50,000.

Since then, Designer Bag Bingo expanded and relocated to Sam’s Town Casino & Hotel. In the new location, the event continued to grow and provide a “girls’ night out” while doing good for the community. For the 2026 Designer Bag Bingo event, the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier is excited to continue growing. It will hold this year’s event across the river in Bossier at the new LIVE! Casino & Hotel. It’s going to be another one-of-a-kind night of fun, laughter, friendship, and of course . . . DESIGNER BAG BINGO! RED APRON

Over the past year, Red Apron Pantry has entered a new season—one defined by focus, consistency, and deepening relationships within the community we serve. By intentionally centering our outreach on the 71104 zip code, Red Apron Pantry has evolved into a neighborhood-based model rooted in presence, trust, and measurable local impact.

Since establishing this geographic focus, we have built an active client base of more than 15 households in 71104. This shift has allowed volunteers to move beyond one-time distributions and toward sustained relationships with families. Knowing our clients by name, understanding their preferences, and tracking household needs has transformed Red Apron Pantry from a food resource into a dependable community presence.

This neighborhood emphasis has also shaped how we engage the broader community. This fall, Red Apron Pantry and several board members of Junior League of ShreveportBossier participated in the Highland Jazz & Blues Festival at Columbia Park. The festival provided an opportunity to connect directly with Highland residents, share information about pantry services, and increase visibility for both Red Apron Pantry and Junior League in a setting rooted in local culture and connection.

Red Apron Pantry continues to distribute food on the third Thursday of every month from 4:00–6:00 p.m., providing a consistent and reliable touchpoint for both clients and volunteers. This dependable rhythm allows families to plan

ahead while enabling volunteers to thoughtfully curate offerings, manage inventory, and create a welcoming, dignified experience.

These operations are supported by a highly-engaged volunteer team, strengthened through clear communication, coordinated efforts, and the ongoing “Item of the Month” initiative, which continues to energize targeted donations and keep the pantry well stocked with high-need items.

This season also brought a major capacity milestone: a generous $2,500 donation from Morris & Dewett Injury Law Firm for the purchase of a commercial refrigerator. This addition expands cold storage, making it possible to offer fresh produce, dairy, and other perishable items—further strengthening both the quality and consistency of what the pantry can provide.

While our work is rooted in service, it is also grounded in connection. The Red Apron Pantry committee will gather at The Clayground on February 5 to celebrate progress and invest in the relationships that sustain this work. Strong teams build strong programs, and Red Apron Pantry continues to prioritize both.

By centering our efforts in 71104, expanding infrastructure, and cultivating both donors and volunteers, Red Apron Pantry is building more than a pantry—we are building a neighborhood resource with roots. Our goal remains steady: to show up each month, to listen well, and to serve our community with consistency, dignity, and heart.

EMPOWERING THE NEXT GENERATION The Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier proudly offers the MAGIC Program—Mentoring Ambitious Girls to Inspire Change—an initiative designed to empower, uplift, and inspire middle and high school girls across our community.

Through meaningful mentorship, skill-building experiences, and consistent encouragement, the MAGIC Program equips young ladies with tools to grow into confident, capable, and resilient young women prepared to lead with purpose and clarity.

The MAGIC Program partners with Community Renewal’s Friendship Houses in Shreveport and Bossier City, providing welcoming and supportive environments where girls feel safe to learn, share, and grow.

Central to the program’s mission is the belief that positive relationships with female leaders can be transformational. By connecting volunteers with participants, MAGIC fosters guidance, accountability, and inspiration that extend well beyond the classroom setting.

As one MAGIC mentor shared, “Mentorship is not about having all the answers; it’s about walking beside someone as they discover their own strength, voice, and potential.”

This philosophy guides the program’s intentional, relationship-centered approach and is reflected in every interaction between volunteers and participants. MAGIC workshops are held twice each month from September through April.

