Introduction to The Bahrain Turf Club

The Bahrain Turf Club (BTC) is dedicated to the development and promotion of horseracing in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Its mission is to attract leading horses, jockeys, and trainers from around the world to compete within one of the sport’s most dynamic and rapidly emerging jurisdictions.

The Bahrain Turf Club also serves as a concierge for both horsemen and owners, offering first-class administrative support to ensure seamless travel and logistics

The BTC reflects the evolving vision of His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Rashid Equestrian & Horseracing Club (REHC). Under His Highness’s leadership, Bahrain has made significant progress in establishing itself as a respected international racing jurisdiction.

This advancement was formally recognised with Bahrain’s elevation to Part II status in the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities’ (IFHA) Blue Book.

The Club’s flagship race, the Bahrain International Trophy (Gr.2), has become a key fixture on the global calendar, attracting top-tier competition from around the world.

Domestically, the calendar continues to grow in strength and stature, with the King’s Cup Festival emerging as Bahrain’s most competitive weekend of racing. The meeting features the culmination of the Bahrain Turf Series and is increasingly recognised as a key date in the regional racing calendar.

HIS HIGHNESS

SHAIKH ISA BIN SALMAN

BIN HAMAD AL KHALIFA Chairman of the Rashid Equestrian & Horseracing Club

Letter from the Chairman

The Kingdom of Bahrain’s vision for horseracing is rooted in excellence, global connection, and long-term growth. Through strategic investment, international collaboration, and a commitment to the highest standards, we are shaping a racing product that reflects both our ambition and our values.

The 2025/26 season presents a strong invitation to owners and trainers seeking meaningful, competitive opportunities. Our program has been carefully developed to support international participation, with the Bahrain Turf Series offering consistent racing at a high level. Its impact is most clearly demonstrated during the King’s Cup Festival, now the most competitive weekend of racing in Bahrain and increasingly recognised as a key fixture within the regional calendar.

The strength of last season’s competition was reflected in the results. Our six internationally recognised races were won by five different horses, underscoring a depth of quality and the strength of the challenge on offer. This level of balance and competitiveness is central to the continued development of our racing program.

We look forward to welcoming new and returning participants to Bahrain. Our focus remains on delivering a world-class experience both on and off the track and on continuing to build a racing jurisdiction defined by excellence, integrity, and opportunity.

OUTER TRACK

Track map / starting gate positions

All racing in Bahrain is conducted on turf and there are two tracks in use at the REHC Racecourse – Outer and Inner.

INNER TRACK

The Outer Track is 2300m round with a straight 6 furlong (1200m) chute. There is also an extended chute from the 1600m start. The Outer Track has a long sweeping bend before turning into the long 600m run to the winning post. It is a very fair track where no particular type of running style is favoured.

The Inner Track has recently been renovated and was used for the first time in many years during the 2020/21 season. A slightly shorter round course, 2100m with again a 1200m straight chute, there are extended chutes for the 1600m and 2000m starts.

Both tracks generally ride good to firm and any rain does not tend to have an impact on the going unless it is unlucky enough to fall on race day. There is a base Bermuda grass on both tracks which are then overseeded with Rye grass prior to the start of the season.

The recent introduction of the Inner Track allows a switch between the tracks during the season and therefore reduces wear and tear to the turf, providing optimum ground conditions at all times.

The track is managed and maintained by Clerk of the Course, Andy Waitt, for any further information regarding ground conditions, raceday procedures and training please contact: andrew@rehc.gov.bh

International racing overview

Bahrain’s horseracing program continues to evolve, with the Bahrain Turf Series now forming the central platform for international competition throughout the season. The series combines valuable handicaps with Bahrain’s premier international races, offering a diverse and high-quality calendar for horses rated 85 and above.

The 2025/26 season demonstrated the strength and balance of the competition with all turf series races producing different winners. When including premier races, the overall results showed a 9:9 split between Bahraini-trained and internationallytrained winners — a clear reflection of the depth of quality and fairness that defines racing in Bahrain.

The Turf Series now offers $1,000,000 in prize money across its ten handicaps, with a further $80,000 in bonuses.

HRH The Crown Prince’s Cup, HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup, The Al Methaq Mile & HM The King’s Cup, along with further valuable races are all open to international competition.

For all 12 Bahrain Turf Series races, priority for inclusion will be given to visiting horses from Europe with two spaces in each race reserved for horses from the GCC.

Nomination procedure

To nominate for stabling, please email Max Pimlott, max @irbracing.com by 6th November 2025.

Prior to nomination, please ensure all import requirements are met and horse vaccinations are up to date. For more information regarding this, please refer to page 40 on Shipping.

Entries for races will be by the Monday of the week of the race, 10am (Bahrain).

Declarations for races will be by the Tuesday of the week of the race, 10am (Bahrain). Declarations to include jockeys and any official request for the stewards.

Prize money

The race series will have a total of $1,000,000 USD prize money fund + $80,000 USD in bonuses.

$80,000 is allocated to 10 series races with the purse distributed as follows:

$48,000 to the Winning Horse

$16,000 to the Second.

$8,000 to the Third.

$4,800 to the Fourth.

$3,200 to the Fifth.

$100,000 is allocated to the final two series races with the purse distributed as follows:

$60,000 to the Winning Horse

$20,000 to the Second.

The turf series will also have a bonus point system attached depending on where horses finish. Points will be awarded accordingly:

1st - 15pts 2nd - 10pts 3rd - 7pts 4th - 5pts 5th - 3pts Completed finish - 1pt

$40,000 BONUS FOR EACH SERIES WINNER

The points will be added together at the end of the series. The owner of the horse with the most points in each division gets $25,000 and the trainer $15,000

This will mean an extra $80,000 in total prize money. Should there be a tie for 1st place, the horse with the most wins takes the bonus prize. Should the results still be tied, the prize will be shared.
