Hose Blum kinJewishHome again given 'superior rating' by. Lenora Lancaster, JSS Administrative Assistant

The. residents, board of directors and staff of the Rose Blumkin Jewish Home are pleased to announce that the Home received a "deficiency free report" from its annual unannounced licensure survey by the State Health Department. The survey was conducted over five working days last week. This is the second year in a row that the Home has received this rating. Candice Stevens and Beverly Harper, examiners, stated the Home was an excellent facility and noticed the warm and caring interactions between residents and staff. They added that they were very impressed with the assessments done by the nursing staff and the personal histories maintained by the social services department. These two pieces of information give the professionals a benchmark by which to judge general health changes. Jarold Kohll, President of Jewish Senior Services, remarked, "With nursing homes receiving so much bad press it is rewarding that our Home be recognized as being a leader in the industry. Our community demands the highest quality of care and. therefore, it is our obligation to provide it." "These high ratings are obtained by the staff working diligently throughout the entire year," added Barbara Gottlieb, Executive Director. "1 am delighted that the State recognizes all of the hard -work"

The third annual Cantors Three Concert will combine classic and contemporary Jewish music with a sprinkling of Jewish humor on Sunday, May 23, 7 pan., at Beth El Synagogue. The program will feature solos and duets by Beth El's Cantor Emil Berkovits and Temple Israel's Cantor Jennifer Blum, plus songs and stories by Beth Israel Synagogue's Cantor Leo Fettman. Also performing will be a choir comprised of members from three area congregations. .•'••... Flutist Tuffy Epstein and pianist Julie Sandene will provide instrumental accompaniment. The three principals expressed their excitement about the program. "Each cantor has favorite compositions and an individual style. Workingtogether in developing a concert makes it so much more interesting," said Berkovits. He favors traditional pieces that are "moving with a lot of meaning." Fettman, who also "likes the old favorites;" promised to interject hrfmor into the program by interweaving songs with comical stories. He especially looks forward to presenting "Chazzan of Shabbos." : Blum particularly enjoys Israeli art music, sung in Yiddish and Hebrew. This is "a rare chance for the community to hear the voices of its cantors in celebration of Jewish music," she said, and "a wonderful ppportunity for me to sing with my colleagues and friends." < (Continued on page 8)
