Happy Holidays Red Cross Volunteers!

December 2011 Naples, Italy

Ho Ho Ho! Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays Red Cross Volunteers! November was a great month for us as we rolled out our first language exchange program between ARC and Croce Rossa. Many thanks to everyone who participated - we hope to continue the program because of how well you did. We also hope to have CPR/AED classes scheduled in January, so look for those dates in January’s newsletter. We’ve finally selected our Volunteer of the Quarter and are so happy to announce who it is. See page 4 for that announcement. During the holiday season, we encourage you to embrace the holiday spirit and give back to your community in any way you can. Things will be a bit slower in our office this month as we say goodbye to two of our own – Gillia Lambert and Susan Miller. If you see them, be sure to say Ciao! Thank you volunteers; happy holidays!

Language Exchange Program

To volunteer for any upcoming events, or for specific volunteer opportunities, please call our office—we’re always looking for volunteers! see page 3 for specific opportunities

Last month, the American Red Cross teamed with Croce Rossa to provide an English – Italian language exchange for the purpose of educating each other on key “emergency” words and phrases that could have the potential to help save lives. With 12 participants and five instructors, the program was a tremendous success and each participant was awarded a certificate of completion after four two-hour sessions. Thank you to all of the participants and our instructors: Gillia Lambert, John Lambert, Brittany Lyhus, Thiago Silva, and Virgine Silva.

C A L E N D A R !

Update from our Station Manager: Jacquie Mack Hello Naples Volunteers! Happy Holidays! Yes it is that time of year again – a season full of cheer! If you are fortunate enough to see family and friends this year, please be safe in your travels. I hope you get everything you wish for. We have been so fortunate to have had two lovely ladies as volunteers and staff here in our Naples’ ARC office, but alas it is time to say “goodbye” to them! Susan Miller, our Field Office Coordinator, has been with us over two years. She came to our office to be involved in volunteerism and she started right away as our Orientation Chair and Advisory Council Member. Many of you became a volunteer under her and later she may have assisted you in other Red Cross business in the past year. She is now leaving Naples and will be truly missed but not forgotten. Gillia Lambert is known throughout the Naples Red Cross community as the “go to ” person. She brought back a vibrant volunteer pool and left an outstanding legacy for future volunteers. I wish you both tremendous successes in your new locations. Thank you both for a job well done. And fellow volunteers, if you happen to see them out and about, please give them a warm ciao, ciao!

American Red Cross Bids Farewell to Station Chair, Gillia Lambert AND Field Office Coordinator, Susan Miller

ARC Advisory Council members gathered last month to say “goodbye” to two of our own – Gillia Lambert and Susan Miller. Gillia and Susan have contributed so much to the Red Cross during their time in Naples, and we greatly appreciate their service. Gillia came to the Red Cross in search of a meaningful internship as part of her graduate degree program. Upon completion of her internship, Gillia began volunteering as the Station Chair and will leave Naples with over 2,000 hours of volunteerism! Susan began her ARC service as the Orientation Chair and was later hired as the Field Office Coordinator. We are sad to see them go and tremendously thankful for everything they have given to ARC. Best of luck to you both in your future endeavors!
