St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore Expands its Shelter Operations in Baltimore County
St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore (SVDP) is excited to announce a significant expansion of its services and a strengthened commitment to serving individuals, children, and families experiencing homelessness in Baltimore County.
On July 1, 2025, SVDP will begin operating a shelter located at The Eastern Family Resource Center in Baltimore County. This 248-bed shelter will offer essential resources and a safe, supportive environment for families, single women, and single men who are facing homelessness, helping them regain stability and secure permanent housing as quickly as possible.
The SVDP Eastside Shelter will become an integral part of SVDP’s existing shelter services. This expansion will strengthen SVDP’s existing partnership with the Baltimore County Department of Social Services to reduce homelessness in the County through comprehensive shelter and supportive services that support housing stability.
Summer 2025
“This is an exciting time for St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore, as this expansion represents a crucial step forward in our ongoing efforts to reduce the incidence and duration of homelessness for Baltimore County residents. We are grateful for the partnership and spirit of collaboration with the Baltimore County Department of Social Services and for a strong funding commitment from the Baltimore County government for these essential services.”
– John Schiavone, President and CEO of St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore.
SVDP is diligently preparing to begin operating the shelter on July 1 and is recruiting volunteers and groups from businesses and organizations. If you are interested in supporting the Eastside Shelter email: volunteer@vincentbaltimore.org for more details.

Camp St. Vincent Prepares for its 119th Season of Serving Baltimore’s Children
Camp St. Vincent is the only free summer camp in the Baltimore region dedicated exclusively to children experiencing homelessness. This summer, we will welcome over 200 children for the eight-week day camp in Baltimore City’s Patterson Park where they will learn, grow, and simply enjoy being kids. Each camp day offers academic support, creative play, emotional enrichment, teamwork and the chance to build positive relationships.
As we prepare for another transformative summer, we invite high school students between the ages of 15 and 19 to join us as Volunteer Camp Counselors. It’s a great opportunity to earn service hours while making a meaningful difference. Student volunteers help facilitate games, pool time, academic enrichment, and field trips. A minimum commitment of two weeks is requested to help provide consistency for our campers. Interested students can scan the QR code to complete the Camp Volunteer Interest Form.
You can help us by making a gift in support of programs like Camp St. Vincent and other services for vulnerable children who need the care that St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore provides— both over the summer and throughout the year.

If you’d like to support Camp St. Vincent by purchasing items from our Wish List, we’re in need of bathing suits, towels, swim shoes, goggles, swim caps, snacks, and juice boxes.

Celebrating the Dedication and Leadership of Young Changemakers
At St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore, we are proud to work alongside young people who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of those impacted by hunger, homelessness, and poverty. Two shining examples of this dedication are Serenity Smith and the students at Mercy High School.
Serenity Smith, a McDonogh School student and former Camp St. Vincent counselor, has demonstrated a deep
commitment to our mission. Beyond her time at camp, Serenity founded a school club dedicated to supporting services to those in need in our community. In one of her recent initiatives, she organized and assembled hygiene kits for individuals in our shelters, providing much-needed care and dignity to those we serve.
We are also grateful for the continued partnership of Mercy High School, whose students have been supporting our programs for years. From painting bowls for our annual Empty Bowls event, to volunteering throughout the school year, and serving as Camp St. Vincent counselors, their contributions have left a lasting impact on our community.
We’re honored to recognize these young changemakers for their leadership, compassion, and unwavering support. Their efforts are a powerful reminder of the difference youth can make when they lead with heart and purpose.
