Thoughtful tax and financial planning today can yield a rich harvest of benefits. But the world of financial planning is as complex as it is rewarding. What follows are some suggestions to discuss with your accountant, your attorney and your financial planning adviser. INCOME TAX PLANNING Income taxes are like the weather-everyone talks about it but very few people do anything. Yet Congress has provided many taxpayers with convenient techniques for minimizing income tax liability. Savings can be obtained in a variety of ways. Consider some of these areas: • Divert your income to a low tax bracket relative. One way to minimize income taxes is by diverting some of your income to a family member who is in a low income tax bracket. If you transfer ownership of some of your taxable securities to your children, the income will be taxed at their lower tax bracket, if they are 14 years old or older. * Defer part of your income to minimize taxes.
