1.1 Strategic Context Medemblik (Sound fragment pronunciation (info / explanation)) is a town in the municipality of Medemblik in the Dutch province of Noord-Holland. It is located in West Friesland on the IJsselmeer. The city had 8,590 inhabitants on 1 January 2020 (source: Municipality of Medemblik).

Medemblik is the oldest city in West Friesland: it was granted city rights in 1289 from Count Floris V of Holland, who had just definitively submitted West Friesland to his count’s authority.

Medemblik was an independent municipality until 2007, to which no other places belonged. The municipality was one of the smallest in the province of North Holland. The current municipality of Medemblik was created from a merger with the municipalities of Noorder-Koggenland and Wognum on January 1, 2007, followed by a merger with the municipalities of Wervershoof and Andijk on January 1, 2011.

Sections The housing design is taking place around the existing tree. Full opening to the garden.

No delimitation between inside and outside. We had to use timber structure and insulation to make this guest house fitting the dutch regulation.

The continuity inside / Oustide All the aim of this project was to keep a continuity inside outisde, maitain the existing tree and create a modern design.

We’ve been working on a roof slop to give more space inside for the habitant, and keeping the facade high of the existing house aside.

An open plan The floor is treated in a way to feel yourself in the garden even if you are inside close to the chimney in winter. The Bifolding door permit the full opening of the living room.

1.1 Strategic Context Medemblik (Sound fragment pronunciation (info / explanation)) is a town in the municipality of Medemblik in the Dutch province of Noord-Holland. It is located in West Friesland on the IJsselmeer. The city had 8,590 inhabitants on 1 January 2020 (source: Municipality of Medemblik).

Medemblik is the oldest city in West Friesland: it was granted city rights in 1289 from Count Floris V of Holland, who had just definitively submitted West Friesland to his count’s authority.

Medemblik was an independent municipality until 2007, to which no other places belonged. The municipality was one of the smallest in the province of North Holland. The current municipality of Medemblik was created from a merger with the municipalities of Noorder-Koggenland and Wognum on January 1, 2007, followed by a merger with the municipalities of Wervershoof and Andijk on January 1, 2011.

WINNY MAAS - MVRDV BIODIVERCITY

During our course, we had the opportunity to have Winny Maas, from MVRDV, for a whole semester. We students collaborated with him on the future book he was putting together on the idea for newly developed cities where humans and animals would cohabitate.

The aim was to find a means to make the human and often urban habitat, accessible to animals, and to make the presence of animals agreeable and useful to people.

Durant notre cursus, nous avons eu la chance d’avoir Winny Maas, de MVRDV, durant tout un semestre. Une collaboration a débuté avec lui, sur le futur livre qu’il était en train de concevoir sur l’idée de villes aux nouveaux développements , où l’homme et les animaux cohabiteraient.

Le but étant de trouver un moyen de rendre l’habitat humain et souvent urbain, accessible aux animaux, et de rendre la présence des animaux, utile et vivable à l’homme.

The BiodiverCity project aims to achieve maximum cohabitation between animals and humans in an urban environment.

The project focuses on a methodology that studies demographic opportunities, which in turn depend on the biomass capacity.

The study also takes into account the necessary access that protected species may require.

Le projet BiodiverCity vise à atteindre la cohabitation maximale entre les animaux et les humains dans un environnement urbain.

Le projet se concentre sur une méthodologie qui étudie les possibilités démographiques, qui dépendent à leur tour de la capacité de la biomasse.

L’étude prend aussi en compte des connexions nécessaires dont les espèces protégées peuvent avoir besoin.

La vente et la diffusion de portraits personnels, m’est apparu logique, à la suite de mon travail en graphisme avec le nuit de l’architecture.

The sale and distribution of personal portraits during the architectural evening appeared logical to me, as a result of my work in graphic design.

Des portraits ludiques, personnalisés, et portant le trait de la construction dans leur visage, comme si chaque partie de la composition était une brique que l’on vient déposer à l’édifice.

The playfully composed personalised portraits bore the traits of facial construction, as if each part of the composition was a brick that was just placed in the structure of a building.

J’ai décidé d’utiliser des matière à l’image des matériaux purs tel que le marbre, le béton, ou encore un assemblage de matière ayant un valeur culturelle chère à mes yeux: la mosaïque.

I decided to compose the image using solid materials such as marble, concrete, in other words an assembly of materials with a cultural value that is very dear to me : the mosaic.
