A jazz concert will be presented in the theatre at the Jewish Community Center on Sunday, August 31 at 7 p.m., in memory of the late Mike Milder It. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through member services at the JCC by calling 334-6426. The late Mike Milder II was a leader in the Omaha community. In business, | he served as Executive Viceit president of Milder Oil Company Inc., a position that put him in charge of public relations, sales management, and supervision of credit for the familyowned fuel-oil distribution busiMike Milder K ness founded by his grandfather. Known as "Young Mike," he exhibited passion for his interests and compassion for others at every turn. A 1978 graduate of Westside High School who studied political science ;&t .the.-Uriiversity of Northern- Colorado, he became inVolvM: with the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1980. •;. Milder held many offices in the Millard Jaycee chapter, including Director; Vice-president, individual development; Vice-president, membership; and Vice-president, community development.; He was President at the time of his death from a heart attack.:

'Journey to Celebration' Mission
YJO'Hatikvah' Mission
"Journey to Celebration," a UJA/Federation community mission to Israel and Poland, will be March 18-31, 1998, and celebrates Israel's 50th anniversary. Chairpersons are Julee and.Rick Katzman and Sandy and Stuart Kutler.
Kathy and John McGauvran, Jeff Kirshenbaum and Lisa Platt are the chairpersons for Young Jewish Omaha's first mission to Israel. The "Hatikvah" (hope) mission is an 11-day trip to Israel and will be Feb. 5-15, 1998.
Stuart and Sandy Julee and Rick Kutlor Katzman "Viewing the remains of the Holocaust in Poland will highlight the miracle of Israel's existence," said Rick Katzman. "Just a few years after the Holocaust, Israel was declared the Jewish homeland, and it's lasted 50 years! That is the miracle," he added. Julee Katzman agreed, adding, "The focus of the mission is' thVmiracle'of the State of Israel. It came out of utter destruction and near annihilation of our people." Sandy and Stuart Kutler are looking forward to this very special mission. Sandy Kutler said, "We went on a family trip to Israel with our daughters in 1995 and we felt an immediate connection to the land and the people." Stuart Kutler said, "Everyone should experience Israel at least once in their lives, and Israel's 50th Anniversary is the perfect time!" (Continued on page 7)

Kathy McGauvran said, "John and I are very excited to help chair this mission. Not only to experience all that Israel offers, but to be in the country during their 50th anniversary celebration will be truly memorable." John added, "Kathy and I come from different religious backgrounds and I feel that the Hatikvah Mission to Israel will give me a greater understanding of the Jewish religion. Experiencing this mission with my wife is very special. We feel fortunate that the Federation is able to provide such a great opportunity to the community." Jewish Educational Services names scholarship recipients by Susan A. Drazen, Director
. Jewish Educational Services is pleased to announce that scholarships from 14 endowment funds have been awarded to 59 Omaha-area college students: The Ruth Sokolof Special Education Fund was created and funded by Phil Sokolof to honor and perpetuate the memory of his late wife, Ruth. Mrs. Sokolof was noted, in Omaha for her work with deaf and retarded children. The fund is designed to ben: efit students majoring in special and general education. Sharon Cipperley, University of Nebraska-Lincoln; Pam Colin, University of Nebraska-Omaha; and Stacie Katelman, University' of Nebraska-Omaha, have been named this year's Ruth Sokolof Scholars. Phillip G. Schrager established the Lois Jeanne Schrager Memorial Fund as a tribute to the memory of his wife, Lois. Mrs. Schrager was a devoted community volunteer.: The 1997-1998 award winners are: Caren Friedman, Washington University; Holly Friedman, University of Nebraska-Omaha; Debra Givner, University of Missouri; and Shana Novak, Syracuse University. A special grant from the Phillip G. and Terri L. Schrager Supporting Foundation will make funds available to Josh Cohen, Washington University; Karen Kazor, Tulane University; and Dusty Nichols, George Washington University. The Livingston Scholarships were created through the generosity of the Trustees of the Milton S. andCorinne N. Livingston Foundation to
