A MESSAGE FROM OUR OUTGOING PRESIDENT

How quickly time passes! My name is Callie Burnette, and this will be my final letter written as President of Junior League of Chattanooga in our 105th year. It has been an honor to serve in that capacity.

2022-2023 has been an exciting year for our League, an ever-expanding group of dedicated women who positively impact our community. As part of our community initiative, A League of Learners, we continued to support Hamilton County schools, teachers, children, and adults. We funded special projects and formed partnerships with local organizations to provide an active volunteer base, partnered with Montessori Elementary at Highland Park, hosting monthly Kids in the Kitchen cooking classes for third-grade students, and, in part through corporate sponsorship, awarded $18,000 in mini-grants to Hamilton County educators to fund creative teaching projects for students.

In November, we hosted our annual Touch-A-Truck community fundraiser our largest event yet with over 2,000 attendees, raising $10,300 in ticket income. We also look forward to our 2023 League on the Links Golf Tournament at WindStone Golf Club on May 16, 2023.

Our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Council and Leadership Training Committee invited stimulating speakers and organized impactful training to foster inclusivity and diversity while supporting our mission to empower women as civic leaders through leadership training and voluntarism. We continued growing our membership and welcomed an additional thirty-three outstanding women to Junior League of Chattanooga this year. With Covid restrictions behind us, it was a gift to engage again in person, and our Membership Engagement Committee and Sustainer Advisory Council facilitated time and activities for fellowship throughout the year. Old friendships were strengthened, as new members expanded both friendships and service roles within the League.

All of this would have been impossible without every one of you—our members, supporters, and community partners. Through your commitment, ingenuity, hard work, and continuing support, this organization serving Chattanooga for more than a hundred years continues in its relevance to our community. We all look forward to the impact we will create together in 2023-2024 under the leadership of Mikaya Knight and for the next 105 years.

Thank you for this incredible opportunity to serve as President of Junior League of Chattanooga an experience I will carry with an abundance of gratitude and treasure forever.

Yours in service,

We all look forward to the impact we will create together 2023-2024 under the leadersh of Mikaya Knight—and for th next 105 years.

Run for the Roses

LEADERSHIPTRAININGWORKSHOP

On May 1st, our members attended a Kentucky Derby-themed leadership training and development workshop; the event was an extraordinary success! Attendees began the evening with appetizers made from our JLC cookbook, Seasoned to Taste, and a mint julep cocktail & mocktail demonstration from local eatery Honey Seed. The workshop included fun, derby-themed teambuilding crafts & tasks, communicationfocused activities, a roundtable panel discussion, and the roll-out of our updated transition form.

The workshop was organized and led by Sloan Reid (Leadership Development Director), Rachel Pell (Leadership Training Chair), and Melissa White (Past President; Current Vice President, Nominating & Placement) and took place at The Chattery. Thank you to all who attended and organized this event!