Sessions take place at the Shreveport Friendship House on the second Monday of each month and at the Bossier City Friendship House on the fourth Monday. These workshops are facilitated by dedicated Junior League volunteers who bring diverse professional backgrounds, lived experiences, and a shared commitment to empowering young women.

Each workshop focuses on a topic designed to strengthen confidence, build practical life skills, and encourage

positive decision-making. Sessions are interactive and hands-on, incorporating group discussions, creative activities, and practical tools that participants can immediately apply in their daily lives. Over time, consistent mentorship allows volunteers to build trust and rapport with the girls, creating a supportive space where questions are welcomed and growth is encouraged. Workshop topics are intentionally chosen to reflect the real challenges and opportunities young girls face today. Potential topics include goal-setting and vision boards, leadership and teamwork, communication skills, self-esteem and body positivity, healthy friendships, and social media awareness. Additional sessions address basic financial literacy, college and career readiness, overcoming obstacles, mental health, conflict resolution skills, community service, and creative expression.

Through the MAGIC Program, the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier is investing in the future of our community. By nurturing confidence, amplifying young voices, and providing consistent mentorship, MAGIC empowers girls to recognize their value, pursue their goals, and envision brighter possibilities. The program inspires participants not only to succeed individually, but also to become compassionate leaders prepared to inspire meaningful change in the world around them and beyond.

Together with Community Renewal and committed volunteers, the MAGIC Program demonstrates the power of mentorship to create lasting impact. By meeting girls where they are and investing time, care, and consistency, the program strengthens families, neighborhoods, and futures. MAGIC stands as a reminder that when girls are supported, entire communities grow stronger, wiser, and more hopeful for generations across our entire region.

2026 is here and a brand-new year awaits us! With a new year comes the excitement of trying new placements in the League, growing as a leader in your existing one, and getting to make another year of impact in our community. We had a great turnout at December GMM that doubled as our Christmas party! I loved seeing everyone have a wonderful time getting to fellowship and participate in the cookie exchange.

It’s that time of year to start thinking about your placements for next year. As the Nominating Committee begins their slate of nominations, we are excited to see each member shine and grow in the many Junior League placement positions that are available. The placement handbook is available on the JLSB Digital Cheetah homepage. It contains valuable information for all available opportunities including descriptions, needed skills, skills that will be developed, time commitment, and more. This resource can be used to consider the amount of time you have and can dedicate to your placement for the year.

The start of the new year is the perfect time to do an overview of your goals for the year to see how you want to grow personally, socially, and intellectually. This will also give you an opportunity to consider various life events or scheduling conflicts that may affect your ability to participate in a placement effectively and complete that placement. Pregnancy, school commitments, work schedules, weddings, and vacations are just a few examples of very important life events to consider. We offer a large range of time commitment and concentrated options to allow all members to find something that works for them.

Maybe you are a social media guru and would like to learn more about the logistics of the JLSB by serving on our Communication Council. You may love Designer Bag Bingo, and would love to try your hand at fundraising on our Fund Development committee. The Red Apron Pantry committee meets and plans regularly and effectively, serving as a local food bank for the Highland area. This placement meets a few hours a month for the entire League year.

Making note of professional commitments and other planned events can be very beneficial in helping the Placement Committee find the best placement to fit your needs and desires for the upcoming League year.

This can be found under the “Resources” tab under “Placement Handbook and Information.” You can always reach out to a current member or volunteer in a placement that you may be interested in to gain insight on placement specific questions that you may have as well.

After January Advisor meetings and slating is completed, the online placement process begins. During the process, we ask members to rank their top four placement choices. Keep in mind, you can only choose a maximum of two choices on the same committee. For example, you can select two roles on Pumpkin Patch, but your remaining choices must come from other placements such Designer Bag Bingo or Pepsi Revel. Please only rank placements you have a genuine interest in completing and each member must be prepared to be placed in any of her four selected choices.

It is also important to note that a Head Volunteer should be available to attend an entire event being held, and firstyear Actives should not select an Assistant Head Volunteer or Provisional position.

