(compiled from information froni the Nebraska Jewish Historical Society) The campaign to raise funds for improvements to the Jewish Community Center is another link in a long chain of community members coming together to enhance the life of Omaha Jews. Community leaders Patty and Steve Nogg, and Marcia and Steve Pitlor have come to the forefront to lead the way so that our members, their children and their grandchildren will have a "Jewish neighborhood" well into the 21st Century. • Howard Kooper, Federation President, who, along with past Federation President Tom Felhnan, has spearheaded the major gifts campaign said, "We are creating a campus to ensure that Jewish continuity in Omaha survived just as our grandparents and great-grandparents did when they built the first Omaha JCC." In 1925, a dream was realized when the first Jewish Community Center of Omaha opened on 20th and Dodge St. Then, as now, Omaha Jews visualized a place where young and old would come together to learn and play in a Jewish environment.
