Lerner is the sister of Hermene Zweiback, who was an active member of Temple Israel before her death in 1999. Jeff Schweid, who heard Yachad when they performed at Synagogue 2000's Retreat in November, said the band played "exciting Jewish music with a lot of energy. There's a very Israeli feel to their music," he added. Beth Brodkey, who also enjoyed Yachad's style of music at the retreat, described the band as "fantastic. They were amazing and added so much to the retreat." Synagogue 2000 sponsored the Retreat in Nebraska City last November. Mike Walts, Synagogue 2000 chairman, as well as President of Temple's Board of Trustees, will give a D'var Torah at the Feb. 1 Shabbat service, reflecting on Synagogue 2000's impact on the congregation over the past six years. Longtime community volunteers Jerry and Cookie Hoberman were among six Omaha leaders honored with the Living the Dream Award Monday night during the annual Martin Luther King, Jr., commemoration, sponsored by the City of Omaha. The Hobermans, who "adopted" Omaha Public School's Belvedere Academy in North Omaha, were cited for their devotion to improving the educational opportunities of children and eliminating inequtities (Continued on page 12)
