JUNIOR LEAGUE’S FIRST E-CYCLING DAY A SUCCESS! By Libby Sexton This spring, the JLB hosted the TechBirmingham Ecycling Day in conjunction with Bargain Carousel, collecting enough old electronic equipment in just one day to fill three 60-foot-long trailers. In today’s high tech society, people are constantly replacing electronic equipment and loading landfills with potentially hazardous waste. The JLB’s Technology Task Force saw an opportunity to help the community by diverting items destined for landfills to a recyling company.

The ecyling event was so successful, that the JLB Tech Task Force plans to make this an annual partnership, and hopes to work with local companies including a new recycling/ ecycling business called Technical Knockout, started by JLB sustainer, Elise Warren.

In its fifth year, Go the Extra Mile enables the JLB to meet the needs of our community in a tangible way. Thanks to the generosity of our members, the following items were distributed during the 20072008 placement year: —Children’s books for the Junior League’s Hooked on Books project
—Over $150 in spare change to purchase new towels for each person coming into the shelters, as well as toiletries and adult coats for Pathways The JLB membership also donated children’s videos and DVDs for several JLB community partners, as well as toys for the Fox 6 Gifts for Kids program.
