This project is an 2019 ULI Competition project.

Our team members are from different disciplines such as MBA, MSUD, MLA, MSUP. I took on the role of landscape designer in this project, mainly focused on continuous open space linkages strategy, central plaza design, master plan and section.

On the one hand, in order to solve the flooding issue of the site, we utilized existing undergound parking to create a three-layer system, which is flooding layer, parking layer and ground layer. We caculated flooding elevation and first layer height, making sure that it will be 5 feet higher than the flooding line.

On the other hand, we chose the concept - assembly, which means pieces together the Cincinnati riverfront with a human-scale urban fabric to restore the historic systems of public exchange that made the city a mercantile powerhouse. The resulting intimate spaces better facilitate the trading of goods, ideas and experiences. By assembling a critical mass of local businesses and their patrons across a variety of scales, the face-to-face interaction and social networks that fostered Cincinnati’s rich trading history are restored as the key to its future success.

ACTIVITY SAMPLE From our site analysis, we found that there was no convenient way to link downtown and river, since the elevation changes made it difficult to get to the park.

We want to create a continuous open space linking decking, e-sport square, food hall, music amphitheater and waterfront park. In this continuous open space, we add some activities that can attract people.

This project is part of a two-year research leaded

by Dean Almy in Texas Urban Futures Lab for City of Austin. Former students finished large scale mapping and planning last year, and we continue to seperate into five teams to design five towns in detail.

Our site is located near the Hornsby Bend Bird Observatory named River Vally. I mainly focused on Date: landscape analyze, section, town center and wetland 09/2018-12/2018 design, while Jon designed riverside neighborhood, land use and density caculation.

03 | REDEVELOPMENT IN POST-INDUSTRIAL SITE - through agritourism Studio Project, individual

This project is a reflection on the way out of China's rural post-industrial period. The mining industry in the taihu lake developed rapidly in the first half of the 20th century, and a large number of farmland was occupied. However, in the 21st century, mines can no longer generate value so that many mines are abandoned.

The site is located on the island of Xishan, Date: northeast of taihu lake, and there are two large 01/2017-03/2017 abandoned mines in the site. Because the connection between Xishan island and Shanghai will provide a large number of tourists through the selection of the jiangnan water. In addition to the design of wharfs close to the part of the tour line from Shanghai, we cut this part into floating island which provides leisure space and purified water quality. We plan to Advisor: start with different textures of the site, selecting the Hongfei Ji characteristic landscape to make out the tour line.

Combining different slopes and different view points with native plants, we can develope the combination of agritourism and common farming, which is a sample of how tourism motivates agriculture. At last, providing examples for mines in the surrounding area is of great value.

Plant's Schedule The site can be divided into three parts—— wetland, farmland and woodland. Reed, Bamboo Reed, Acorus Calamus and Metasequoia are suitable for wetland. Citrus, Waxberry, Paddy Rice and Cotton are suitable for farmland.

04 | TRACING POETICALLY comprehensive park design, Wuhan, China Studio Project, individual

This project will first develop a site-based investigation which will be the fundamental resources for the site analysis. Then these investigation will be the trigger point to gather, contrast, reveal the landscape in the site.

The site used to be an abandon fishpond combined with field in use, but the residence and school besides need more open space for people’s daily Date: life. As a result, this area should be transformed into 01/2017-03/2017 a comprehensive park. Belonging to the Donghu tourist attraction, the site need to be educational as well as functional.

To solve the gap between tedious farmland and educational comprehensive park, I try to figure out the unique characteristic of the site which may inject vitality--- poem. Chinese traditional poem emphasize Advisor: that “ having poetry in painting and painting in Hongfei Ji poetry”, so an artistic conception will be offered to tourists when they see the landscape that can remind them of poetry, which educates people in return.

05 | Memorial Garden& Blind Garden residential landscape design, Gainesville,Florida Studio Project, individual

This project includes two design plans of two sites that share something in common.

The first site, located in front of the Library East of University of Florida, serves as a pulic space for students to rest. However, some parts of it have Date: been bare for a long time, espacially the central 09/2017-11/2017 part of it. So I begin to analysis roads and buildings around it to figure out how can plants and hardscape serve people best.

As for the second site, it is a residential garden, Advisor: and we are encouraged to create our own theme that Gail Hansen is strong enough to hold this design. I did the design for blind person, since they also have rights to feel beauties of this world with barely access to them.

Instead of stressing too much on the color of plants, I choose to add varities of materials which help the blind to feel this world through smell, sound and touch.

These two residential designs are based on real sites, and I improved them by thinking of the real need of users, so that plants can have service function.
