New York, NY,— Information regarding the whereabouts of Holocaust survivors from Eastern Europe is being sought by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) in response to a request by the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Special Investigations (OSI). The search is for survivors who lived in the following areas any time during the years indicated: Poland: Lublin Ghetto, March 1-April 14, 1942; Warsaw Ghetto, April 19,-June 19, 1943; Bialystok Ghetto, August-September, 1943; Trawniki Labor Camp; Sept. 7,1941-July, 1944; Ppniatowa Labor Camp, May-November, 1943, and Jan. 27, 1944-February, 1944; Czestochowa Ghetto, Sept. 19, 1942-Noy. 6, 1942; Warsaw Concentration Camp, September, 1943-May, 1944; Auschwitz, 1944-1945. The 1997 S.E.E.D. program will sponsor its kickoff event Aug. 10, 7:30 p.m., at the Rose Blumkin Jewish Home. This is the first of a week-long series of activities of Jewish learning. The initial program is about Tisha b'Av. A video presentation, produced by the Chofetz Chaim Heritage Foundation, will feature worldrenowned speakers Rabbi Yissachar Frand and Rabbi Paysach Krohn, teaching practical methods to avoid strife, repair damaged relationships and more. A discussion, moderated by Rabbi Yehuda Brecher, leader of the program, will follow.. : The Omaha S.E.E.D. program will continue through Aug. 18. Rabbi Brecher is .the Scholar-in•Residence for the week. His wife, Yocheved; his mother, Devorah, and two Torah scholars will also be faculty resources throughout the week. They will present individual and group learning sessions • for both men and women, > The schedule of dail> programming can be obtained by calling Beth Israel Synagogue office at 556-6288. Individuals may sign up for one-on-one sessions from 9 a.m.-noon and certain evening hours. Lectures and group discussions will be held each evening. Robert M. Mpmbers of the Grants Committee of the Lazier L. Singer Memorial Fund for Youth will meet for the first time on Sept. 10. Grants will be awarded to organizations for programs dealing with problems and issues of alcohol, drug use, sexuality, eating disorders, ihtra-family relations, violence and gangs, suicideand depression, and Jewish identity. Programs that involve collaboration among Federation agencies, synagogues, Jewish youth organizations, and any other Jewish community organizations will be given favorable consideration by the Committee, which will meet once a year. Application requests to apply for grants are due at The Foundation office by Wednesday, Aug. 27. . Mr/Singer's wife, Harriet, established the fund in memory pf her husband, who died in 1996. She explained that he was worried about teenagers. They lack "the-supportive background that earlier generations had," she said. Problems of drugs, street gangs and alcohol that are prevalent today were not issues.that teenagers had to deal with in earlier generation Mrs.^Singer pointed out. Two bombs exploded in Jerusalem's Machane Yehuda market Wednesday, leaving 14 dead and 157 Injured, including the suicide bombers. At press time, names of the dead and injured were not known. Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility.
