Architect | Planner | Designer

Architecture is not just designing a building but a dialogue between the way of living and the process of making it sustainable for the people. I believe as a designer it is important to take steps ahead in the direction of building a more resilient environment.

My educational background in architecture and planning has given me an understanding of the technical as well as spatial aspects of planning and design, which makes me more curious to involve with an organization that looks forward rethinking on the principles of architecture.

In this Graduate Urban Design Studio, we researched the intersection of urban form, low-carbon cities, and climate to confront a rapidly urbanizing world threatened by climate change. This is a process of configuring a compact district in Brooklyn, NYC to adapt and thrive in changing climate conditions, meet carbon-reduction goals, and sustain urban population.

The aim is to find new knowledge that leads to the construction of a district, a hypothesis of its characteristics, and scenarios for its future.

Ultimately, it was to envision the easing of “closed loop” restrictions, but keeping innovative strategies on the table as the district opens to the surrounding city.

2019 - Current Scenario

2050 - Business as Usual

2050 - Best Practice

The studio’s Social Resilience theme in response to sudden external shocks to the city (storms, disease, heat wave, power failure), the design proposes a radical “closedloop” Net-Zero hypothesis for the Gowanus district in Brooklyn.

From Food to Energy, Waste, Water, Transportation and Embodied Energy, we incorporated a variety of modes of investigation to map and dia-

In this Graduate Urban Design Studio, the aim was to solve the challenging question of finding innovative solution to the rising threat of flooding and increasing water level to the New York City’s waterfront.

The design proposal is based on the research of resilient cities, flood mitigation solution, maintaining the existing Inwood Rail Yard

and providing innocuous and accessible waterfront to the locals which is threatened by existing deserted industrial zone.

This is a process of shaping a culturally diverse neighborhood in Inwood, NYC to acclimate and flourish considering the solution provided to 100-year flood line, changing climate conditions, and endure urban population.

Hypothesis: With the changing era of Urbanization and Industrilization, we have lost the connectivity with our grassroots, our culture and our people.

This design proposal would intent to build a prosperous and sustainable community space by promoting and supporting activities that would interest people’s active participation.

Public market are time honoured places where the entire neighborhood in every culture is developed to strike a balance between the city and its people. It is necesary to re-establish and develop such markets which are the major focal points from where the

Motilal Nagar mass housing was a redevelopment project for the residents residing there. The aim of the project was to build a society sustainanle in itslef. The proposal also aimed at redefining the boundries of temples, mosques, parking spaces, developing hospitals, schools, parks, open grounds, community centre etc. The proposal marked the development of

existing structures into low rise buildings of G+4, G+7 to high rise G+12, G+20 buildings. To justify the project cost and profit margin for the project commercial space and row houses were also included. The major advantage of the designed proposal were -

1. Central R.G. with the row houses surrounding.

2. NO vehicular entry to the Motilal Nagar from New Link Road to avoid the traffic congestion.

E. Annual National Design Competition

National Annual Students Association Competition, 2014

The brief of the competition demanded ‘TRANSFORMATION’ – for end user and to provide a solution, holistically for today’s most intractable issues- such as crowd management, pollution, safety etc. Our site was Girgaum Chowpatty, located at the heart of Mumbai city is used by all walks of for cultural activities. Hence, it is necessary to protect the cultural aspect of the beach. The main attraction of the beach is the long chain of food stalls which is in a dilapidated condition. The design proposal depicts the culture of the city ‘UNITY’ and ‘SHADES OF THE CITY’ at the beach by designing installations. By solving the issue of existing stalls with a module convenient to end users, public seating arrangement providing open and semi open courtyards, the inconveniency of public toilets, landscaping and overall beautification of the beach.

We were shortlisted for the finals from amongst 240 entries.

F. Housing And Urban Development Co - Operation

National Annual Students Association Competition, 2014

Housing and Urban Development Company (HUDCO) is held annually for undergraduate bachelors of architecture student by National Association of Students of architecture (NASA). The brief of the competition demanded to improve and provide a solution for the housing condition w.r.t. EWS, MIG and HIG section. Our site was located in Bhandup, the upcoming sector of advancement. We planned and designed residential layout for these three sectors and also developed a commercial layout. All the necessary factors were taken into considerations from costing and estimation to rules and regulations, from construction to services, from selecting its materials to its environmental effects.
