Goldberg and Silverman named young leaders by LISA LIEB Federation Communications Director Every year, the Jewish Federation of Omaha honors a young man and a young woman who have demonstrated personal commitment, dedicated involvement and exemplary leadership qualities. On Thursday, Oct. 25, 6:30 p.m., the Bob Goldberg Fellman Bruce Memorial Young Leadership Award will be presented to Bob Goldberg and the Lois Jeanne Schrager Memorial Young Leadership Award will be presented to Mimi Silverman. A committee composed of past honorees selects the winners. The Young Leadership Awards will be presented in conjunction with “A Musical Cabaret” featuring the Crossroads Ensemble at the Jewsh Community Center. The evening’s events are sponsored by the Karen Sokolof Javitch Music Appreciation Fund. Recipient Bob Goldberg views being nominated by both Chabad and the Center for Jewish Education as very humbling, even more so in light of past award winners. “When I look at the people who have won this award, it’s an amazing honor to be included among them,” he said. Goldberg became involved with Chabad several years ago, when he began his quest for Jewish knowledge.
Having recently completed his master’s degree in English, he soon realized that while he had learned about many of the great works of literature, he still lacked an understanding of the fundamental Jewish texts. Chabad’s Rabbi Mendel Katzman helped Goldberg down a path of Jewish knowledge, and a new friend-

Goldberg has assisted Chabad in a variety of projects throughout the years, helping with outreach efforts, offering financial advice, serving on committees, organizing events and cooking meals. “Like all good leaders, Bob can envision what needs to be undertaken to improve the organization with which he becomes involved,” Rabbi Katzman said. “He is a leader with a vision.” Goldberg replied, “The work the Katzmans do for our community is incredible and I can’t tell you how much respect I have for Rabbi, Shani and their family. I’m very proud to call them my friends.” With his love for Jewish learning, it was only natural for Goldberg to become involved with the Center for Jewish Education, where he currently serves as President of its Board of Directors.
