Jace (he/him) is an undergrad architecture student at Northeastern University. He has had an interest in creating from a young age. This interest has led him to finding a passion in architecture. He now is exploring that passion and has been enjoying investigating how the built environment can and has influenced social dynamics and behaviors. He is also pursuing a minor in Urban Landscape studies to get a deeper look into what sustainability is in practice through every step of the architectural process. His other hobbies include reading, biking, puzzling, and playing with his family dogs.

Library of Chance Encounters

Welcome to the place for a romcom meetcute, people watching, and community connection. This library is an imagined Chinatown BPL branch set on a site adjacent to One Green Way and Tuft’s hospital expansion buildings. This library aims to increase interpersonal interaction of its patrons through its maze like circulation shaped by the bookcases. These bookcases interupt and divert circulation paths to allow for exploration of the collections and, possibly, the beginning of a great love story.

8’ Washroom Theatre

Through the lens of a public bathroom and activity space set in Boston’s Chinatown adjacent to Mary Soo Hoo park, the project aimed to comment on the performative aspects of every day life. The public bathroom is a great medium for such, due to the ritualized etiquette involved as well as it being so strongly gendered, which is also highly performative. The addition of gardening as the activity not only broungt a new activity to the area but also makes creative seating and a 24/7 audience of plants for the performers.

An Excerpt from Washrrom Theatre

(Danny enters the theater through the side aisle, quickly and quietly making his way down the aisle towards the stage)

Danny: (whispering to himself) I’m so nervous, but I’ve got this. My friends are watching so I can’t disappoint.

(Danny stands at the entrance to the stage preparing for his first appearance. He squares his shoulders, fixes his hair and enters right stage)

Danny: (still talking to himself and walking to left stage) I want to make an impact and to really go for it, got to give them a good show.

(Danny determinedly walks to the left stage stall, taking moderately paced solid steps. He was careful to not look directly at the crowd, not yet)

Danny: (after arriving in the front left stall) That was so nerve-wracking, but the show must go on. This is the big moment, my time, let’s prep!

(Danny does his business swiftly flushing the toilet with a flourish, allowing his flush to join the chorus of others around him. He then checks himself over making sure that he is again looking his best, anything else would be unacceptable. Then he steps back out)

(Danny walks solidly right behind the sink station, taking the sink closest to the watering can. He has a man on his right.

Danny: There’s so many people here. Look I can see my friends over there sitting next to the tulips and honeysuckles. It’s a good thing I’m doing the best and not failing like the guy next to me, his handwashing technique is all wrong, or the woman at the end, she has toilet paper of her shoes.

(Danny washes his hands with gusto putting on quite the show, going well over the necessary 20 seconds)

Danny: It’s time to really show everybody who’s the best.

(Danny reaches for the watering can, filling it up halfway with water. Then he starts his effortlessly graceful stroll towards the door. He can feel all eyes on him, the crowd anticipating his arrival. The automatic sliding doors part for his strut into the crowd. He stops in front of the ferns gracefully pouring some of the water onto them, bringing life to his fans.)

(Danny finally reaches his friends sitting amongst them.)

Danny: Thanks for watching me perform guys. I’m excited to watch the others try to beat that, I know nobody can wash their hands as good as I can.

(Danny relaxes amongst his friends and the flowers to join in watching the show)

Two Houses on the Hill

The final of second semester studio asked for the creation of a double house or two houses on the given terrain. The overall concept of this project was to utilize the octagonal modular shape and its axial organization to create a simple and rational home design. The modular qualities and use of two axes was used to create a relationship between the two distinct houses and are aligned to flow with the landscape. The elevation change was also used to create an interesting relationship between the two.
