#1 The Hidden City Location

This is set at a century in the future, with the population growing, the habitable space becomes limited. Humanity always need to find new habitable place to live. In Safi, Morocco, since the bottom and the top of the cliffs get occupied by the people who are infected, uninfected people find a new place to live in the middle of the cliff in order to quarantine away from the people who are sick.

This is a building design for a family. Since the building is cast inside a cliff, so the footage is very limited. There are 3 levels including the underground level, which makes the house with more hierarchy. In order to let the sunlight get into the house, there is a big curtain system in the east of the house. The large balcony and underground levels creates more outdoor activities in the limited space. Three staircases create interesting circulation for the whole building.

#2 The City of Octavia This project required we bring a city to life from the book “Invisible City” by Italo Calvino. In the book, author describe a city called Octavia, the spider-web city. He said: “even the people are suspended over the abyss, the life of Octavia’s in habitants is less uncertain than other cities”. Therefore, I want to create a city with full of joy, although they seem looks living in a dangerous condition, but they are enjoy their life every moment and treasure the time for each other. In my design, I cooperate the structure of natural Bismuth crystal. With an idea of spired-web and the unique of bismuth crystal form, I create the Octavia city, where provide people a new bright life.

El Segundo Barrio is a historic Hispanic neighborhood, which is one of oldest neighborhood in El Paso. It location at the boarder of United Statas and Mexico. It was one of main ports of entry into the United States from Mexico for many years.

However, El Segundo has many social problems compare to other place in El Paso. And educaion is one of issue that I really concern about. The education level in El Segundo Barrio is much lower than in El Paso. Since it is necessary to improve the benefit for the teachers in this low-income area. Housing is one of key elements that the school district can do them.

My house will provide living space for about 100 teachers, a early child development center focused on the multi-language children, and commercial space for bookstore and cafe shops. My goal for this project is to create a fun, affordable, peaceful housing for the residents and for the whole El Segundo community.

#4 The Orchid Finger

Orchid Finger is a gesture in the Beijing Opera. As it named, It representing the orchid flower inspire in the culture. Therefore, character of manliness, honor and brave. In the drawing, the curves create the atmosphere of soft and sophisticated. The beauty of the line blend in the movement of the fingers.

This project is aim to use a hand gesture to create a habitatable in 5”*5” cube form that represents the movement of hand gesture. what is challenge of this project is with all the right movement through the space and how it represents the right inspire in the final. The final model, the gradual growth line from tight to lose, also shows the stage effect.

Broadway Boogie-Woogie the Animation 1942, Oil on canvas, 50 In × 50 In

Piet Mondrian (1872 – 1944) was a Dutch artist who is most famous for his contribution to abstract art through works in which he used only the straight line, the three primary colors, and the neutrals of black, white and gray. He coined the term neoplasticism for this style. BROADWAY BOOGIE WOOGIE is Mondrian’s last complete painting and the most famous, this canvas contains primarily large unbounded rectangles of color, some of which have smaller concentric rectangles inside them.

#6 Broadway Boogie Woogie This concept model is based on Broadway Boogie Woogie painting by Piet Moderian. Model is inspired by the pinnacle of Mondrian’s representation using his pictorial vocabulary of lines, squares, and primary colors.

When I hear the painting is about the grid of Manhattan city, firstly come to my mind is a city full of busyness, but Moderian painted it with good memories about this city which combines it with the Broadway boogie woogie music. This inspired me to do something that should be fun and exciting. I set the concept as something like an “underground city”, which is representative of the other side of Manhattan city, it is full of joy and stimulus, just like what the Boogie Woodie brought to us.

I believe in the Broadway Boogie Woogie, every single line, square and color has its own destiny, or we can say they have their own meaning in the Boogie Woogie and the grid of Manhattan. Therefore, in my design, every line square and color has its own representative.

#7 Romance and Fact Location

Romance and Fact building is a combination of a coffee shop and two residential spaces. The building is lit with enough of sunlight while provides good shading to negate the hot summer weather in Albuquerque. Skylights are used to apply daytime lighting for the building. There is a punctuation in utilizing natural lights. There is a shared space between the two residences that is again illuminated with a skylight. This shared space will be used as a sunroom, or rest area, or even space for parties. The Coffee shop occupies the space downstairs.

There is an area of vegetation implemented within this space to make an impression of nature. There are also potted plants surround the perimeter of the commercial area. The interior walls in the commercial space will also be used for exhibition of Architecture student’s models. The angled roof is intended to collect rain water which will then be used to flushing toilets and watering plants.
