Explore invention from the scale of the components; the pieces; the detail. How can the surface that defines space, distinguishing an interior from an exterior be defined and sculpted by animating the skin?

Drawing A full scale laboratory approach will be implemented to challenge the programmatic potential of surface. The dialogue between interior, exterior and the space between, is the underlying challenge. The relationship of scale and the manipulation of component to establish space, place and surface will be the objective of the project.

the pose that interested me the most and can define best the most is the fetal position.

While I sleeping, I often use this position, and according to the research, around 40% of people sleep in fetal position as well.

Minimizing the body usage and protecting organs from the outside.

Then in the morning when we wake up, we stretch out which is the posture that maximize usage of the space. For me, it was interesting, people consciously wanted to have a spacious places, but then unconsciously people don’t need that much space.

Body is the smallest version of the house to protect ourselves.

Bone is the structure, vein and nerves are the inner system to transfer information and skin is the façade which the foremost protect organ from the outside.

I was fascinating the sequence of the movement; minimized to maximized; and want to investigate what is the difference between these positions and how bodies react differently.

Design Process

Through a set of “full scale” portraits establishing understanding of full scale, the perception of full scale and the reflection of self in space.

Aa Model Ver 01

Partition panel Since the communication department decided to move to Brooklyn campus from Manhattan, I wanted to celebrate and to create the atmosphere to welcoming them.

By giving little activity; creating space using the modular panel system, all four different major of design department students can have a chance to communicate with each other.

Each module has several wholes to manipulate the expansion and orientation of the partition.

It is light enough people can easily move around.

And different depth of fluctuation has different acoustical qualities.

Depend how much privacy user need, they can create the space by themselves.

Fluctuations of each joint part create the different space quality depends on the space between ceiling and floor.

Drop down ceiling with high level floor create the moment that people stay in the cave.

Between the rectangular columns, streamlined ceiling which is possibility applied as a lighting component and floor which is served as a seat or table for the space.

Dd Model Ver 04 Furthermore, Maybe I can use this design language for circulation; creating the movement rather than create physical object.

I can design the movement like choreography.

Roaming around the space between the four furniture pieces, people find unstandardized moment that I wanted to create.
