PRO TIP:

Certified vests are categorized by type and performance class. The three certified types of vests are Type O (off roadway work), R (roadway work) and P (public safety workers). Performance classes are based on the amount of visible retroreflective materials and design attributes:

• C lass 1 certified vests have the least amount of visible material but allow workers to be identified

• C lass 2 offers increased visibility, providing more definition of the worker’s form

BREAKAWAY VESTS

Factory employees are typically prohibited from wearing loose-fitting clothing or jewelry because it could get caught in moving machine parts and pull the worker into the danger zone. You might have a similar hazard if your workers must wear high-visibility vests around moving equipment on your jobsite. You can’t work safely without the vests, and there are benefits to the vests’ loose-fitting design. The best solution is to use vests that will easily and safely break away from the worker if the vest becomes caught on equipment.

Indirect venting goggles have an angled venting system that prevents direct venting to the interior of the goggles.
