Pocono Fairs, Festivals and Fireworks Make Summer Comeback

F

ood, music, and outdoor entertainment are summer staples in the Pocono Mountains, and this summer, there is a lot to celebrate. After taking a break last year due to COVID-19, regional fairs, festivals, firework displays, and other community events are making a comeback over the next few months. Bike & Paddle for Summer Fun! Join the 25th Annual Lehigh River Sojourn

W

ildlands Conservancy’s 25th annual Lehigh River Sojourn (Saturday, June 26 – Monday, June 28, 2021) offers families whitewater rafting, biking and canoeing adventure. This year, to again incorporate added safety measures due to Covid-19, the annual three-day experience is a 50-mile guided trip on the Lehigh River that includes bicycling on the D&L Trail on Days 2 and 3. The Sojourn begins in Jim Thorpe with whitewater rafting through Lehigh Gorge State Park, and it ends in Easton, part of the region’s metro-wilderness. Sojourners will be treated to scenic views, visits from resident wildlife and a shared appreciation for preserving the Lehigh River. This year’s Lehigh River Sojourn includes: • A dedicated safety team and paddling instruction • All necessary equipment is provided. Canoes are available

with registration, or individuals can bring a personal kayak or canoe that Wildlands will transport on a shuttle. Private bicycles are permitted. • Boxed lunches • Nature-based education programs • Overnight camping option at the Lehigh River’s only riverside campground, Riverview Park in East Penn Township, Palmerton, Pa. ($10/person/night) • Discount pricing for children ages 6-17 • 10% discount for individuals who register to paddle all 3 days Registration, Itineraries & More Per person registration for whitewater rafting on Day 1 is $65/adult and $45/child (8-17), and for canoeing on Days 2 and 3, registration is $55/adult and $34/child (6-17). Jim Thorpe Is Open For Summer Fun and Play By Jim Thorpe Tourism Agency (JTTA)

e are happy to say that pretty much ALL of our great eateries, cool pubs, unique shops and funky galleries are open! From a cold brew and a warm pretzel, to a gourmet experience unrivaled anywhere, we have it waiting for you. Handmade in our shops? Check. Art and antiques? Yep. Artisan donuts to local ice cream, you bet! If you go hungry in Jim Thorpe, we are not sure how! With countless lodging options from rustic to posh, you’ll be close to all the fun!! Jim Thorpe Trolley Tours is set to begin service this summer. Of course, Jim Thorpe has long been a trolley town, so the return is a welcome addition. While some details have yet to be sorted out, the plan is to park at Penn’s Peak and ride the trolley into JT. There will be multiple stops along the route from downtown to Mauch Chunk Lake park, and best of all, the service is planned as a “Hop-On, Hop-Off” ticket so passengers can ride as much or as little as they like! There will be single and multiple day tickets. Plans even include expanding service into neighboring communities as momentum and ridership builds. Stay tuned for more details as they unfold! The Jim Thorpe Independent Film Festival wrapped up its 4th season at the historic Mauch Chunk Opera House. Following CDC guidelines, the founders, Todd Morris & Jocelyn O’Neil, successfully held a live and in-person only festival!
