BACKGROUND INFORMATION Our project this time is a residential renovation project. We took the epidemic as an opportunity to explore the changing landscape of residential space in this area in the future post-epidemic era.The original site of the base is a typical handshake building in Guangdong, which lies close to the streets and is featured with short building spacing. Stores and shops are settled at the

ground floor, above which the residences were located. We also designed the base according to its current condition.

In today's COVID-19 era, we are strictly checked when entering or leaving our communities,

avoid long-distance travel as much as possible, and prefer to choose familiar Spaces within walking distance to meet our needs. Based on this consideration, we extracted the diverse functions offered in the city and placed them between the buildings, and there would be some kind of connection in the space, hoping that they would provide the residents with new social ways to choose between them.

DIVERSE NEEDS The population of the area is a mix of Portuguese, Chinese, Filipinos, tourists and so on. The complexity of the population brings with it the

diversity of needs. Based on the survey, we listed the different needs of different populations. For example, in addition to their daily habits and

Beyond the load-bearing properties in architecture, what distinguishes it from a mere building is the ‘non-necessity’ of elevated experience. The capacity for space to operate a ‘transcended’, more specifically, the higher form of presence through the stage for daily life. As Steven Holl points out “Phenomenology concerns the study of essences; architecture has the potential to put essences back into existence. By weaving form, space, and light, architecture can elevate the experience of daily life through the various phenomena that emerge from specific sites, programs and architectures. One one level, an idea-force drives architecture; on another; structure, material space, color light and shadow intertwine in the fabrication of architecture.” The movement of experiencing the space is the new norm defined architecture.

Upon that premise, we chose the Seven Sister Pottery Factory situated in UK, 1887, as my vessel to give one possible answer to that. The rationale behind this is that the architecture itself has a interesting nesting structure, where the larger ‘bottle’ is covering the smaller one. Under this peculiar structure, it allows a intriguing circulation for people to enter it. alleviates the dullness of other circulations.

In Japanese culture, the concept of Ma connotes the objective and subjective aspects of the world, that linking the human body to the concrete and the abstract with the world. In which, the spatial quality in Ma denotes the idea of “among”, that implies the space when two persons stand against each other.

In transforming the spirit of Ma, we chose the Movie Mulholland Drive in research of the spatial quality within. Following the non-linear narrative of the film, the “nesting” structure from the narrative and the mirroring quality from the character relation.

Inspired by the whole narrative structure of the film, we abstracted the spatial composition and form from each components.Each space rules establishing the connection between people and space, or the Ma, in order re-define the space. From the strategy of spatial organization inside the vessel, the corresponding process of self-relazation is deduced.

Inside the vessel, the movie’s non-linear structure is not only reflected on the spatial quality, but also the internal pathway people are following. The space is divided into nine parts using the name from either the songs or the lines in the movie. Rather than defining the space as various programs that correspond to our society’s standard, it is better to keep a sense of mysterious quality of the space, that it allows us to immerse ourselves to the space where different beholder can create a vast experience.

Each space set a routine of one who start from abandoning the consistent reality to reaching the higher level of “Unbewusstes”, a sense of subconsciousness, to eventually finding the “truth”, or the essence of one.

Design Concept Considering the community of Flatbush as a whole as well as paying respect to all cultures diversifying Flatbush, we aim to design a small residential community that stands out amongst the city chaos. Inspired by the importance to feel both united and celebrated we have designed our intentional urban cohousing building to provide, comfortable personal space, exciting communal areas, a sustainable way of living, and an overall engaging experience.

We encourage interaction in this space and arrange various ways to create possibilities for communication. Starting from the gate, I gradually break the distance between strangers through the planting garden, the bar area, the wooden steps, and finally the joint painting area, hoping that people will gradually turn from strangers to friends after the whole experience.

I expected the whole experience to become more interesting by the high and low drops, like the raised barbecue area and the wooden pallet stairs.

/ THE COFFEE LAB , 2019 Projects during internship, Participated in the project discussion and part modeling

The concept of "laboratory" derives from the brand positioning: interpreting coffee from a professional perspective and extracting coffee in the spirit of scientists. Therefore, we aim at establishing a "laboratory" to convey the idea of the brand name more directly. At the visual level, we regard our products as the first level and the surrounding environment the second, by using the restrained colors, black, white, and grey as dominate hue, and thus strengthening the professional, rational and scientific image of the lab, and bringing positive psychological hints to customers: this lab is the place to produce high-quality products and to create possibilities.

/ THE QING HE HONG Store , 2019 Participated in modeling with Sketch up and Rhino ,Drawing floor plan with autoCAD,Rendering with Enscape This is a milk tea store named QING HE HONG, and the "QING" and "HONG" in the name of the store mean green and red. The challenge of this design was how to use the red color together with its complementary green color without making it look visually fatiguing. At the same time, it makes the whole space a more interesting experience and attracts young people.
