Cayambe Kapac Ñan, o camino del inca, es uno de los antiguos caminos reales en la epoca del Tahuantinsuyo. Tiene una extensión de 5 200 kilometros., siendo uno de los más largos y de los mejores construidos en los tiempos de reyes incas. Pero más allá de sus componentes históricos y arqueológicos, existe una extensa biodiversidad tanto de flora como de fauna, dandole honor a su declaración de Patrimonio de la Humanidad, en junio de 2014, por la UNESCO. Con este reconocimiento se impulsó con más fuerza al turismo, así como lo hizo también Perú. Varias de las flores que podemos encontrar en el camino, son medicinales, por ejemplo la quisquis sacha, una flor que puede curar la malaria. ‘La Gran Ruta Inca’, es un documento en donde se presenta el uso sostenible de la Biodiversidad, este fue elaborado por la Comunidad Andina y la U nión Mundial para la Naturaleza (UICN). El camino del Inca atraviesa áreas protegidas y reservas ecológicas como: las Reservas Ecológicas El Ángel y Cayambe-Coca; así como también por los parques nacionales Sangay y Cajas.