We make every effort to try to give everyone one of their top selections, but that is not always possible. If several members express interest in the same placements, the following criteria will be used when filling positions:

PROVISIONAL

The 2025-2026 Provisional Class has demonstrated that they have hearts for service as they have exceeded expectations for completing requirements during the fall. Provisionals have observed the League’s Community Placements, including Artist for a Day, MAGIC (Mentoring Ambitious Girls to Inspire Change), and the Red Apron Pantry. They have also completed Fund Development shifts at the Red River Revel Pepsi Booths, Pumpkin Patch at Provenance, and Les Boutiques de Noel.

In addition to their hands-on experiences at observations and volunteer shifts, Provisionals have been dedicated to learning the history of the League and the current operations.

Provisionals have heard from Board Members and Head Volunteers from two of the four Junior League Shreveport Bossier (JLSB) Councils. Members from the Community Council spoke at the September Provisional Membership Meeting (PMM) and members from the Membership Council spoke at the October PMM. Individuals representing Communications and Fund Development Councils will have the opportunity to speak with Provisionals about their roles and experiences during spring PMMs. Additionally, many Provisionals have already attended a Board meeting to gain an understanding of how the League functions and operates.

The goal of the November PMM was to allow Provisionals to interact with Sustainer members to gain an understanding of our League’s legacy. Dr. Peggy Murphy, Sustainer and past President, graciously hosted the meeting in her home.

opportunities that she participated in during her time as an Active Member. Her cohort was responsible for purchasing, renovating, and decorating the current League office. She encouraged Provisionals to think outside of the box when planning and implementing strategies to grow our League and continue serving our community.

During December, Provisional Members had two opportunities to engage with fellow members and reflect on the first half of the League year. First, Provisionals joined the December Holiday Party at Vine Books & Vinyl where they participated in a dessert exchange and captured the moment at the photo booth. Then Provisionals had their own Holiday Party at the Magnolia Mudroom, which is a new pottery studio in Bossier’s East Bank District. Everyone’s creativity came out as they painted a piece of pottery to take home.

Looking forward to the second half of the League year, Provisionals will begin planning their League career. In January, Provisionals will have individual meetings with their Advisors to give feedback on their experiences thus far and discuss their goals within the League. February will be dedicated to gaining insight into the Communications and Fund Development Councils. In March, Provisionals will submit their placement preferences, and they will learn which placement they matched with during April.

We are looking forward to welcoming these 28 amazing women into the League as Active Members in May. This group is eager to serve our community and will be a tremendous asset to the JLSB.

LETTER FROM THE LOVE OF THE LEAGUE

Love takes many forms. In February, we celebrate romantic love, the love of our family, and the friendships that carry us through life, but there is another kind of love that deserves recognition—the love of service. For me, that love has found a home in the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier (JLSB), an organization that embodies what it means to give selflessly, lead with compassion, and serve with purpose. At its heart, the Junior League is built on voluntarism. It is a shared belief that when women come together with a common mission, meaningful change is possible. Through JLSB, I have seen firsthand how intentional service can strengthen our community. Whether supporting local nonprofits, addressing critical needs, or advocating for lasting solutions, the League transforms good intentions into real impact. Volunteering is our way of showing love to the place we all call home.

Giving back through JLSB has also reshaped how I view service. It is not about recognition or obligation, but about showing up with a servant’s heart. League members lead quietly and work diligently, often behind the scenes, driven by a desire to uplift others. There is something powerful about serving alongside women who are equally committed to making a difference. That shared dedication creates a bond rooted in purpose, reminding us that service is most

There is a unique kind of love that forms when you serve together—a sisterhood built on shared values. The League has also challenged me to grow. It has encouraged leadership, and accountability, while reinforcing the importance of compassion. Serving through JLSB has deepened my understanding of our community’s needs and reminded me that small acts of service, when multiplied, create lasting change. It has taught me that love in action is powerful, and that true fulfillment comes from lifting others up.

