Federation Honors Volunteers, Installs New Board at Annual Meeting by CAROL KATZMAN, Editor — ~

Volunteers recognized included: Yale Richards as Humanitarian of the Year; Kimberly Robinson and David Goldberg, Young Leaders, and Rachel Javiteh and Steve Sternberg, Teen Leaders. Volunteers of the Year included: Millie Altaian, Jean Duitch, Judy Josephson, Patricia Newman, Zoe Riekes, Aveva Shukert and Stan Widman. Temple Israel won this year's Community Service Award for its program: "Jews, Christians and Muslims in Trialogue." "In just a month, this community has raised more than $875,000 for the Israel Terror Relief Campaign,"noted Tom Fellman, co-chairman along with Shirley Goldstein. "But I'm especially pleased about the future of the leadership here-the store is in good hands!" Forrest Krutter noted the accomplishments of his term as President, including the expansion of the campus and the bond forged between the Federation and the synagogues. (More photos on page 10) More than 150 people celebrated the 99th annual meeting of the Jewish Federation of Omaha Monday night as new officers and board members were installed and volunteers recognized for their contributions to this community. "The life of every Jew who has ever lived in Omaha has been enriched by this community,"said Steve Pitlor, newly installed President of the Jewish Federation. "My goal is to keep Omaha's special position on that map." Other Federation officers include: Vice-presidents Zoe Riekes and Robert Lepp, Secretary/Treasurer Steve Nogg, and Immediate Past-president Forrest Krutter, who also presented the campaign awards and reported on his term as president. "Remembering Our Rabbis" is Newest NJHS Exhibit by RENEE CORCORAN, Executive Director Nebraska Jewish Historical Society —-———

The Nebraska Jewish Historical Society newest exhibit-"Remembering Our Rabbis"~opens on Sunday, J u n e 23, 2 p.m. in the Gallery of the Jewish Community Center. Funding for the exhibit was made possible by a grant from the Gerald and Pearl Osoff Endowment Fund. Other donors include the Belgrade Family and Pearl Richman , Giventer, in memory of Ned .' of Omaha. He currently is working on the Johnny Carson Gallery. The event will coincide with the 20th anniversary of the NJHS, the culmination of the dream~of Mary Fellman and Oliver Pollak. Fellman said she believes the creation of the Historical Society has been the greatest addition to the story of the Jews of Nebraska. She added that "the continued growth and expansion speaks well for the strength of this community and the joy it brings to its thous a n c i s of Jews in all our synagogues and temples.

"May we continue to grow to tell the story of our people, with exhibits and publications the history of this community." Oliver Pollak, NJHS co-founder, stated that "this is the most exciting recognition of life, milestones and accomplishment." Louise Abrahamson, President of NJHS, invites the entire community to the celebration, which also includes honoring Mary Fellman on her 85th birthday, noting "I'm proud and pleased to have had the opportunity to be a part of building the future this organization. These past 20 years of my involvement have fulfilled dreams I have had of preserving Nebraska's Jewish heritage. I am blessed. "My zest for life and living have taught me that we must keep our spirits high through the good and bad times," she added. "We will continue the mission of the Historical Society and we need the help of the community to continue its success."
