As a first-generation immigrant and a world traveler, with years of work experience in an international company, I have a deep appreciation for different cultures and perspectives. My sensitivity and empathy towards others makes me highly attuned to user needs, which I incorporate into my human-centric designs. I strive to create functional and aesthetically pleasing designs that provide exceptional user experiences by understanding the problems and realities of the people I’m designing for. I believe good design should be both functional and creatively inspired by the client’s cultural background, local context and natural environment.
When I’m not working on design problems, I’m an observer of beautiful nature and manmade structures through hiking and traveling, as well as an avid maker of paintings, potteries and beautiful and delectable cakes and pastries.

          DESIGN DESCRIPTION
The Facets is a student housing development situated in Berkeley’s downtown area for UC Berkeley undergraduate students. The building’s first level boasts a blend of commercial and residential spaces, including art studios and community conference rooms open to both students and the local community. The project scope includes schematic block planning for the ground floor, as well as designing the entrance lobby for students.
The design concept for this project centers around creating an energetic and vibrant village that encourages student connections with each other, the community, and the natural outdoor environment.

A Parkside ground floor renovation for an active elderly couple who loves surfing and cycling in the tuscany wine region of Italy. A flexible studio space is provided for the wife to teach private cello lessons and for the husband for his painting hobby. The space planning gives special consideration to the circulation for student access to the studio without intruding into the private space. Custom built-in with personalized design elements maximizes the space usage. Aging-in-place is also a factor that influences various design features.

          DESIGN DESCRIPTION
The project is a small getaway retreat guest house located on a property perching on the hill side of the Greek island Mykonos. The design adopts local traditional cycladic architecture style of white cubic houses, combined with contemporary design vocabulary such as asymmetric window openings and open interior space. The sweeping view of the picturesque village center and the Aegean Sea is emphasized by the expansive full wall window on the west side of the house and the glass wall of the loft. The house structure is limited to a footprint of roughly 275 sqft and 15 ft in height to avoid blocking the view of the main house. Outdoor shower, lounge and dining area adds living space to the limited interior space and works perfectly for the relaxing island lifestyle.

          DESIGN DESCRIPTION

This project is developed as a Revit class assignment for a bakery/cafe in San Francisco located at the ground floor of a multi-use building. The overall design is sleek and minimal, yet cozy seating areas are provided for intimate conversations. Large fold-up window invites the outside in. Shelving behind the counter takes inspiration from the name of the cafe - Neverfull - as the water surface line of a half full cup transposed onto the round shape of cup openings.