JUNIOR LEAGUE OF SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER PRIORITIZES LEADERSHIP AND CONNECTION IN 2026 The Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier (JLSB) is kicking off the new year with a renewed focus on member engagement and a strategic shift in its leadership selection process. Central to this mission is the Nominating Committee, which has spent the first half of the League year fostering deeper connections across the organization’s diverse membership.

A NEW STRATEGIC APPROACH TO LEADERSHIP In a notable change from previous years, the Nominating Committee has adjusted the timeline for selecting the 2026-2027 President-Elect. Rather than slating the position in the fall, the committee is prioritizing the role following the conclusion of annual January interviews.

This shift ensures that the selection process is informed by the most current feedback and goals shared by members during their one-on-one sessions.

MENTORSHIP THROUGH PERSONALIZED ADVISING The Nominating Committee does more than just fill roles; its members serve as dedicated Nominating Advisors. To ensure meaningful mentorship, Advisors were matched with Active members based on shared placement experiences and League history.

“One of our primary goals was to increase communication across the board,” the committee noted. “Whether through a text, a phone call, or a site visit, we wanted to ensure every member felt supported as they fulfilled their commitments to signature events like Pepsi Revel and the Pumpkin Patch.”

THE POWER OF THE “JANUARY INTERVIEW” In place of a traditional General Membership Meeting this month, JLSB is conducting individual annual interviews. These sessions serve as a vital touchpoint for the League, offering members: • Career Guidance: Personalized advice on navigating their League journey.

• Feedback Loops: An opportunity for members to share their experiences and help shape the League’s future.

• Leadership Discovery: Discussions regarding the more than 20 slated positions available within the organization.

DEVELOPING THE LEADERS OF TOMORROW JLSB remains a premier training ground for local women. From visionary thinking to conflict resolution, the League emphasizes core leadership traits in all its roles. Many of these opportunities utilize a “two-year, move-up” model, allowing members to serve as an assistant for one year to shadow and learn before stepping into a Chair position.

Each year, the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier has the privilege of awarding scholarships to graduating high school seniors in Caddo and Bossier Parishes. As an organization committed to advancing women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training, we are proud to invest in young women who are already demonstrating those values in their schools and communities.

Through this scholarship opportunity, we recognize two deserving female students who exemplify academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to service.

School counselors and local youth organizations throughout Caddo and Bossier Parishes receive scholarship criteria and application information and are encouraged to share it with eligible students.

The selection process is conducted through a blind review. Members of the JLSB Board evaluate applications without knowing the names of the applicants, ensuring that decisions are based solely on merit, leadership, service, and overall impact. This approach reflects our commitment to fairness and integrity in recognizing young women who align with our mission.

Once selected, scholarship recipients are invited to attend our annual May dinner meeting, where they are formally introduced to the Junior League of ShreveportBossier membership and recognized for their accomplishments. It is always a meaningful moment to celebrate these young women in a room filled with leaders who understand the value of service and community engagement.

Over the years, our scholarship recipients have represented schools across both parishes, and each young woman has brought an impressive record of academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and community service. What stands out most is their clear sense of purpose—a desire to make a difference and to lead with intention at an early age.

If you know a female high school senior who embodies these qualities, we encourage you to direct her to her school counselor for application details. Information about the scholarship process will be distributed soon, with decisions announced in early spring. Each year, we are inspired by the young women who apply and honored to support the next generation of leaders in Shreveport-Bossier.

RED RIVER REVEL PEPSI BOOTH FUNDRAISER: A COMMUNITY SUCCESS STORY The 49th annual Red River Revel proved once again why “The Revel” remains one of Shreveport–Bossier’s most beloved traditions—bringing together art, music, families, and community service. Among the many moving parts that made this year’s two-weekend festival a success was the Pepsi Booth fundraiser, proudly organized and staffed by the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier.

Under the leadership of Chairman Jessica Booth and Co-Chairman Courtney Turner, Junior League volunteers dedicated countless hours in organizing and operating the Pepsi Booth throughout both weekends of the festival. Junior League members worked in shifts to ensure guests stayed refreshed while enjoying the vibrant arts, live performances, and family-friendly attractions that define the Red River Revel experience.

