History Book says
On July 28, 1976, at 3:42 a.m., a 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit around the city of Tangshan in Hebei Province. Tangshan is considered to be located in an area with a relatively low incidence of seismic hazards, few buildings have a high seismic rating, and the earthquake occurred in the early hours of the morning while people were asleep, leaving the majority of the population unprepared. The Tangshan earthquake occurred at a time when Mao Zedong was terminally ill and at the end of the Cultural Revolution, and the political situation was already extremely unstable, making rescue efforts less effective. According to incomplete statistics, at least 300,000 people died in the Tangshan earthquake.
1976年7月28日凌晨3时42分54秒，河北省唐山市周边16小时内两 次7级以上地震。唐山被认为地处地震灾害发生率相对较低的地区， 很少建筑拥有较高抗震级别，而且地震发生于凌晨人们熟睡之时， 使得绝大部分人毫无防备。唐山大地震发生之时，正值毛泽东病 危及文化大革命末期，政治局面已经处于极不稳定的状态，救援 效果并不理想。据不完全统计，唐山大地震中死者至少300,000人。
