dwelling for an artist
This project discusses the spatial potentialities and the relationship between the architecture and its inhabitants in creating a sense of belonging. I was assigned to design a temporary habitable space for my selected client, an artist, with the idea to redefine a retreat space.

STILT HOUSES ALONG THE COAST
I HAD THE IDEA TO DESIGN A PORTABLE STUDIO, SO IN THIS SECTION, I STUDIED AND MAPPED OUT THE POSSIBLE PATHWAYS AND LOCATIONS THE STUDIO COULD TRAVEL TO AND BE SITUATED AT. I ALSO INCLUDED A STUDY OF THE BACKGROUND AND DAILY LIVES OF THE LOCALS TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE PEOPLE MY CLIENT WOULD BE INTERACTING WITH ON SITE.
SEA VILLAGE STILT HOUSES
The average distance between two stilt houses at the sea village mapped out in the path of the site plan is 6 metres Hence, the mobile studio has to have a width below 6m to be able to navigate through the stilt houses at the sea village.

CONCEPT: TO CREATE A HOUSE THAT IS ABLE TO EXHIBIT THE CLIENT’S ARTWORKS AND TO CREATE A SPACE THAT INVITES PEOPLE INTO THE CLIENT’S HOUSE/GALLERY. A MOBILE STUDIO IS ALSO DESIGNED TO HELP THE CLIENT TRAVEL AROUND OMADAL ISLAND TO STUDY THE LIVES OF THE LOCALS TO AID HIM IN HIS PROCESS OF ART MAKING

THIS MOCKUP MODEL PLAYS WITH DIFFERENT LEVELLINGS OF THE HOUSE, WHEREBY CERTAIN PARTS OF THE HOUSE ARE AT WATER LEVEL AND CONNECTED TO ONE ANOTHER WITH A BRIDGE.

SECTION Y Y SHOWS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE MAIN HOUSE FIXED ON STILTS AND THE DETACHABLE MOBILE STUDIO FLOATING ON WATER. THE MAIN HOUSE AND STUDIO ARE CONNECTED WITH AN INTERMEDIARY SPACE THAT IS EQUIPPED WITH A RAMP THE ELEVATES ACCORDING TO THE SEA WATER LEVEL.



SECTION X-X SHOWS THE LEVELLINGS OF DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE HOUSE AND HOW THE LIVING/SLEEPING AREA IS CONNECTED TO THE REST OF THE HOUSE WITH THE ROTATING BRIDGE. BOATS PASSING BY THE HOUSE VIEWING EXHIBITED ARTWORKS CAN ALSO BE SEEN FROM THIS SECTION.

project 04 buluhouse (competition work)
Many Orang Asli, Malaysia's indigenous peoples who live in the forest, have been evacuated to make room for development, and they continue to fight for land rights in a long and continual conflict. They are relocated in rural and semi rural areas, or on the outskirts of bigger cities, where they are pushed to assimilate into mainstream culture, frequently unprepared for the challenges that this entails. Many of the Orang Asli is currently being relocated from traditional wooden houses to government supplied concrete block structures. Bamboo has become well known as a sustainable building material for a variety of reasons, including the fact that it can be easily planted and harvested in a relatively short period of time and that it can be reused. Bamboo is a lightweight and easy to bend construction material. These characteristics are ideal for organically formed structure construction.

The looking into the potentials of bamboo helps inform the design ideation by highlighting where the bamboo comes from through a sustainable harvesting progress which ensures the construction material for the expansive Orang Asli bamboo housing. Bamboo is a commercially significant plant of the Poaceae family. Malaysia has a wide range of bamboo species. Given Malaysia's enormous ethnic and genetic variety of bamboos, it is quite likely that many key ethnobotanical uses of bamboos remain unexplored

Concept: A core of a living + sleeping area and kitchen is built with a wide verandah space as the base of the house. Over time, the house can be expanded to accommodate more users by inserting wall panels around the existing verandah space for easy expansion. The concept of the incremental housing is flexible and adapts to the inhabitants changing circumstances and needs