Thanks to the teamwork, dedication, and enthusiasm of the Junior League women, the Pepsi Booth Fundraiser not only ran smoothly—it exceeded its goal for the year. This accomplishment reflects the League’s continued commitment to service, leadership, and strengthening the ShreveportBossier community. Proceeds from the fundraiser directly support the Junior League’s mission-driven programs and initiatives, allowing the organization to continue making a meaningful impact across the area.

The Pepsi Booth also served as a welcoming touchpoint for festivalgoers. Whether stopping by for a cold drink between performances or chatting with volunteers about Junior League involvement, attendees experienced firsthand the spirit of service that has been intertwined with the Red River Revel since its founding in 1976.

The success of this year’s fundraiser would not have been possible without the dedication of every volunteer who showed up with a smile, worked long hours, and embodied the League’s values. enjoy a feast of pumpkins, turning the end of our season into something joyful for them as well. It is a small but meaningful way to make sure every pumpkin continues to spread a little happiness.

Behind the scenes of our pumpkin perfection is the tireless work of the Pumpkin Patch Committee. From the very first day, when our members unloaded a truck full of pumpkins in the dark, to the countless hours spent making sure the day-to-day operations ran smoothly, this dedicated group ensured that the patch was a success. I cannot thank these ladies enough!

What makes the Pumpkin Patch so special is not the pumpkins themselves, but what they represent. In a world that moves quickly, the Patch invites families to linger, to wander, and to enjoy being together. For many, it has become an annual tradition. For others, it was their first visit, and judging by the smiles and armfuls of pumpkins, certainly not their last.

The impact of the JLSB Pumpkin Patch reaches far beyond the pumpkin-lined bridge of Provenance. Funds raised this season will support the League’s programs and partnerships, allowing us to continue investing in projects that strengthen families and build a better community. Each pumpkin purchased helped turn simple moments of fall fun into lasting, meaningful change.

As we wrap up another successful season, we do so with gratitude—gratitude for the volunteers who gave their time, for the families who came out to support us, for the sponsors who made it all possible, and for the committee whose dedication brought the entire Patch to life. The Pumpkin Patch may only last a few weeks, but the memories, connections, and impact it creates will carry us through the seasons ahead.

Happy New Year! As we look forward to this exciting new year, I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude for another beautiful fall season of the JLSB Pumpkin Patch at Provenance Community.

The JLSB Pumpkin Patch season is always an adventure, and this year was certainly no exception. From the very beginning, unloading pumpkins in the dark, to our closing day on Halloween with costumed shoppers, the Patch was highenergy! Kids of all ages darted between rows of bright orange pumpkins, moms and dads snapped photo after photo to capture the moment, and smiling volunteers kept everything running smoothly.

The activities at the Patch were a big hit, as always. Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park delighted curious kids (and adults!) with a hognose snake, giving visitors a chance to learn about local wildlife up close. Creative spirits gathered for pumpkin painting and families lingered as children proudly carried their painted pumpkins through the patch, each one as unique as the artist who made it. Pure Barre’s pop-up class added movement and music to the fall atmosphere and reminded everyone that the Patch was not just a place to stroll, but a place to connect, celebrate, and have fun. The Patch became a true hub of community life throughout the season.

You may have wondered what happens to the pumpkins that do not find their home before Halloween. Our leftover pumpkins go to a wonderful cause—we partner with several pig sanctuaries in North Louisiana, where pigs who were adopted as tiny piglets and later outgrew their homes live out their lives in safety. Come November, these rescued pigs

Cookbooks Place the cranberries in a food processor and pulse until coarsely chopped. Add the green onions, jalapeño chile, and cilantro and pulse several more times. Add the sugar, lime zest, lime juice, and salt and pulse until combined. Chill, covered, for 24 hours to enhance the flavor. Serve with tortilla chips.
