AI am a student at Carleton University in my final year of the Honours Bachelor of Architectural Studies, majoring in Design. Through my work, I strive to create architecture that is not only functional and beautiful but also human, bringing a significant focus on public engagement and the experience of the people I am designing for.
In my portfolio, I examine disability through multiple lenses and how community resources can be exclusionary not just for the disabled community but also for how that exclusion has harmed the community as a whole. I analyze urban plans for affordable housing that help uplift the community. I oversee the leadership and project management of a team of volunteers to help accomplish my design from start to finish in the real-life construction of a set for a local community theatre company.
My portfolio is not a conventional collection of polished computer renders. I am highly proficient in Revit, Autodesk, and Adobe suites, and I utilize these programs in most of my projects. Still, there is strength in the hand-drawn and the human connection between architect and their work, which adds another layer of understanding that can get lost when the sole medium is the computer. My community volunteer projects and coursework completed with community engagement showcase complex projects demonstrating who I am and how I think. I wish to show my skills and abilities through unique projects that push the standard expectations of a successful project and emphasize that there is much more to learn from our work.

RCommunity engagement and resource upgrade
This project was developed through community engagement to determine how best to support the community of Overbrook. listened to the community through research, interviews, volunteering at local events, and visits to the current community centre. They desperately wanted a central resource centre for food banks, daycare, disability support, and newcomer services. I was shocked to hear this and to find out that no more than two blocks away, the City of Ottawa had created a resource centre with all these services located at the old high school at the Rideau Rockcliffe Community Centre. Still, no one knew of it, and it was incredibly inaccessible to the community. To address the community’s needs while focusing on accessibility beyond the physical requirements, I created a series of drawings studying the issues with existing buildings and then overlaying drawings with the interventions I would implement to create a true asset for the community.

The City of Ottawa acquired Kilborn to develop into affordable housing and put out a call for concept designs for an urban plan. Working in pairs, my partner and I created a central radial plan with three primary pedestrian paths that guide people from the main transitway at Billings Bridge and the neighbourhood of Altavista. We focused on creating interesting, beautiful gardens and areas for people, not only for the buildings on the site but also for those passing through from the neighbouring streets. This project brought people from different economic backgrounds together to walk, bike, host events, play, sit, and chat. With integrated benches in the garden spaces, tennis courts, and locally native flowers and plants, we hoped to meet the needs and quell the fears of the existing neighbourhood while still satisfying the city’s affordable housing requirements.

Building on Phase 1, the urban plan and massing helped guide the design of an individual building on the site. I aimed to minimize the height’s impact while conserving the site’s density. This creates an ascending roofline from the surrounding single-family homes to 12 stories. also incorporated two mid-rise sections to break up the site’s massing, shadows, and visual lines. Finally, along with a study of balcony uses, sought to create staggered semi-private balcony spaces for each unit. I stepped back with each bay to create individual balcony spaces and interesting façades from all sides.
Through all phases of the project, I continued to work on the urban design of the site and how it was integrated into my building. This established a secondary pathway that climbed above the ground floor library to create a gathering space looking down into the public library, allowing a central tree to emerge from the ground floor to the platform.
Overall, this resulted in 198 units of reasonable sizes as a mixture of affordable and market-rate units to help offset costs and has the potential for lowneeds permanent supportive housing.

Phase 3: The Building Details, The Building Meets The Site
For the final phase of this project, I focused on connecting the building to the urban site and developing the envelope details. Working with a brick facade and a thermally broken balcony detail, detailed an exterior wall detail. Connecting the site to the building was a crucial element of the project, creating a connected environment for the community and the community.

TConcrete is beloved in architecture for its strength and long-term durability. In the context of building lifespan, it is an incredibly sustainable material, but the environmental construction costs are a high price to pay. Throughout this environmental science class, I focused a series of essays on the detriments of concrete and its significant environmental impact—an effect we often do not realize adds up. The following essays studied new technologies in concrete for net-zero or even carbon-negative outcomes. posed the question of what the impact would be if there were policy shifts requiring concrete to utilize these technologies or to use less concrete.
This culminated in a photo essay. I wanted to create a provocative photo essay that evoked a realization of how much concrete is utilized in our environment daily. In the span of only two blocks on Sparks Street in Ottawa, photographed and outlined countless instances of concrete that one might not even notice in daily life: sidewalks, flower beds, façades, benches, and even garbage cans. Through this photo essay, consider the impact of these two blocks if they were created with these new technologies or alternative materials.

Letting a vision come to life.
I was given the fantastic opportunity to see one of my designs through the whole design process from start to reality through the production of Newsies. This was an incredible experience of collaborating with a team and managing them throughout the process of building the set that realized my vision. The set was comprised of 3 main large-scale staircases set on air casters that allowed them to move around the stage to many different positions to communicate to the audience different scenes throughout the show. In addition to the moveable multipurpose sets, designed several “Flies” that would drop down from the ceiling to provide extra details for a scene that the main stairs could not provide like the arched windows for Pulitzers’ office. drew from historical references and past productions of the show to inform my design choices while working with all areas of the theater to ensure that the sets were as functional as they were beautiful.

Memorial Selebrating The Earth
A memorial is a significant element of culture and history, and architecture dramatically impacts communication. Through a directed study abroad, I developed a monument to the history of the mining towns and their people in Chile. Built from the earth of the Atacama desert, this immersive memorial you walk through is located between 2 significant mining towns. Walking along the reflective pool, pass different rooms that outline different resources mined in the surrounding areas. In each room, the earth is mixed with the corresponding element (copper, salt, lithium), and there are plaques commemorating the people of each town and the impact that the mines had on the residents and the country as a whole.
A study of a site, and an intervention for a city with a population of zero, concluding in a revitalization of the town through research and technological improvements.
Throughout this studio I studied Pedro de Valdivia, an abandoned mining town, to see how could revitalize it while not only assisting the efforts within the city to restore it but to also aid tourism in neighbouring towns. Through my research and analysis of the town decided to create a series of interventions that focus on education and research about mining and the waste that it produces that drove this city to be shut down 30 years ago. In this project focused on an information centre/museum for tourist to come and learn that also housed a research lab for scientists and researchers to work and continue to help improve the lives of those who visit and those who still live and work in toxic mining towns in Chiles’ Atacama Desert.
