The Girls from Ames, a tribute to the extraordinary bonds of women and the power and value of female friendships. “I’ve always written stories about what’s in people’s hearts. That’s what fascinates me and, I think, that’s what touches other people,” said Zaslow. His climb to literary success occurred in a most remarkable way. As a young writer at the Journal in the mid-80’s, Zaslow wrote a front-page feature about a competition to replace Ann Landers, the celebrated advice columnist, at the Chicago Sun-Times.
