Celebrating 88 Years of Service to Nebraska and Western Iowa

A crane from Hawkins Construction Company has hoisted most of the steel beams needed to complete the construction of Main Street -- the final portion of the Rose Blumkin Jewish Home’s “New Beginnings” remodeling and addition. The tower will contain the new public west entrance to the Home. The Silverman Family Auditorium, a multi-purpose space, is located to the left in this photo (behind the crane). The new synagogue will be located to the right of the entrance. Main Street is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

by SHERRIE SAAG Center for Jewish Education Omaha’s own favorite son, Dr. Ron Wolfson, returns to town Thursday, Sept. 24, 7 p.m., to talk about his latest book, The Seven Questions You’re Asked in Heaven: Reviewing and Renewing Your Life on Earth. His evening lecture at the Jewish Community Center is free and open to the community. “The timing of the lecture, just prior to Yom Kippur, fits nicely within the Ten Days of Renewal of the High Holy Days. It will be good preparation for this time of reflection and contemplation,” said Gary Katz, Kripke Library A d m i n i s t r a t o r. “We are so pleased to have Dr. Ron Wolfson the opportunity to welcome him back to Omaha and fortunate he will share the evening with us.” In his latest inspiring and thought provoking book, this beloved educator provides an advance copy of his new book. According to Wolfson, answers to these questions will help readers shape a life of purpose and meaning. “If you know the questions and apply them to the way you live your life today, then when the time comes, your soul will be ready to take that stairway to heaven, prepared to answer the seven questions with a resounding ‘Yes!’ and take your rightful place among the angels,” says Wolfson. Whether a believer or non-believer, Wolfson’s book explores the values that are at the heart of a life that matters. With his signature style, he will share his wisdom, culled from Jewish tradition, life experiences, and personal anecdotes. “Anyone who has enjoyed listening to Ron speak knows that he offers his inspirational messages with funny, insightful and poignant stories of people both ancient and contemporary,” said Dr. Guy Matalon, executive director of the Center for Jewish Education. Advance praise for The Seven Questions has been effusive. Fr. Steven E. Boes, national executive director of Boys Town wrote, “Wolfson’s latest book poses questions that will provoke you to develop your ‘after-life’ skills. It will lead you into a deeper reflection on your life now from the vantage point of heaven.” And according to Rabbi Naomi Levy, author of To Begin Again, “He offers us timeless wisdom for living a full and meaningful life. Wolfson has blessed us with a map for finding heaven on earth. He is a masterful guide and the journey he offers us is nothing short of transformational.” Continued on page 2
